SYSTEM INSTALLATION
Because the features of Excalibur SE and the Matrix Switching
System are so versatile, it is important to plan the installation
carefully to gain full advantage of these features. It is
recommended that the user become thoroughly familiar with
the capabilities and operating modes of the Matrix Switcher,
determine the needs of the facility, and set up the Excalibur SE
system only after thorough planning.
The weakest links in any security/CCTV system using
Excalibur SE will be the computer hardware and the quality of
the CCTV system installation. It is strongly recommended that
a computer of the highest quality and reliability is used. An
uninterruptible power supply is required (UPS), as opposed to
a standby power supply (SPS) which is sometimes billed as a
true UPS. The software is designed to reload critical data at
regular intervals to help avoid memory corruption problems
from power surges, glitches, and momentary outages.
However, it is still essential to use computer hardware of the
highest quality, to use a UPS to control and condition the
power, and to provide a stable power circuit to insure reliable
control and monitoring.
PC Configuration Requirements
The minimum computer configuration required to operate the
Excalibur SE program system is a true IBM PC compatible
computer, with the following:
1. At least a 386DX 33 Mhz or 486SX 25 Mhz processor.
2. A minimum of 4 Mbytes of RAM extended memory. The
number of maps and icons available is directly related to the
amount of RAM; a minimum of 4 Mb is recommended.
3. A minimum hard disc capacity of 100 Mbytes.
4. A two-button mouse or mouse emulating input. It is not
possible to use the Excalibur SE program without a mouse
or mouse emulating input device.
5. Windows 3.1 Operating Software; DOS 5.0 or greater.
6. A Windows compatible sound card to annunciate operator
actions (optional).
PC RS-232 Communications Ports
For proper RS-232 communication with the Excalibur SE
workstation PC, the pin definition and the DTE (Data Terminal
Equipment) or DCE (Data Control Equipment) configuration
of each connected device must be observed. All American
Dynamics equipment, including Matrix Switching System
Controllers, are configured as DTE devices.
For DTE-to-DTE communications between a Matrix Switching
System Controller and the Excalibur SE workstation PC,
connect a three-wire, shielded, 18-AWG RS-232 cable from
the Excalibur SE workstation PC RS-232 port to a Matrix
Switching System Controller RS-232 port, as follows:
a. Connect GND from the Excalibur SE PC port to GND on
the controller's RS-232 port.
b. Connect RCD from the Excalibur SE PC port to XMIT
on the controller's RS-232 port.
c. Connect XMIT from the Excalibur SE PC port to RCD
on the controller's RS-232 port.
Refer to the RS-232 port connector pin definitions and setup
instructions in the appropriate Switching System Controller
Installation Manual.
The RS-232 port connected to a Switching System Controller
must be setup via the Excalibur SE Setup Ports function, (refer
to the Excalibur SE Installation and Setup Instructions manual,
OP5400SPA, for port setup procedures).
PC Printer Port
The 25-pin HASP plug supplied with the software must be
connected to the PC printer port, LPT1. If the HASP plug is
not inserted, the Excalibur SE program cannot be operated, and
the following message is displayed.
Figure 1-1, page 1-3, illustrates a typical Excalibur SE

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
Installing Excalibur SE System Programs
Installation of the Excalibur SE software programs is described
in the Excalibur SE Installation and Setup Instructions manual,
OP5400SPA.
When installation is complete, the Excalibur SE Program
Group, illustrated below, is available in the Windows Program
Manager window.
System Setup
There are three setup programs for Excalibur SE: System
Setup, CAD, and Icons Setup. The setup procedures using
these programs are described in the Excalibur SE Installation
and Setup Instructions manual, OP5400SPA.
The Excalibur SE System Setup program is used to define
the system information needed by all Excalibur SE system
functions. This information includes data file directories,
alarm module and switcher port setup, operators and
passwords, map sequences, sound and video access, and data
logging. This program must be run first to identify the data
directory for all other Excalibur SE programs.
The Excalibur CAD program is a drawing program used to
create the background maps and place the icons used by
Excalibur SE.
The Excalibur SE Icons Setup program provides setup
icons that reference switcher actions. This program is used
to define the attributes for each icon, such as calling a
specified camera to a specified monitor.
System Operation
There is one program for operation of the Excalibur SE
system. The Excalibur SE program (described in Section 2 of
this manual) provides the primary user interface for control
and operation of the connected Matrix Switching Systems.
This program provides all interfaces for monitoring activity
with video graphics, mouse, touch-screen, and keyboard
control.

