Description

The PowerDome PRO series is a variable speed PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) dome camera used in CCTV systems for

discreet surveillance of a remote area. Its operational set-up configurations are customised and stored within

its own on-board programmable non-volatile memory both in the housing and camera. The PowerDome PRO

is programmed using the Vista range of VKBD keyboards and control equipment.

Features

Back-box memory: Replacement of a unit is simple; there is no need for manual reprogramming. All settings

are stored in the camera yoke assembly and housing back-box and can be up - or down-loaded as required.

Home: The dome will return to an assigned function (preset, learn-tour or tour) after a pre-determined time.

Schedules: The dome has 8-programmable schedules for running preset, learn-tour or tours.

Multiple presets and tours: The dome features 220 presets, 4 tours of up to 32 presets each, 4 learn-tours and

4 auto-pans.

Directional indicator via OSD: The operator can set North at 0-deg, providing a clear indication of direction of

view.

RS485 and Coax (FSK) telemetry: Including Vista PD, Pelco P & D,

Up to 8-privacy masks: To prevent intrusion into unwanted areas.

Dome titles: The various dome titles can be displayed, not displayed or displayed according to a schedule.

Day/Night Switching: The dome will switch mode either automatically, manually or on a schedule.

Voltage Protection: 4,000V protection for video, data, power against lightning and surges.

Pre-set accuracy: 0.1 degree of accuracy.

Alarms: There are 7 Alarm inputs and 2 outputs in the dome head. Alarms can be scheduled by the internal

clock.

Operation Requirements

The PowerDome Pro can operate on either RS485 or coaxial FSK control. The dome’s protocols are selected

using dipswitch settings and specific telemetry protocol modules. A minimum of one controlling device is

required for operation as shown below; FSK control requires a Vista Blade or Navigator hard disk recorder

and a minimum of one keyboard. See [Figure 1]. A minimum of one keyboard is required for RS485 control.

Product Contents

The PowerDome PRO domes consist of the following:

• Housing

• PTZ camera assembly

• Installation and user manuals

Inspect the packages and contents for visible damage. If any components are damaged or missing, do not

use the unit; contact the supplier immediately. If you need to return the unit, you must ship it in the original

box.

Installation Preparations

Equipment List:

You may need the following equipment for the installation: Screws and nuts, terminal driver, small cross

screw driver, wire cutters, drill and saw.

Cables:

Video Coaxial Cable

The video coaxial cable should be:

1) 75Ω impedance.

2) Pure copper coax.

3) 95% braided copper shield.

Check the maximum transmission distance referring to the

chart.

RS-485 Cable

0.56mm (24AWG) twisted pair’s maximum transmission distance are as follows.

NOTE: Use an RS-485 distributor (VSD/16) if you need to transmit further. To learn

more about RS-485, please refer to appendix II.

DIP-Switch and jumpers settings

Please refer to appendix I to set the following:

Protocol and Baud rate, Dome address, Video cable type, Alarm output method, RS-485 termination resistor.

There is a selection of PCB boards available for connection to the power board, the table below illustrates

this.

NOTE: The protocol board should be inserted into JP2 and JP3, these can be found on the hinged power board within the dome

Cable Requirements

For RS485 operation, PowerDome PRO requires video, power, alarm and data cables.

The video cable carries the video signal to the remote viewing site. If sending video via coaxial cable, a 75Ω pure copper coaxial

cable is recommended for distances up to 250m.

The PowerDome PRO series is powered by 24VAC. To determine the cable size, please refer to the Power Cable Size and

Length on the page 12.

The RS485 control cable carries commands from the keypad to the dome. An RS485 compatible shielded, two-conductor,

twisted-pair cable is required (Beldon 8723). Recommended cable size 24 gauge (0.56 mm).

Alarms: Alarm cable is suitable or Cat 5 cable for longer distances up to 380m.

For FSK control, the data cable is not required. Pure copper coaxial cable and crimp-on BNC connectors are

recommended. Please do not use copper-coated steel cable and screw-on BNC connectors.

When using UTP video, the UTP video and RS485 control cables can share the same wire jacket, but must

remain as separate twisted-pairs.

Power Requirements

CAUTION:

For optimal video performance, all PowerDomes must be powered from an isolated 24 VAC power source—fused outputs

are not adequate. Allowable voltage range is 20 to 28 V.

All domes require a 24 VAC power supply that provides isolated outputs to operate the domes’ pan/tilt, drive

camera and heater/fan (if applicable). The total power requirement varies depending on the type of the Dome.

Power Cable Size and Length

It is important to choose the proper gauge of the cable that supplies the 24 VAC to the Dome. An inadequate

gauge will cause a voltage drop resulting in incorrect operation.

The table below gives the recommended cable lengths of varying wire gauges for a Dome. Note that the

heater and fan reduces maximum cable length substantially.

There are three basic mounting types: Wall/Pendant, In-ceiling and Surface mount; the Wall/Pendant mounts

come as either: Internal, External or Vandal Resistant styles.

In-Ceiling Housing Installation

Follow the instructions given here for In-ceiling housings.

CAUTION: The In-Ceiling housing is for indoor applications only. Do not expose it to moisture, or the unit may become damaged.

CAUTION: For all installations, heed the following cautions.

Complete all installation steps before supplying power to the dome.

To ensure proper operation of a PTZ unit, ensure the mount is level.

For safety, the mounting surface, hardware and procedure used for securing the dome must support the weight of the dome,

mount (if used), cables and any structural or environmental vibration according to local regulations. Minimum load for this

installation is 4-times the weight of the dome (see page 11 for weights). The thickness of the ceiling should be less than

42mm and the upper space above the ceiling should be at least 42cm.

