TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
Between the hatch and casing is sealing material. Both hatch
and casing have isolation material between metal sheets.
Specification
The equipment is an axial fan with casing designed for use as an
exhaust fan in high temperature emergency conditions. The product
is not allowed to be used in normal ventilation. The fan is driven by an
enclosure electric motor classified to F400(120) in accordance with
EN1201-3. The hatch and fan are integrated to be one certified unit.
Hatch is opened by 2 electrical motors, which are dimensioned to
cover both snow and wind load. The fan itself should be started 30
seconds after the hatch motors have been started.
The door is also equipped with a mechanical cable opening mecha-
nism. The mechanism is intended for situations where it is desired to
open the door without electricity.

TRANSPORT INSPECTION
Check the fan immediately after you receive it and make sure that it
has not been damaged during transport. If you discover any damage,
get in touch with the transportation company without delay.
Check the information on the fan rating plate.
Proper procedures must be followed when transporting the
product.
Faulty conditions in transporting may result in serious damage on
the product.
TRANSPORT SAFETY
The transport material is to be selected according to the
packaging and the weight of the product.
Loading must be carried out as instructed.
INTERMEDIATE STORAGE
If the fan is to be stored before or in between uses, the following
needs to be taken in account:
Original packaging is to be used.
If the storage conditions require it, additional protection may be
added.
The hatch of the product must be closed during the storage.
During long time storage indoor premises must be used.

INSTALLATION
Like smoke hatches, JMHT HATCH can be installed on a roof or a car
park deck in one lift. The product can be mounted directly onto con-
crete or a similar surface, or onto a specially designed base – what is
important is that there is even support across the entire surface. The
fan is fully weather-protected throughout the construction project.
The possibility of condensation must be prevented in smoke extrac-
tion in damp areas by proper installation.
The recommended size for the penetration in the slab is
D + 200mm, and for ease of connection to ducting, the penetration
should preferably be square in shape.
JMHT Hatch allows two alternative connection methods. If the product
is to be duct-mounted, it is delivered with a matching flange at the
bottom. If the fan is meant to draw in air freely from the space below,
the product is delivered with a safety mesh at the bottom. In the latter
case, all that needs to be done to install the unit is to fix it to the roof
structure and connect it to the mains.
The maximum roof slope must be 12°.
Fixing angle irons to the base with at least four 5x40 screws or
with at least four screws to the roof structure:
- to concrete 4-6 psc HILTI HPS-1 6/5x30
- to timber 4-6 pcs wood screws 5x50
- to reinforced concrete 4-6 pcs self-drilling screws 5,5x25

SAFETY REGULATIONS
In case, when the hatch is open and maintenance
work for fan is done, there is a risk of fall through
the fan opening, especially in case, when the fan is
removed from its place. The care shall be taken to prevent fall during
the maintenance work.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
All electrical connections must be wired by authorised personnel only.
The necessary electrical and safety precautions must be taken into
account. The fan is equipped with 2 safety switches, one for the fan
motor and one for the opening motors. Electrical connections shall be
done as shown in picture. The hatch is equipped with switches show-
ing, if the hatch is closed or open.
Motor cable shall be fire proofed (40C / 2 h) and bushing through the
casing shall be sealed (400°C / 2 h).
The fan motor cable must be a fire resistant
cable. The cable glands in the casing must be
sealed with fire-resistive mass.
It is recommended to use the limit switch only
for the closing information of the hatch. The
starting signal of the motor must come from a
separate control. The starting method for the
fan is direct-on-line starting 30s after the start
of the linear motors.
NOTE! Linear motors must not be exposed to
the control voltage!

PREPARATION
Open the hatch and connect the motor rods to fastenings. Connect the
mains to motors to close the hatch.
HUOM! Varmista luukun avaamisen mahdollistaminen myös ns.
tilapäisen virtalähteen käytön jälkeen (esim. irroita karamoottoreiden
akselit testikäytön jälkeen).
NOTE! Make sure that it is also possible to open the hatch after using a
temporary power supply (eg disconnect linear motor shafts after test
run).
SAFETY CHECKING
Rotate the shaft and check that the impeller can move freely. Make
sure that there are no foreign objects in the fan or in the ducting. Also
check that there is no unusual noise in the fan. Check that the installa-
tion work has been carried out in accordance with the relevant regula-
tions. All necessary protective devices must be installed.
Check also, that there is big enough air flow to compensate fan
air flow. Check, that all other regulations related to fire safety are
followed.
The fan may only be commissioned after all proper procedures have
been followed and all necessary inspections have been carried out.
TEST RUN
Briey switch on the power supply to the motor to check whether the
fan impeller rotates in the correct direction. If the impeller is rotating in
the correct direction shown with the arrow, the fan may be switched
on. Check that no abnormal mechanical sound and no surging occurs.
COMMISSIONING
Smoke Master SMHA HATCH - Installation, operation and maintenance
10
FläktGroup DC_10507GB 20210129_R0 All rights reserved.
WARRANTY
A precondition of the warranty is that regular maintenance has been
carried out. Defects under warranty must immediately be notified to
the manufacturer or the importer. The warranty does not cover service
work or indirect damages.
MAINTENANCE
BEFORE MAINTENANCE
Switch off the power supply to the fan and hatch motors at the safety
isolating switches. The hatch is staying open, when the safety switch
is turned off from mains. However, make sure, that hatch cannot be
falling down during the maintenance.
INSPECTION INTERVALS
Inspection intervals can be defined by local authorities. If nothing
else is mentioned, the fan shall be tested according to the intervals in
table, but at least once a year. The annual inspection must be done by
authorized persons only. Also follow the separate JMHT fan mainte-
nance instructions.

MAINTENANCE
REPLACING THE MOTOR AND THE IMPELLER
The fan will have to be disconnected from the unit before the motor
can be replaced.
SMHA-040,050,080,100-066,100-106
1. Check that the fan motor and hatch-motors are disconnected
from mains.
2. Remove outlet guard.
3. Remove impeller from motor shaft by opening locking screw
from shaft end.
4. Remove impeller from the shaft, take care, that the key is not
dropping down.
5. Motor rotor can be lifted up and bearings can be checked.
SMHA-sizes 100-180 and all size 125 versions
1. Remove complete fan and lift it outside the casing for
maintenance.
2. Follow instructions of JMHT for maintenance.
FINAL INSPECTION
Check that:
The impeller is mounted for the correct direction of rotation.
All screws and nuts have been tightened.
No foreign objects have been left in the fan or in the ducting.
The mechanical opening of the hatch works.
The mechanical opening of the hatch is intended for situations where
the door has to be opened without electrical current for one reason or
another.
The door can be opened mechanically by pulling the wires under the
hatch. There are two wires and they are located on both sides of the
linear motors. Pulling on the wire requires some force, so you have to
use an aid, such as an iron pipe (see picture).
After the mechanical opening, reattach the linear motor shafts to the
mounting lugs and make sure that the cover seals are intact.
