Please read these instructions fully before starting construction.
PVA or equivalent glue will be required to stick sections together.
Sand paper can be used to gently clean any joints.
A sharp modelling knife will be required to remove sections from the sprue. Please use knives with due
care and remember to cut away from yourself at all times.
During the construction of this model, you may find it convenient to use pegs / elastic bands to hold
pieces in place while you allow glue to dry.
Due to the fine nature of some of the pieces making up this model they are fragile, please take care
when exerting pressure on them so as not to damage them.
Take the pieces shown above from the sprue.
Glue the two supports with lugs on the top to the
small disk (see above).
Glue the other supports to the larger disk.
Work around the large disk, leaving two spaces
opposite each other (see pic).
Glue the sub-assembly into place.
Take the roof sections (3 of the 14 sets shown above)
Wortk around the dome, adding the pieces
..until the whole dome is covered.
Take the side of the lamp room.
NB: These are fragile pieces.
Attach the window end of them to the underside of
the dome.
Tip: If they are a bit stiff, do NOT force them. Use a
small length of sprue inside the nearest window and
push on that instead.
Gently align the wall end of the pieces so they
slot into the holes in the walkway.
Take the railings.
Add these to the model.
Add the extra disk to the top of the dome.
Take the two larger disks.
Glue these to the bottom of the model.
Take the base and lower wall pieces.
Glue the walls to the base so the single lug is at the
top. Ensure the wall piece with the holes is in the right
place (see pic)
Take the pieces of the fog horn room.
Glue these into place as shown.
Add the inner wall piece.
The pieces of the curved steps.
Starting with the longest piece, glue it into
position. The side lug should fit snugly into the
edge of the fog horn room.
Repeat this for the other pieces.
Continue to add all the pieces except for the top step.
Attach the roof, then add the top step.
The pieces of the main steps.
NB: The handrails are fragile.
Glue the side pieces into place, then glue the
steps between them.
The pieces for the lower external wall.
Attach the plain wall pieces as shown.
Then glue the rest to them.
The pieces of the store house.
Add the walls to the model.
Then attach the roof.
Glue the lower walkway to the model.
NB: Ensure the door is closest to the main steps.
Each of the 10 main wall pieces is formed from
these parts.
Start by adding the bottom three covering pieces
ensuring the support with the top lug is on the left.
The three wall pieces with windows in them use
these parts (the position of the window varies on
each piece)
As with the main walls, add the three lower covering
pieces, then slot the window into the appropriate
position.
Glue the other covering pieces into place to lock
the window into position.
The wall piece with the door in it is formed from these
pieces.
This time add the two covering pieces shown.
Add the window.
Add the rest of the coverings and glue the door
into place.
Glue the side strips together.
Then attach them to the door piece as shown.
Starting with the door, glue the walls to the base,
slotting their lower lugs into the slots.
Tip: Push/support the base from below when inserting
the wall pieces.
All the rest of the walls.
The walls with the windows in them are equally
spaced around the model.
Highest (on door piece), 2nd highest directly
opposite. 3rd highest on right, lowest on the left.
Using the large hole to allow access to the inside of
the model, gently ease the lug on the top of each wall
section into the associated hole in the disk.
The lugs should extend through the disk by around
2mm.
Attach the second disk.
Glue the lamp room sub-assembly to the model.
Add the lower railings.
Make sure the gate piece is at the top of the curved
steps.
Three views of the completed model.
Painting
After construction we sprayed our model with white car undercoat /
primer (Halfords aerosol).
Once dry, we gave the entire model a covering of a pale grey paint (DIY
emulsion) paint then dry brushed it with an very pale grey / off-white
(DIY emulsion paint) to pick out the block work.
The woodwork (doors and lamp room hatch) were painted green.
The surround of the model, both sets of steps and the two outer roof
pieces were painted in a dark grey.
