Preface
The operating instructions have to be handed over to those persons who are
responsible for the operation and the supervision of the machine.
This operating manual includes the information necessary for the operator for instal-
lation, operation and maintenance.
We have refrained from describing tasks requiring no special knowledge.
Instructions for repairs exceeding the normal maintenance tasks are not provided.
Important information
Procedures upon receipt
Inspect the equipment visually in accordance with the delivery contract as soon
as it has been received.
•Storage
Equipment that is not installed immediately must be stored protected from
weather and other influences.
Installation
The assembly and installation of the machine and machine equipment must
only be carried out by observing all installation instructions provided.
Design variants
If different designs are described in the documentation provided, only the infor-
mation concerning the version supplied will apply. We reserve the right to make
modifications due to technical progress up to the time of delivery.
Duty of instruction
Only trained specialists are permitted to commission the system or carry out
maintenance work on it. Prior to initial start-up, the operating personnel are
required to become familiar with the documentation provided.

1 Safety
The machine was designed and manufactured in compliance with recognised safety
regulations. In spite of this, inappropriate use can put the user at risk of injury. For
this reason, safety has been given the highest priority.
1.1 Explanation of safety instructions
The corresponding safety instructions are indicated as follows:
1.2 Safety of personnel
Protective covers, hoods and gates must be installed and closed at all times.
Open or missing safety covers are danger spots for crush and cut injuries.
Always keep safety devices in good working condition. Never bypass or disable
any safety devices.
The system must be brought to a standstill before any maintenance work may
be carried out on the machine!
Make sure that all energy sources such as:
–Electricity
–Air
are switched off and disconnected. The lockable safety switch, which interrupts
the power at all poles, must be set to “0” and locked.
Danger!
Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result
in death or grave injury.
Caution!
Indicates a potentially dangerous situation which, if not avoided, can result in prop-
erty damage and production failures.
Explosion hazard!
Indicates a potentially explosive situation which, if not avoided, can result in seri-
ous or fatal injuries and extensive property damage.
Note:
Indicates important information or instructions which, if not observed, can impair
the correct function of the machine and make it impossible to attain performance
parameters.

1.3 Designated use
The machine is designed solely for sieving animal feed and milling industry prod-
ucts. Any other use shall be considered noncompliant use.
1.3.1 ATEX authorisation
In areas where there is a risk of explosion, only machines and devices that are
approved for this purpose may be used (see identification plate).
If this symbol appears on the identification plate, the machine may be used in an Ex
zone.
This symbol is followed by the ATEX ID, which indicates the Ex zone in which the
machine may be used and the internal zone to which it may be connected.
Before machines with internal Ex zone can be connected to an installation, it must
be ensured on the installation side that no effective sources of ignition, metal parts
or stones can enter the machine from the installation.
Example:
2/3D means that the machine may be connected on the process side to an
Ex zone 21 and installed (used) in an Ex zone 22.

1.4 Connecting to the electrical mains
Observe the regulations of the local safety authorities.
The power supply must be fuse-protected in accordance with locally applicable
codes and regulations.
Check that the operating voltage and frequency correspond to the specifications
provided on the identification plate and in the control cabinet.
The electrical wiring to the control system must be connected according to the
wiring diagram to ensure that the phase conductors are really switched in the
case of single-phase power supplies.
1.5 Safety concept
The machine is normally part of an installation, and therefore has to be integrated
into the safety concept of the installation.
1.6 Spare and wear parts
Only original spare and wear parts may be used.
If this is not complied with, safe operation is no longer guaranteed, particularly if the
machine is used in an Ex zone.

2.2 Design
2.2.1 DFTA 12 model
The machine consists of the dust-tight sieve housing which is supported on a frame
by hollow rubber springs. The machine is equipped with two sieve decks. The
clamping levers immediately release the slide-in sieve frames when unclamped,
which allows quick sieve changes. The sieve frame is supported on four hollow rub-
ber springs. This prevents vibrations from being transmitted to the housing.

