Reading the built in Modbus Registers on JW 4110L Wirelessly
Introduction
The JetWave4110L is outdoor industrial grade LoRa Gateway for the Serial to LoRa environment
monitoring market. The Gateway series equips with one embedded LoRa module, one M12
connecter, 1 serial port and 1 AI/DI and 1DO.
In the Quickstart Guide 1, we have already manage to setup the communication between 2 JetWave
4110L, in this example we will explore more on the Modbus Slave function built into the JetWave
4110L and what you can do with them.

Overview
In part 1 we have successfully created a working data stream between a pair for JetWave 4110L, now
we will explore the Modbus Slave and functionalities built into the JetWave 4110L.
The JetWave 4110L has the following interfaces built for you to use as with Modbus slave:
• Digital / Analogue input
o Using the same input pin, you will have to select the mode using the JetControl SW
during setup.
o Modes:
▪ Normal ADC (mV)
▪ Logic High/Low
▪ 4~20mA (%)
▪ 0~10V (%)
▪ 4~20mA (mA)
▪ 0~20mA (%)
▪ 0~20mA (mA)
• Digital Output
o Latch mode
▪ Open Drain
▪ JetWave 4110L has internal pull up resistors in this mode
o PWM mode
▪ Allows you to control output voltage level using PWM
▪ Max = Voltage input on the JetWave 4110L

With the same basic configuration as part one, we will just connect unit A to PC / or any kind of
Modbus master and then have it read the data from the Modbus Addresses of Unit B.

Putting your solution together
Reading the digital input values
Information taken from the user manual
To read the values from the Digital Input, the registers to read is 0x3000 (Hexadecimal value) which
converts to 12288 in decimal. Depend on the Modbus master you are using it may start with 0 or 1,
so the address might be 0x3000 or 0x3001 depending on the settings of the Modbus Master.
The software that I am using requires to use 0x3001 / 0d12288 instead.

Example 1: 0~10V / normal ADC (mV)
In this example the device has already been setup to to by DI Type 0: 0~10V / normal ADC (mV)
As showed in the register will return value from 0 - 5000 (0 - 10000mV) which means each step of the
registers = 2mV
CAS Modbus Scanner and with my voltage set to about 4V on my power supply:
We were able to read 2221 from the register, using the formulae of DI_Value*2:
2221 * 2 = 4442mV

CAS Modbus Scanner and with my voltage set to about 8V on my power supply:
We were able to read 4229 from the register, using the formulae of DI_Value*2:
4229* 2 = 8458mV
Troubleshooting Tips
• Status light is constantly blinking red
• Check the RS-485 connecting to make sure it has a solid connection or swap the
Tx/Rx pair if have to
• Text transmitted over terminal is not readable gibberish
• Check the Com Port Settings both on the Device and the Terminal Software to make
sure they match, both devices should have matching settings as well.
