SUMMARY:
ESAB has determined that a potential condition exists with the referenced power sources which could,
with improper operator set-up, lead to a serious safety issue. Inadequate clearance between certain
primary and secondary components may cause shorting of the primary voltage to the welding output of
the power source. If the work piece is not properly earth grounded as required, a potentially serious
hazard could exist that could lead to personal injury or death or other equipment damage. Immediate
inspection is required:
DISCONNECT primary power at wall switch, or circuit breaker,
before attempting inspection or work inside the power source.
1. Remove the power source top cover and right side panel.
2. Inspect the wiring on the rear of the voltage link board for wire contact with the transformer bus
bar as shown below. See Corrective Action below.
3. Inspect the opposite end of the transformer bus bar for primary wire routing that is in contact
with the bus bar as indicated below. See Corrective Action below.
OPERATIONAL IMPACT:
If this condition exists, it may not be apparent to the weld operator in the everyday operation of the
power source. Only a visual inspection and corrective action can eliminate the potential hazard
before a more serious unsafe condition develops.
All work should be completed by a
qualified electrical technician
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
1. Move wires so they are not in contact with the transformer bus bar and have at least 1”
separation from all un-insulated metal surfaces.
2. Order and install, free of charge
, the “Bus Bar Insulator” kit PN-0558004248.
3. Further Technical assistance and service will be provided by ESAB free of charge through the