2.2.2 DFTA 13, DFTA 23 models
The machine consists of the dust-tight sieve housing which is supported on a frame
by hollow rubber springs. The machine is equipped with three sieve decks or option-
ally two sieve decks with a blind bottom between them (double flow system). The
clamping levers immediately release the slide-in sieve frames when unclamped,
which allows quick sieve changes. The sieve frame is supported on four hollow rub-
ber springs (7). This prevents vibrations from being transmitted to the housing.

2.3 Function
Product must be fed into the machine in metered quantities. In the inlet, the product
is evenly spread out over the entire sieve width of the machine. Oscillation of the
entire sieve box is achieved by means of vibrator motors. The sieve vibrations move
the product over the sieves and keep the sieves clean. This operating principle
allows high throughput rates and guarantees good sifting quality.

2.4.1 Ambient conditions
Temperature range: +5 to +50 °C.
2.4.2 Connected load
The connected load is specified according to customer and country.
2.4.3 Aspiration
To achieve good performance when operating the machine, connect the machine to
an aspiration system.
Required air volume:
•10 m3/min (DFTA 12)
•12 m3/min (DFTA 13)
•15 m3/min (DFTA 23)

2.4.5 Determining the mesh widths
Choosing the correct sieve mesh width is critical for performance and sifting quality.
Choose the mesh widths for the sieve deck according to the following formula:
MW = desired grain size of throughs / 0.8
Select the closest standard mesh width.
Application limit: 2 mm (smallest possible mesh width).

3 Transport
Allow personnel to transport the system only if they are familiar with the task and
have received proper training.
3.1 Crane suspension
The machine is shipped completely assembled and ready for connection. For trans-
port, the sieve box is fastened in place by four transport stabilisation devices (1) and
(2) that are attached to the sides. These devices are marked with yellow paint and
must be removed before commissioning the machine.
Danger!
Never walk beneath suspended loads.
Caution!
Check to ensure that the crane and lifting gear are designed such that they can
bear the load, and verify their maximum permitted load.
Hoist the machine at the specified suspension points only.

4 Installation
4.1 Site requirements
Space requirements, floor openings, bearing surfaces and floor loads are in accord-
ance with separate planning documents.
4.2 Installation
Block the assembly area against unauthorised access.
Secure the surrounding area (remove any items that could cause someone to
stumble etc.).
Allow sufficient clearance for performing installation and set-up tasks.
The machine is installed directly to the floor. Fastening holes are provided on
the support plates of the machine frame. The machine must be exactly level hor-
izontally.
4.3 Product inlet
Product must be fed to the inlet directly into the middle of the machine so that the
product stream is distributed evenly over the entire sieve width. Best results are
achieved if the last piece of the inlet pipe is installed vertically to the machine. If that
is not possible, the inlet pipe can be connected at a light pitch (up to max. 45° from
vertical). If the vertical pipe piece to the inlet is longer than 1 m, an additional dead
box must be installed upstream of the sieve inlet.

4.4 Product outlet
Depending on the design, the sieve has 3 to 4 outlets for overs from each sieve deck
(1) and (2) as well as one outlet for throughs (3). When installing the piping be abso-
lutely sure that the individual outlets are connected with each other via adjustable
gates depending on the use of the sieve. Observe the pipe construction diagram!
So that no vibrations are transmitted, the outlets must be connected to the piping
using the rubber sleeves provided. Dimension “S” between the pipes = 5 to 10 mm
(see Fig. 4.1,
19).
4.5 Energy connections
Installation must be carried out in accordance with local and national regulations.
4.5.1 Vibrator motors
To protect the vibrator motor, it is absolutely necessary to install a protective motor
switch or a contactor with thermal overcurrent relays.
Ensure that the connection cables are suspended loosely. Due to the danger of a
cable breaking caused by sieve vibrations, only rubber cables may be used. Con-
necting the limit switch (vibration monitoring) (refer to Fig. 4.3,
21). The distance
between the limit switch and the sieve box is approx. 1 mm.
Note:
At distances greater than “S”, there is a danger that the rubber sleeves will wear
prematurely.

Due to the axially parallel arrangement of the two vibrator motors, these must run
in opposite rotation direction and must be electrically interlocked with each other
(see Chapter 4.5.2,
