60-Day History Archive Firmware User Manual
Rev. Feb-09 1
1 INTRODUCTION
This manual describes the custom 60-Day History Firmware designed for use with the FloBoss™ 103
and 104 Flow Managers (FB103/104). This custom firmware allows a FB103/104 unit to archive 60
days of daily historical values. For all standard history points, 60 days of daily history will be
maintained. Standard firmware maintains 35 days of daily history values. The periodic (hourly)
historical database is unaffected and still maintains 35 days of historical values. The minute,
minimum/maximum, and extended history databases are also unaffected.
This custom firmware also includes an enhancement to the history routine to support the rollover of
floating point and UINT32 accumulated totals. In contrast, the standard FB103/104 firmware only
supports the rollover of the accumulated pulse totals of a PI point (TLP=5,x,16).
For QER 05Q024, the custom firmware is downloaded to the FB103/104 using ROCLINK™ 800
Configuration Software (version 1.80 or greater).
Note: No hardware upgrade is required for this custom firmware.
The components of QER 05Q024 are:

This manual assumes that the user is familiar with the FloBoss unit and its configuration. For more
information, refer to the FloBoss 103 and 104 Flow Managers Instruction Manual (Form A6114) and
ROCLINK 800 Configuration Software User Manual (Form A6121).

2 OPERATION
The FloBoss 60-Day History custom firmware differs from standard firmware in that 60 days (versus
35 days) of daily history are maintained, and rollover of floating-point and UINT32 accumulated totals
are accounted for by the history routine. Accumulated totals that are UINT32 parameters are assumed
to rollover when the value exceeds 16,000,000. When the history routine calculates a negative change
to the accumulated total, the firmware adds 16,000,000 to account for the rollover. Similarly,
accumulated totals that are floating-point parameters are assumed to rollover when the value exceeds
1,000,000.0. When the history routine calculates a negative change to the accumulated total, the
program adds 1,000,000.0 to account for the rollover.
The custom firmware is based on version 2.14 of standard FB103/104 firmware. Flow calculations, I/O
functionality, control operations, and communications are unaffected. The number and configuration of
standard and extended history points remain unchanged. Also, the periodic (hourly), minute,
minimum/maximum, and extended historical databases are unaffected.
The 60 days of daily history can be retrieved using opcode 130 or through Modbus protocol.
2.1 ROC Protocol
The following list describes the ROC Protocol differences between the 60-day history firmware and
standard firmware.
Opcode 120 – The number of daily history logs (offset 26) will return a value of 60 instead of 35.
Opcode 128 – Even though 60 daily history values are archived in the FloBoss, this opcode will allow
access to only the most recent 35 days of daily history.
Opcode 130 – This opcode will allow the user to request up to 60 days of daily history. The number of
history values is specified by offset 8 of the request.
Refer to the ROC Protocol User Manual (Form A4199) for more details on ROC protocol message
formats.

3 DOWNLOADING THE 60-DAY HISTORY FIRMWARE
Notes::
The firmware download procedures apply to the 60-Day History firmware for the FB103/104 (QER
05Q024).
A PC must be connected to the FloBoss Operator Interface (LOI) port before any firmware
download starts.
3.1 Verify Current Firmware
Verify the current firmware revision level of your device.
1. Launch ROCLINK 800 software and connect to the FloBoss unit.
2. Select ROC > Information from the main ROCLINK800 screen. The Device Information
screen displays.
3. Select the Other Information tab on the Device Information screen.
4. Verify the correct firmware revision level is listed in the Version Name field. The correct
version is 05Q024 Ver. 2.14.
5. Select OK to return to the main ROCLINK800 screen.
6. Proceed to Section 3.2 Update Firmware to update the firmware.
3.2 Update Firmware
The Update Firmware feature updates the internal memory stored in FloBoss flash memory by loading
it from a file.
1. The 60-Day History firmware file is typically supplied on a disk. It is recommended that you
create a backup copy of the disk.
2. Read the README text file included with the firmware update.
3. Select Utilities > Update Firmware from the main ROCLINK800 screen.
4. Verify the Save Device Configuration … and Restore Device Configuration… options are
selected.
5. Enter a temporary file name in the Config File field or use the Browse option to select an
existing configuration file.
6. Use the Browse option to select the custom firmware download file (05Q024_v214.bin). This
dialog box displays the names of all files with the .BIN extension. Navigate to the location of
the firmware file. For example, if the firmware was shipped to you on a CD-ROM, navigate to
the CD drive.
7. Click Start to begin the Update Firmware process.
8. Click Yes in the Confirm Update Warning dialog box.

9. The loading process typically takes several minutes; do not disturb it during this time. When
loading of the firmware is complete, the backup files are automatically loaded into the FloBoss
and the actions are recorded in its Event Log.
At this point the FloBoss unit will be restored to the previous configuration, the archival of 60 days of
daily history will begin. Once 60 days of history have been logged, 60 days of history may be accessed
through ROC protocol or Modbus protocol.
