Overview
This document discusses how to bring up the Broadcom BCM95389/
BCM95396 reference board system using WebSmart™ software. It describes
steps required to set up and configure the WebSmart program.
The WebSmart program allows you to manage the Broadcom BCM95389/
BCM95396 reference board and monitor its performance. This program can
be accessed by either of the following:
A direct connection between a management console and the console port
of the Broadcom BCM95389/BCM95396 reference board. The
management console used for the connection can be a VT-100 terminal or
PC-running terminal emulation software. The user has access to the
WebSmart common language infrastructure (CLI).
A network connection from one of the ports of the BCM95389/
BCM95396 reference board to a client Web browser. The user has access
to the WebSmart web-based GUI interface.

Configuring the HyperTerminal Utility
HyperTerminal is a Windows
®
utility program for serial communications.
To configure HyperTerminal, follow these steps:
1. Start the HyperTerminal utility.
2. Select the COM port to communicate with the BCM95389/BCM95396
demo target board.
3. Set the serial port properties:
Bits per second: 19200 bps
Data bits: 8 bits
Parity: none
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: none
The properties window should look like the window below.
4. Click OK.

Page 6 Document 95389_95396-QS100-R
5. From the Properties menu select the Settings tab.
6. Click the ASCII Setup button to display the ASCII Setup window.
7. Click OK.
8. Power up in the BCM95389/BCM95396 reference board. If
communication is successful, the WebSmart CLI prompt appears on the
screen as shown below:

9. The BCM95389/BCM95396 WebSmart CLI prompts can be viewed by
typing h for Help Menu. Typing <enter> afterward is not necessary.
10. The initial network setting can be viewed by typing ng. Typing <enter>
afterward is not necessary. The display appears as shown below:
11. To customize these settings, type ns at the prompt. Typing <enter>
afterward is not necessary. Typing ns prompts asking if DHCP is preferred.
Type y for yes or n for no. If no is chosen, the next message shows the
existing IP address. This address can be modified by backspacing and typing
the new IP address. Type <enter> when finished. The same procedures
apply for changing the netmask and gateway. See the example below:

Setting Up a WebSmart™ Web-Based Connection
Connect both the client station and the BCM95389/BCM95396 reference
board to a common network. The BCM95389/BCM95396 reference board
connects via one of its network ports.
Figure 4: WebSmart Web-Based Connection
Note:
The BCM95389/BCM95396 reference board should have a
jumper connecting pins 2 and 3 on the J3 connector. This jumper should
be installed by default. If not, or if it has been changed, this jumper must
be replaced on pins 2 and 3 for the Web-based WebSmart software to
operate.
1. Power-up the BCM95389/BCM95396 reference board.
2. Open the Web browser software on the client system.

3. Type the IP address corresponding to the BCM95389/BCM95396
reference board. If the address has not been changed either manually (by
issuing the ns command) or by the DHCP, the default address is
192.168.0.234. The browser address box should then be http://
192.168.0.234.
4. A dialog box should appear. Type admin for the username and admin for
the password as shown below.
5. The main menu Web-based WebSmart page should look similar to the
window below.