EXCALIBUR SE WINDOWS
It is assumed that the user is familiar with Windows operating
procedures, and has experience in using Windows applications.
This manual does not explain "standard" Windows functions,
operating procedures, and dialog boxes, unless they differ from
Windows standards. Refer to the PC's Windows Operating
Manual/Procedures for instructions on any standard Windows
procedures, such as opening and closing programs in the
Excalibur SE Program Group.
Each Excalibur SE program function is executed by opening
its icon from the Windows Excalibur SE Program Group, as
for any Windows application operation.
When an Excalibur SE program is opened, a new window is
created. Each Excalibur SE program window contains the
standard window control box and maximize/minimize buttons
in the top line, and a menu bar with several functions and/or
pull-down menus. Some Excalibur SE program windows also
have a button bar, at the bottom, containing unique action
buttons.
The mouse and keyboard are the primary input devices for all
Excalibur SE programs. The left mouse button is used in
conjunction with the mouse pointer or cursor for selecting
menu items, selecting dialog box options, etc. The right mouse
button is used to cancel actions or escape from a function. If a
touch-screen is installed, it may be used in place of the mouse
to select menu or dialog box items.
The keyboard can be used in place of the mouse for certain
actions. The keyboard “Enter” key is equivalent to the left
mouse button. The “Escape” key is equivalent to the right
mouse button.
The keyboard is used in dialog boxes to enter alphanumeric
data such as operator names, passwords, etc. The standard
Windows keyboard functions may also be used for most
Excalibur SE Window operations, such as the Alt key
combinations (Alt-Tab to switch between applications, Alt-F4
to close a window, etc.).
Dialog boxes
The Excalibur SE programs use dialog boxes for many
functions, with various check boxes and type-in fields within
each dialog box. Several of these are standard windows dialog
boxes, such as File Open, Save, and Print. Refer to the
Windows manual for explanation of these boxes. The dialog
boxes that are unique to Excalibur SE are explained fully in
this manual. Samples of these unique dialog boxes are
illustrated in each section of this manual.
Confirmation Boxes
At many points in Excalibur SE operation, the system prompts
the operator to confirm a requested action with a Confirmation
Box, as illustrated below for a window Minimize action.
If the requested action is confirmed by the operator, select the
"OK" button on this box. If the operator decides that the
requested action should not be taken, select the "Cancel"
button.
Error Message Boxes
Error messages from Excalibur SE operation are displayed in
an Operator/Error Message box, as illustrated below.
For most error conditions, the operator simply selects the
“OK” button to resume operation. In certain error conditions,
such as for an incorrect password illustrated above, the
program terminates when the operator selects the “OK” button.

