* If more than 6 pulse units are installed together with mech. push-buttons (satellites) the
overload protection of the SE automatic switch may be triggered. The SE automatic switch will
then not switch off the light.
If the system cover recognises a thermal
movement within the detection field and its
brightness measurement indicates that the
ambient lighting is insufficient, the pulse unit
sends a 60 ms pulse to the series embodied
automatic switch. The unit has a retriggering
operation, i.e.a 60 ms pulse is emitted every
60 sec. in the event of further movement.
The series embodied automatic switch swit-
ches the light on and sends an ON signal to
all pulse units while they are switched on.
The brightness measurement of the system
cover is inactive during this period, the
ambient brightness is not measured.
The series embodied automatic switch sends
an OFF signal to the unit if the time delay set
on the series embodied automatic switch has
elapsed and no retriggering has been effec-
ted by the pulse unit. The unit and all the
parallel units are locked for a period of about
3 seconds.This prevents any unintentional
activation due to detection of the lamp as it
cools down.
* The communication between the pulse unit
and the series embodied automatic switch is
carried out by a half-wave control of the
sinusoidal mains voltage i.e. the devices
detect the various switching states at the
existing or missing mains half-waves.
Series embodied automatic switch,
Ref.no. 208 REG
The series embodied automatic switch can
be connected in 3-wire or 4-wire circuits.
The time delay (approx. 10 sec. – 10 min.,
infinitely variable) and the operating mode
(OFF/Automatic/ON) are directly set on the
series embodied automatic switch.
Pulse unit, Ref.no. 208 UI
The pulse unit is used for upgrading stair-
case lighting systems with automatic
switches. The unit is operated exclusively by
an associated series embodied automatic
switch (power unit). The system cover from
the 180 UP automatic switch range is used
as „motion detector“. Other covers cannot be
used. Destruction of the unit by using a
„wrong“ cover is impossible.
The pulse unit is designed as a 2-wire
system and replaces the mechanical push-
buttons used in the staircase lighting installa-
tion.The manually operated installation is
therefore replaced by an automatic staircase
lighting installation.
Up to 8 pulse units can be connected in
parallel.When using satellites (push-buttons),
the number of pulse units is reduced: see
table.

push-buttons (make contact).
An LED in the mode adjuster indicates the
switched state.
LED on = light switched on.
Series embodied automatic switches may
not be connected in parallel.
The operation of one of these push-buttons
results in non brightness-dependent
activation.
The pulse unit operates dependent on
brightness.The brightness adjuster is located
in the pulse unit and is accessible after
removal of the system cover. The adjustment
range is the same as for the comfort cover
(approx. 3-80 lux + daytime operation).
The pulse unit can either be switched to the
live or to the neutral conductor and, if used
with the series embodied automatic switch,
is therefore compatible with the push-buttons
used in the staircase lighting system.
