Distance is subject to grade of cable, source device and display. SAPPHIRE recommends solid cables, not
stranded, tested for 350Mhz or higher and that meet or exceed EIA/TIA 568 B.2-1 classification. Patch
cables and inline couplers will greatly reduce distance and performance of the product and should be
avoided.

3 IR Extenders
3.1 IR Extender Description
The EX100 includes an IR blaster and an IR receiver used to extend the reach of infrared
(IR) controls such as a standard remote control for a TV, DVD player or Blu-ray player.
The blaster and receiver units are functionally and visually different. To recognize the
devices please refer to the images below.
IR blaster
IR receiver
IR blaster:
The IR blaster unit is used to extract the commands from the CATx bus and recreate the
exact infrared signal as originally captured.
IR receiver:
The IR receiver unit is used to capture the signal from a remote control. The EX100 will
extend the data captured from the IR receiver via the CATx cable and transmit the
data to the other unit.
IMPORTANT: Connecting the blaster or receiver units to the incorrect ports may damage
the units. Please ensure to properly identify the blaster and receiver units and take care
to properly identify their respective ports on the EX100 transmitter or receiver units.
