1 Overview
1.1 Product Description
The SAPPHIRE PowerScale EX40 is an easy-to-deploy HDMI extension set ideally suited
to digital signage systems integrators seeking a compact, hassle-free, wall-mountable
extension solution for sending uncompressed HDMI A/V source signals to remote
displays over a single CATx cable.
Providing for the transmission of uncompressed digital audio and video over a single
CATx cable, this extender kit supports high-res video at distances of up to 200ft (60m)
from the source at 1080i/720p 24-bit colour; (130ft (40m) at full HD 1080p 24-bit colour; or
65ft (20m) at full HD 1080p 36-bit colour.
Complete with support for full 3D, 7.1ch digital audio, HDMI Deep Color, HDCP 1.1
compliance and adjustable 8-level equalization control for minimizing cable skew, the
SAPPHIRE PowerScale EX40 is a robust solution for assuring A/V signal quality between
source and display.

Distance is subject to grade of cable, source device and display. SAPPHIRE recommends solid cables, not
stranded, tested for 350Mhz or higher and that meet or exceed EIA/TIA 568 B.2-1 classification. Patch
cables and inline couplers will greatly reduce distance and performance of the product and should be
avoided.

EDID learning mode
2.5 EDID Learning
The SAPPHIRE PowerScale EX40 transmitter unit offers an EDID learning mode for the
support of non-standard displays. Please follow these steps in order to record the timings
of the display:
Step 1: Remove power from the transmitter and disconnect the CATx cable from the
RJ-45 connector.
Step 2: Connect the HDMI display to the “HDMI IN” on the transmitter unit using a
standard HDMI cable.
Step 3: Set the MODE rotary switch to position 7.
Step 4: Turn on the transmitter unit by applying power.
Step 5: Wait until you see the LED on the RJ-45 connector dim and return to its normal
intensity confirming that the EDID learning procedure is complete.
Step 6: Unplug the display and connect the transmitter to the source (player PC, Blu-
ray or other).

cable for a project. SAPPHIRE recommends solid cables, not stranded, tested for
350Mhz or higher and that meet or exceed EIA/TIA 568 B.2-1 classification.
