Caution:

We highly recommend that you have

an authorized QMS service techni-

cian install your QMS 4060 as well as

the optional large-capacity input

feeder.

However, if you do install this option yourself (or if you ever move the printer and this option), you must make

certain that the option aligns correctly with the printer.

This document provides quick installation information for the large-capacity input feeder for legal-size media.

Installation of the LCIF-Legal may require a call to your authorized service provider. If the engine prom (EPROM) part is marked with #1001598D or a lower alpha

character, then an upgrade is required. If the EPROM is labelled #1001598E or higher, an upgrade is not necessary.

Installation of the EPROM by a non-

authorized service organization or individual will void the warranty of the printer and the LCIF.

In addition, this option also requires system code rv2.1.3.

Check the startup page; if the system code is not rv2.1.3 or higher, refer to chapter 9, “Troubleshooting,” in the

CD-ROM to update the printer’s software. This enables the engine to recognize the Large-Capacity Input Feeder for legal-

size media.

Installing the Large-Capacity Input Feeder (LCIF-Legal)

The Large-Capacity Input Feeder for legal-size media (LCIF-Legal) holds 3000 sheets and increases the paper input capacity of the QMS 4060 Print System to 4500

sheets. The LCIF-Legal supports only plain paper 17–24 lb (64–90 g/m²). Thick paper, greater than 24 lb (90 g/m²), prepunched, and predrilled paper are not recom-

mended.



Caution:

Proper alignment of the LCIF to the printer is extremely important. Improper alignment causes frequent media jams. A firm, level surface is

necessary to achieve alignment. If you are placing your printer and LCIF on a soft carpeted floor, be sure you place a firm material, such as a chair

mat, under the units for stability.

The depth of the LCIF-Legal is 17.6" (446 mm). The LCIF-Legal requires the following clearances when you are installing this option:

For final positioning of the printer and LCIF-Legal, make sure to allow enough room for the door of the input feeder to open completely (without having to move the

unit). Unnecessary movement of the printer and feeder can cause misalignment between the two units, and jams occur as a result.



WARNING!

The LCIF-Legal weighs approximately 41 lb. (18.6 kg). Do not attempt to lift or move it by yourself.

Unpack all items from the

box.

Save the packing material

for possible repacking.

Locate the support stand,

the support stand bracket,

and the sheet guide.

Turn off the printer and

open the front door.

Using a Phillips

screwdriver, remove the

right-side paper input cover

by loosening the front

screw and removing the

rear screw.

Attach the sheet guide to

the printer using the screws

you loosened and removed

earlier.

Install the support stand

bracket using the screws

attached.

Lift the support stand and

place it on top of the

support stand bracket.

Attach the support stand to

the support stand bracket.

Pull out the support stand

slide-rails until they lock in

the out position.

Set the LCIF on the pins of

the slide-rails.

Secure the LCIF to the

support stand using the

thumbscrews.















Connect the interface cable

to the connector on the rear

lower-left side of the printer.

Slide the LCIF into the

sheet guide on the printer

until it locks in place.



Caution

: Adjust the

leveling feet on the

support stand so the

leveling chains just

touch the floor.

Turn on the printer.

Check the printer display

panel for the LCIF graphic.

This lets you know the

LCIF is connected properly.

To load paper in the LCIF-

Legal, open the LCIF door,

press the button on top of

the LCIF, load paper, and

close the door.

Press the Tray button on the

printer control panel to

select the LCIF-Legal for

paper feeding.

Use the Previous or Next

button to highlight the LCIF-

Legal on the graphic, and

then press Select.



Through the Administration/Engine/Default Paper Sz menu, set the LCIF-Legal to legal-size paper.