SYSTEM SECURITY
Excalibur SE is designed for security operations. It
incorporates features to minimize the possibility that the
system can be misused. These features include operator
login/logout and access privileges/restrictions. Only an
operator that is logged in with Supervisor access privilege can
exit the program, “minimize” the program, or switch to other
programs from within Excalibur SE.
Minimizing Excalibur SE
To minimize Excalibur SE, select the Excalibur SE window
Control Box and select the Minimize function, or click on the
window minimize button. When Excalibur SE is “minimized”
it appears as an icon on the Windows Desktop. When
Excalibur SE is minimized other Windows application
programs can then be started from the Windows Program
Manager.
Task Switching from Excalibur SE
Excalibur SE allows the operator to “switch” between
Windows programs while Excalibur SE is operating. If
another application program is being run, such as an access
control system or a word processor for reports, the operator
can switch between Excalibur SE and the other program. To
switch between applications, press the “Alt” key and the “Tab”
key at the same time, or select Switch from the window
Control Box .
Restrictions
Only an operator with Supervisor privilege can minimize
Excalibur SE or switch to other applications from Excalibur
SE. (Operator privileges are set via system setup procedures,
described in the Excalibur SE Installation and Setup
Instructions manual, OP5400SPA.) While Excalibur SE is
active, the operator can switch, with the Alt-Tab keys, only to
other Windows applications that were started before Excalibur
SE is started.
While any other Windows application is active, Excalibur SE
is still operating in the background.
Note: Although Windows fully supports task switching and
multitasking for real-time environments, it is highly
recommended that non-Excalibur SE applications be
restricted or not allowed at all while Excalibur SE is
operating.
Note also that Windows Program Manager can not be closed
(to exit Windows) while Excalibur SE is running.

Log View/Backup (not available in SE version)
About
Exit
Each menu function is selected by clicking the mouse pointer
on the menu bar name or by pressing the Alt key plus the key
that is underlined in the menu name. The Video and Log
View/Backup menu functions are not operational in the
Excalibur SE version.
The first step in using Excalibur SE is to log in. The operator
can not select any functions, view any other maps, or even exit
the program until he is logged in. If any Excalibur SE
functions are selected without logging in, an Operator Message
is displayed indicating “No Operator Logged In”.
Log In/Out
The “Log In/Out” menu function is used for operator login or
logout. A dialog box, illustrated below, is displayed for
selection of either Log IN or Log OUT.
If “Log IN” is selected, Excalibur SE prompts for entry of a
password.
Enter the password from the keyboard and press the enter key.
The operator password is case-sensitive, and must be entered
exactly as entered via the operator setup program. If an invalid
password is entered, or “Log OUT” is selected, Excalibur SE
does not allow this operator to control the system or
acknowledge alarms.
“Log OUT” does not close the Excalibur SE program, only
removes the operator's access to the program. See page 2-9 to
exit from Excalibur SE.

EXCALIBUR SE
AD Keyboard
The “AD Keyboard” menu function brings up a keyboard
dialog box that operates like an American Dynamics model
2078 keyboard. This on-screen keyboard may be used in the
same manner as the AD keyboard to control the Matrix
Switching System. Refer to the appropriate Matrix Switching
System Programming manual for the keyboard setup and
programming instructions.
When Excalibur SE starts up, the AD keyboard is disabled and
cannot be called up. To enable the keyboard, select the
Operator Preferences menu, page 2-6, and set the “Enable AD

