About This Manual
This manual describes basic functions, theory of electrical and mechanical operations, maintenance and repair procedures of the printer. The instructions and procedures included
herein are intended for the experienced repair technicians, and attention should be given to the precautions on the preceding page.

The EPSON Perfection V10/V100 Photo/V200 Photo/V350 Photo are color image
scanners equipped with 180° openable scanner cover. The main features are as follows.

Error type Cause Scanner Action Recovery
Command error Received an undefined command or undefined command
parameter.
No LED indication occurs.
The scanner ignores the incorrect command or
parameter (Current setting maintained).
The scanner returns NACK and waits for the next
command parameter.
The scanner recovers from the error by receiving
a correct command.
Fatal error The main unit is faulty (The lamp is dead. The Carriage does
not return to its home position).
The red LED flashes. Turn the scanner off and then back on.
The cover was opened while scanning is in progress. Close the cover.
The document cover was not removed when scanning strip
films. *1
After removing the cover mat, send the
initialization command (ESC @).
The AFL is jammed with strip films.*2After removing the jammed films manually or by

2.1 Engine Operation Outline
This section explains the functions and operating principles of the Perfection V10/
Perfection V100 Photo/Perfection V200 Photo/Perfection V350 Photo.
2.1.1 Outline
CARRIAGE UNIT OUTLINE
(PERFECTION V10 / V100 PHOTO / V200 PHOTO / V350 PHOTO)
The Carriage Unit consists of the CCD Board, Inverter Board, Lamps (light source)
and Mirror/Lens Mechanism. (Refer to Figure 2-1 and 2-2.)
CCD Board
The Board consists of a CCD (loaded with a six-lines CCD microlens) and its
control and drive circuits.
Inverter Board
Boosts +24VDC and converts DC to AC to generate the voltage for driving the
Lamp (white cool cathode fluorescent lamp).
Lamps
White cool cathode fluorescent lamp (1 piece: for reflective document) is used as a
light source.
Mirror/Lens Mechanism
The beam applied to the scanned document is reflected, passes through the Mirror/
Lens Mechanism in the Carriage Unit for correction of the beam axis, and then
reaches the CCD Sensor. The light components R, G, B are extracted by the Color
CCD Sensor itself.

2.1.2 Outline of Mechanical Operation
CARRIAGE UNIT MECHANISM
(PERFECTION V10 / V100 PHOTO / V200 PHOTO / V350 PHOTO)
The scanning of an image on document is carried out with the combination of the main
scanning direction (one line: CCD Sensor) and sub scanning direction (multiple lines:
Carriage Unit movement).
The line type color CCD Sensor can only scan one line in the main scanning direction
(in parallel with the Carriage Unit) at one time. To scan the second and latter lines in
the sub scanning direction, the Carriage Unit having a built-in CCD Sensor is moved
by CR drive. The scanned data are sent to the Control Board. The scanning of Line n
data and the processing of Line n-1 image data are performed consecutively at the same
time.

The Carriage Unit slides in the sub scanning direction by the CR Timing Belt Motor,
which is powered by the transmitted force from the CR Motor as shown below. The CR
Motor is a stepping motor and is driven under open loop control. The starting location
for scanning an image is determined by the CR HP Sensor which is located on the
Control Board.
