Design Philosophy
The design philosophy at WittRock is to
work closely with clinicians and
architects to design a headwall system
that specifically meets their needs and
wants. Clinicians uniquely define how
they want to deliver care. At WittRock,
we configure our systems to meet the
user’s needs.
The headwall is a means for delivering
medical gases, electrical services,
communication devices, and for
managing medical equipment. As
headwalls are an extension of the clinical
caregiving support system, the headwall,
therefore, must be able to meet the
clinician’s needs. Just using standard
concepts or products to deliver care may
not meet the requirements that the
clinicians are demanding. Clinicians
want to solve their problems rather than
have to apply band-aids on standard
options to make them work.
The capability of WittRock to design a
system that meets clinical needs and
wants is based on product
configurability; the vast clinical
experience and knowledge at WittRock;
and most importantly, the ability for
WittRock to understand how a
customer’s needs can best be met.
WittRock provides value by listening to
customers and understanding their needs
and wants.
Product configurability is dependent on
the product’s flexibility and adaptability
to provide more or less services and/or
change the position of these services
over time. The only constant in
healthcare is the fact that the method of
care delivery changes over time. New
equipment and procedures are constantly
being introduced. If the headwall or any
other product does not have the
flexibility, adaptability, and
expandability to also change, the facility
runs the risk of becoming obsolete in
how it delivers care.
The WittRock system is based on
components. Additional components can
be added over time to increase the
amount of medical gases, electrical
services, and equipment management.
Services can also be configured within
each of the components according to the
amount and location needed to meet the
requirements of each clinical situation.
WittRock consults with the architect
and clinician when developing a
headwall design. By asking clinicians
how they want to deliver care, and
listening to their needs and wants,
WittRock is able to create a system of
products that meet the customer’s
objectives. An internal system of design
support takes the clinician’s and
architect’s ideas and translates them into
workable headwall designs.
WittRock also understands that it must
create a starting point in the design
process. These starting points are based
on our 30 years of experience providing
headwall systems for most of the
facilities in the United States. The
number of services and location of
services in any clinical area are based on
the knowledge that we have gained.