status to enable the keyboard.
Note: When the Excalibur SE program is exited and restarted,
the keyboard is disabled and must be enabled again using
the Preferences menu.
The AD keyboard dialog box, page 2-5, contains several
sections, similar in function to the AD model 2078 keyboard.
Monitor and Camera
At the top left of the dialog box are Monitor and Camera
windows and selection buttons for calling a monitor and a
camera and for running Tours and Salvos. These are used the
same as the associated keyboard buttons. Most switching
system video control functions are accessed from a keyboard
by first placing one of the system monitors under the control of
the keyboard (“Calling” a monitor to a keyboard) and then
“Calling” a camera to that monitor.
For example: To call a monitor to the Excalibur SE
“keyboard”, first select the monitor number on the “Enter”
keypad, then select the “Mon” button at the left. The
Monitor number is then displayed in the Monitor window
above.
To call a camera to that monitor, first select the camera
number on the “Enter” keypad, then select the “Camera”
button at the left. The Camera number is then displayed in
the Camera window above.
Enter
The Enter keypad to the right of the Monitor and Camera
groups is used to enter numeric data for all keyboard
operations, such as monitor number, camera number, Tour or
Salvo number, etc. As each number is selected, the digit is
displayed in the Enter window above. The Clear button clears
the Enter display window.
Auxiliary
The Auxiliary On and Off buttons at the top right of the
keyboard dialog box control latching or momentary auxiliary
relays at the selected camera Receiver.
Lens
The Lens control buttons below the Auxiliary buttons control
the Iris (Close or Open), Focus (Near or Far), and Zoom (Wide
or Tele) of a motorized lens on the selected camera.
Switcher Select
At the bottom left of the keyboard is a selection group to
identify the Matrix Switcher being controlled by the keyboard.
The name shown in this list is defined in the Port setup
function (described in the Excalibur SE Installation and Setup
Instructions manual, OP5400SP). If no name has been
defined, the Switcher number is displayed. Only one switcher
can be controlled by the keyboard in the Excalibur SE version.
Pan/Tilt
The lower middle section of the keyboard provides pan/tilt
control buttons for the selected camera. To move the camera,
select the arrow in the direction that you want the camera to
move. The camera pan/tilt motion continues as long as the
mouse pointer is on an arrow and the left mouse button is held
down. When the left mouse button is released or the pointer
moved, the pan/tilt action stops.

Excalibur SE Icon Controls
Selecting an icon from the map display activates the function
defined for that icon by the icon setup program, Icons Setup.
In many cases, selecting the icon also brings up a dialog box
for operator control actions defined for that icon. Depending
on the action or type of icon, the icon border changes color
when activated.
Camera Icons
Camera icons include the fixed camera, pan/tilt camera, dome,
and “bullseye” preset target icons. When a camera icon is
selected from the displayed map, the camera is called to the
monitor it has been assigned to by the icon setup program, and
the icon changes to green.
A dialog box is also displayed for this camera, as illustrated
below, with the appropriate pan/tilt, lens, and auxiliary
controls that were selected in the icon setup program. If the
camera has a preset shot assigned to it, the camera will pan,
tilt, and zoom to that preset shot automatically. The operator
may now control that camera by the dialog box controls.
Camera icons that were setup with the “Pan/Tilt/Zoom/Focus”
option selected, provide pan/tilt arrow buttons and lens zoom
and focus buttons in their dialog boxes. To control the camera
pan/tilt drive, press the arrow button and release it when the
camera is at the desired view. To control the lens zoom or
focus, press the respective button and hold until the lens is at
the desired view.
Iris open and close buttons are provided in the dialog box if the
“Iris Control” option was selected in the camera icon setup.
To control the lens iris, press the respective button and hold
until the lens view is as desired.
Buttons for “Auto Pan” and “Random Pan” are included in the
dialog box if this option was selected in the camera icon setup.
These buttons activate auto and random pan functions in the
camera pan/tilt unit. To start the functions, press the respective
button. To stop random or auto pan action, press the LEFT or
RIGHT arrow pan buttons.
If any “AUX” options were selected in the camera icon setup,
the dialog box includes the appropriate “Aux On/Off” buttons.
These are provided to control auxiliary relay functions. Any
names defined for Aux 1 or Aux 2 at icon setup are shown
instead of the Aux numbers in the dialog box.
If the camera icon is set up with no pan/tilt, lens, or auxiliary
actions, there are no camera controls in the dialog box, as
illustrated below. The camera is called to the defined monitor
and this dialog box displayed.
To exit and resume a tour sequence when finished viewing a
camera, press the “Run” button in the dialog box (for any of
the camera types). If an alarm is in the queue, pressing the
“Run” button does not resume the tour, but removes the dialog
box and hold the selected camera on its monitor.
To exit the dialog box, but hold that camera on the monitor,
press the “Hold” button, or select another icon. The dialog box
clears, but the camera is held on the monitor it was called to.
The icon of a camera on hold stays green.
