INTRODUCTION The Model DFM-BRK from Siemens Industry, Inc.,
provides a fiber optic interface for the FireFinder XLS
digital audio network (DNET) which interconnects the
DAC-NET modules. The DFM-BRK can be connected
either Style 4 or Style 7 and utilizes the Telebyte model
DFM fiber optic converter. The DFM uses 62.5/125 um
fiber at distances up to 2KM. Standard ST connectors
are provided for connection of the optical fiber.
The DFM-BRK mounts in the rear of the XLS CAB-1/-2/-3
enclosure and occupies one module space.
INSTALLATION
Remove all system power before installation, first battery then AC. (To power up,
connect the AC first, then the battery.)
Each DFM-BRK requires at least one DFM converter. Required DFM may be ordered
under P/N 500-634910. Check the wiring section below and determine the quantity
and location of the DFMs for each DFM-BRK in the system.
1. Attach one of the DB-25 cables, P/N 555-134899, supplied with the
DFM-BRK to each DFM. Secure the DB-25 connector using the screws
which are captive on the DFM.
2. Place the DFMs on the DFM-BRK with the ST connectors facing the bottom
of the DFM-BRK. Be sure to observe the locations of the DFMs for the first
and last DAC-NETs in a Style 4 network (see Figure 2). These two locations
use only one DFM and their location on the DFM-BRK is critical to proper
DNET operation.

3. Place the DFM hold-down bracket over the DFMs (see Figure 1) and secure
in place using the two screws and nuts provided in the DFM-BRK hardware
kit.
4. Plug the 6 position connector on the end of the DB-25 cable into the
corresponding receptacle on the DFM-BRK.
5. Mount the DFM-BRK in the back of the enclosure with the four screws
from the hardware kit.
6. Wire between the DFM-BRK TB1 and the DAC-NET (see Figure 2).
7. Connect 24V from TB4 on the PSC-12 to TB2 on the DFM-BRK, be sure to
observe the correct polarity (see Figure 3).
8. Connect the fiber optic cables to the DFMs. The transmit (T) output on each
DFM must go to the receive (R) input on its partner DFM for proper opera-
tion.
9. Apply power. If the Power LED on the DFM-BRK is not lit, check the polarity
of the 24V input on TB2.
10. Once all DFM-BRKs are installed, check the DNET for errors. Refer to the
DNET fault LEDs on the DAC-NETs. Once all DNET fault LEDs are clear the
DNET is properly connected.

NOTES:
1. All wire and fiber connections supervised.
2. All wire connections power limited.
3. Maximum fiber length 2km.
4. Refer to DAC-NET Installation Instructions, P/N 315-035100.
5. For Style 4 (DCLB) two DFMs are required on all DFM-BRKs located in the middle of the network. Only one DFM is required at each end.
6. For Style 7 (DCLC) two DFMs are required on every DFM-BRK regardless of the location.
7. In Canada, ULC S524 requires that all interconnecting data communications links for networks be wired DCLC (style 7) except for
dedicated network communication to annunciators.