Preparing the mounting surface

To prepare the mounting surface, see [Figure 6] and complete the following instructions:

1. Mark the position and size of the housing cut-out hole on the mounting surface. The size of the cut-

out must be 230mm. [Figure 7]

2. By following local regulations, cut the housing cut-out hole.

3. Make sure that the data, alarm, video and power cables for the dome comply with the

recommendations provided in the Cable Requirements on page 11.

4. Feed the cables through the housing cut-out hole in the mounting surface.

Pull enough cable to make connections. You can always cut off unneeded length later.

How many cables you have depends upon the installation using RS485 and / or alarms.

Installing the housing

Once the surface has been prepared, the housing can be installed.

To install the housing, see [Figure 8 to 12] and do the following:

1. Unfasten the power board holder. [Figure 8]

Loosen the bolt and the power board holder swings away from the housing bracket.

2. Prepare the cables. [Figure 9]

Once prepared feed the video/power/data cables though the waterproof connector at the top of the housing, finally screw

the connector to the top of the housing.

3. Connect the cables. [Figure 10]

Remove the terminal connectors from the accessories box.

Connect the Video, RS-485, power and alarm cables, before fixing onto the top board. After connection replace the top

board and secure in place. Turn on the power, the RED LED will illuminate. Turn off power after this check. (If the LED

does not illuminate check your connections).

NOTE: Ensure that the power is OFF when connecting the cables.

4. Adjust Clips. [Figure 11]

Adjust the height of the three mounting clips. Position them flush to the housing.

5. Installing the housing. [Figure 12]

Push the housing into the ceiling and move the clips so they are at 90◦ to the housing, finally tighten the three clip screws.

NOTE: Ensure that even pressure is used to tighten the three screws otherwise distortion may occur.

WARNING: Do not run cables next to the heaters. It could cause damage to the dome or an electrical fire.

CAUTION: For safety, the mounting surface, hardware and procedure used for securing the dome must support the weight of

the dome, mount (if used), cables and any structural or environmental vibration according to local regulations. Minimum load

for this installation is 4 times the weight of the dome (see page 13 for weights).

6. Set the dome ID, baud rate and protocol. [Figure 13]

Remove the two protective sponges

Set the dome ID, baud rate and protocol via the DIP-switches (refer to APPENDIX I).

7. Install the black-liner and pan/tilt module. [Figure 14]

Push the black liner onto the two locking tabs.

Align the pan/tilt module to the two clips, red to red, black to black and match the holes in pan/tilt module to the two guide

poles.

Gently push the module upwards until you hear two clicking sounds.

8. Installing the dome’s bubble. [Figure 15]

Fix the safety chain to the housing.

Match the clasps to the mounting holes then turn the bubble anti-clockwise.

NOTE: Ensure the safety chain sits inside the bubble’s arc grove to prevent it interfering with the lens.

NOTE: If fitting the bubble is difficult, adjust the mounting clips.

Surface-Mount Housing Installation

Follow the instructions given here for the surface-mount housing.

Preparing the mounting surface

CAUTION: For all installations, heed the following cautions.

Complete all installation steps before supplying power to the dome.

To ensure proper operation of a PTZ unit, ensure the mount is level.

For safety, the mounting surface, hardware and procedure used for securing the dome must support the weight of the dome,

cables and any structural or environmental vibration according to local regulations. Minimum load for this installation is 4 times

the weight of the dome (see page 13 for weights).

To prepare the mounting surface:

1. The ceiling should be hard and solid. [Figure 16]

2. Make sure that the data, video and power cables for the dome comply with the recommendations

provided in the Cable Requirements in Page 11.

3. Detach the housing from the base. [Figure 17]

Hold the base and turn the housing anti-clockwise and pull away from the base.

4. Unfasten the power board holder. [Figure 18]

Loosen the bolt and the power board holder swings away from the housing bracket, then remove the housing bracket from

the housing.

5. Mark screw positions. [Figure 19]

Use the Base as a template, mark the screw hole positions on the ceiling and drill 3-holes.

6. Mount the Base to the ceiling. [Figure 20]

Pull enough cable to make connections. You can always pull back unneeded cable later.

How many cables you have depends upon how many video, alarm, data and power cables.

7. Replace the housing bracket back into the housing. [Figure 21]

Screw the housing bracket back into the housing.

8. Prepare the cables. [Figure 22]

Once prepared, feed the video/power/data cables though the top of the housing, finally screw the connector to the top of

the housing.

9. Connect the cables. [Figure 23]

Remove the terminal connectors from the accessories box.

Connect the RS-485, power and alarm cables, before fixing onto the top board. After connection replace the top board

and secure in place. Turn on the power, the RED LED will illuminate. Turn off power after this check. (If the LED does not

illuminate check your connections).

NOTE: Ensure that the power is OFF when connecting the cables.

10. Set the dome ID, baud rate and protocol. [Figure 24]

Remove the two protective sponges

Set the dome ID, baud rate and protocol via the DIP-switches (refer to APPENDIX I).

11. Install the black-liner and pan/tilt module. [Figure 25]

Push the black liner on to the two locking tabs.

Align the pan/tilt module to the two clips, red to red, black to black and match the holes in pan/tilt module to the two guide

poles.

Gentle push the module upwards until you hear two clicking sounds.

NOTE: Ensure the AMP sockets are clean and clear of dust prior to connection.

NOTE: Do NOT forget to remove the lens cover.

12. Replace the Housing to the Base. [Figure 25]

Match the tabs on the Housing to the slots on the Base and turn clockwise to secure.

NOTE: Ensure that the Housing is secured tightly.
