Watts CrimpAll CrimpRing Cutter is a tool designed to cut crimp rings on PEX tubing fittings. It features a calibration screw that allows you to adjust the depth of the cut to prevent damage to the fitting. The blunt jaw of the cutter is inserted into the fitting, and the cutting blade is then brought into contact with the crimp ring. Compressing the jaws will cut through the crimp ring, allowing the fitting to be removed from the tubing. The CrimpRing Cutter is a valuable tool for any plumber or DIYer who works with PEX tubing.

CALIBRATING THE CUTTER
CAUTION: The CrimpRing Cutter must be calibrated
before use to prevent damage to fittings. The depth
of the cut is set by using the tool’s calibration screw.
For accurate calibration, use a test fitting of the same
or similar diameter as the fitting currently installed.
1. Insert the blunt
jaw of the Cutter into
the test fitting.
2. Gently close the
jaws until the cutting
blade meets the ribs
on the test fitting.
The cutting blade
should be calibrated
so that it does not
touch the test fitting.
3. Adjust the blade’s cutting depth by turning the
calibration screw until the blade does not touch the
test fitting when the handles are fully closed and
compressed. Loosening the calibration screw allows
the blade to cut more deeply; tightening the screw
causes the cut to be more shallow. The purpose is
to calibrate the Cutter so that it easily cuts the crimp
ring without damaging the fitting underneath.
4. Repeat this calibration process as often as necessary
to prevent damaging fittings.
WARNING: Never use a fitting that is damaged by the
Cutter; the fitting will leak.
CUTTING THE CRIMP RING
1. Using a PEX tubing cutter,
cut the PEX just beyond the
fitting barb. The tubing
should be cut far enough
away from the barb so
the fitting is not damaged
by the tubing cutter, but
close enough to the fitting
that the crimp ring Cutter
blade will completely cross
the crimp ring.
2. Insert the blunt jaw of
the Cutter into the fitting.
Close the Cutter jaws until
the cutting blade meets the
copper crimp ring.
3. Compress the jaws until
the crimp ring is cut through.
A properly calibrated Cutter
tool should not damage the
fitting (see calibration).
4. Remove the cut crimp
ring and the scrap PEX from
the fitting barb.
5. Provided the fitting was
not damaged when the
crimp ring was cut, a new
crimp connection can now
be made. If the fitting was
damaged, do not use it.
Replace it with a new fitting.
