SlideDriver™ Operator
Heater Installation MX001019
The following instructions are intended to assist the user in the installation of the heater unit for use on the SlideDriver™ gate
operators. The heater prevents components from freezing and not operating properly. Please read all assembly instructions
before installing the kit.
WORK SAFELY!
Only a qualified service technician with proper training should
perform this installation. Follow all shop safety rules when
performing this installation.
PREPARATION
1. Make sure gate operator is turned off and moving
components are idle.
2. Unlock and remove cover using key.
3. Set the cover aside.
4. Disconnect negative battery cable from the battery.
INSTALLATION
1. Remove the pivoting arms from the drive post by
removing the two ¼ inch bolts attached to the pin tabs.
2. By holding the pivot arms with you right hand and
jiggling the arm you can easily slip the pins out.
3. Slide the two pivot arms and motors out as a complete
unit.
4. The heater strip gets installed vertically in the drive post.
5. Use the two ¼ inch X 1 inch bolts to mount the strip.
6. Use the bolt with a at washer on the outside of the drive
post and a at washer on the inside of the drive post
as a stand off keeping the heater strip from contacting
the paint of the drive post complete the mounting by
adding the 7/16 inch nuts.
7. Connect the heater cord to the heater strip; be sure to
bend the terminals up so that they contact no metal
surfaces.
8. Mount the strip vertically with the terminals down.
9. Take the lock washer off of the included romex connector
and run the lock washer onto the heater cord.
10. Then take the heater cord and run it through the hole
in the bottom of the drive post.
11. Slip on the rest of the romex connector onto the cord
then run it down to the hole and mount the lock washer.
NOTICE
Components of this option are wired in a series circuit.
12. Take the romex connector and tighten it down onto
the heater cord.
13. Take the heater cord up to the control panel box and
run it through one of the knockouts to the upper left of
the limit switch sockets use the plastic cord connectors
to attach to the panel wall.
14. In the same corner on the inside of the panel box you
will nd two holes for mounting the thermostat.
See Steps 15-18 for 115/208/230VAC 1-Ø and 3-Ø option.
15. Wire one lead of the thermostat to terminal L1 of the
motor contactor or VFD.
16. Connect the other lead of the thermostat to one of the
heater strip leads.
17. Connect the remaining heater strip lead to terminal L2
of the motor contactor or VFD.
18. Insure there are no short circuits present and the job
should be completed.
See Steps 19-22 for 480VAC 3-Ø option.
19. Wire one lead of the thermostat to a 24VAC power
source (terminals ACC+ on the smart touch power
board, terminal # X1 on a relay operator)
20. Connect the other lead of the thermostat to one of the
heater relay coil terminals.
21. Connect the other heater relay coil terminal to the other
side of a 24VAC power source (terminal ACC- on the
smart touch power board, terminal number ten of the
relay operator).
22. Insure there are no short circuits present and the job
should be completed.
NOTICE
Components of this option are wired in a series circuit.
NOTICE
The components of a 480VAC heater are also wired in a
series circuit along with an additional contactor except
that it is the coil of the heater relay that is now in this
series circuit.
