ThewaythatLCMhandlesrequeststocreatevirtualmachinesdependsonhowtheLCMAdministratorhas
configuredtheapprovalprocess.Ifapprovalisrequired,anemailnotificationissenttotheLCMApprover.
If approvalisnotrequired,andthereisnoconflictwiththerequest,thevirtualmachine
iscreated.Ifthereis
aconflict,anLCMITStaffuserreceivesanemailnotificationthatavirtualmachineiswaitingtobecreated.
Afteravirtualmachinehasbeencreated,itcanbeuseduntilthedecommissioningdate.Fivedaysbeforethe
decommissioningdate,anemailnoticeissent
totheuserwhorequestedthevirtualmachineifemail
notificationsareenabled.Therequestercandooneofthefollowing:
Requesttoextendthelifeofthemachine.
Iftheextensionisnotapproved,thevirtualmachineisdecommissionedandisarchivedordeleted.
The LCMAdministratordetermineswhetherdecommissionedvirtualmachinesarearchived.
Manuallydecommissionthevirtualmachine.
TheLCMAdministratorcanchoosetodeletethevirtualmachinerequest.TheLCMAdministratoristheonly
rolethatcanremoveinformationaboutavirtualmachine.Whenarequestisdeleted,noinformationaboutthe
virtualmachineappearsinreports,butthevirtualmachineisnot
destroyed.Ifavirtualmachinerequestis
accidentallydeleted,theLCMAdministratorcanrecovertheassociatedvirtualmachine.

Role-Based User Interface
LCMhasarolebasedinterface.Usersarepresentedonlytheoptionsthatarerelevanttoaspecificrole.

LCMhasthefollowingroles:
LCMAdministratorEstablishesthecriteriausedformachineplacementanddetermineshowthe
criteriaconverttosizingorplacementvalues.TheLCMAdministratorconfiguresLCMandestablishes
theplacementofvirtualmachines.
LCMRequesterCanrequesttoextendthelifeofacreatedvirtualmachine.Requesterscanpower
virtualmachinesonandoff,aswellasdelegatethiscontroltootherusers.
LCMTechRequesterInadditiontodoingeverythingthattherequesterrolecando,thetechrequester
canmodifycustomizationtemplates.
LCMApproverApprovesvirtualmachinedeploymentandextensionrequests.Ifamachinecannotbe
placedbasedontheprovidedcriteria,auserwiththeLCMITStaffrolemustmanuallychoosethesizing
andplacementofthenewmachine.

WhenusingLCM,thebestpracticeistolimitaccesstotheOrchestratorclientonlytoadministrators.Youcan

fromWebserviceclientstoaccessworkflowsonsensitiveservers.
