Infrared Remote Repeater
Description
The IR-X repeats commands from any wireless remote* to any device that is hidden behind cabinet doors, solid objects, etc. The IR-X receives
IR commands from a wireless remote which repeats the commands through a small infrared LED emitter, housed in a miniature, mouse shaped
injection molded plastic shell. The infrared LED emits visible red light in addition to infrared control signals when activated by an infrared remote.
The infrared emitter is designed to be installed directly on the IR sensor window of the controlled device. Additional emitters can be added (up to
3) using part # IR-X/HOME LED.
Installation
ATTACHING THE EMITTER TO THE IR SENSOR WINDOW
• The emitter has a clear adhesive layer on the bottom at surface of the shell. The rounded side faces the user and emits visible red light when a
command is sent (Fig. 2).
• Simply peel off the adhesive cover and afx the emitter to the center of the IR sensor window on the controlled component’s front panel (Fig. 3).
• In some cases it may be difcult to nd the location of the IR sensor on the component. Consult the owner’s manual of the unit, or the manufac-
turer, for the exact IR sensor window location.
The shell, though dark in appearance, is transparent to infrared light, allowing commands from a handheld remote control to pass through it. This
permits direct control of the equipment from a handheld remote as well as from the transmitter.

MOUNTING THE IR RECEIVER
The IR receiver may be mounted anywhere in the entertainment center where it has a line of site to the user of the infrared remote.
The rounded dome part of the receiver must be facing out towards the user.
The wire leads of the receiver may be bent 90
˚ to facilitate mounting. Care must be taken when bending and should be done
once.
A suitable location to mount the receiver can be at the base of the TV or stereo receiver.
• Place the IR module in a accessible location where you can plug the power supply and IR emitter into it.
COMPLETING INSTALLATION & TESTING
• Plug the IR emitter into the IR module.
Using the switch on the IR module (Fig. 1), select the operating frequency of the IR remote to either 40 kHz or 56 kHz.
Consult with the owner’s
manual or manufacture of the device being controlled to determine the carrier frequency
.
• Plug the A/C adapter into a A/C outlet.
Please note that the 40kHz/56kHz switch must be selected before plugging in the A/C adapter
.
Aim your infrared remote at the IR receiver to control your hidden device. The IR emitter will blink a red light (visual conrmation) with each push
of a button on the IR remote.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The IR-X/HOME works only with an IR remote that use a 40 kHz or 56 kHz carrier frequency. The IR-X/HOME may also work with other remotes
that are +/- 10% of the 40 kHz or 56 kHz carrier frequency, but controls may be intermittent or have a very short distance range.
• Mirrors, uorescent lighting, and sunlight may also interfere with controlling hidden devices. Try placing the IR receiver in a location where uo
-
rescent lighting, sunlight or reection of mirror will be minimized.
• Do not cut or attempt to extend the receiver cable.
