About the Virtuoso Software
Welcome to the Virtuoso software, a comprehensive web-based pathology solution for viewing, managing, and sharing digitized
glass slides.
Who Should Read this Guide
Histotechnicians and Pathologists should read this user guide and use it for reference while using the Virtuoso software.
Intended Use for Virtuoso Software
The Virtuoso software is a web based pathology solution for viewing, managing and sharing digital glass slides. Virtuoso is an accessory
to iScan systems and allows interfacing with stain scoring and interpretation software algorithms.
NOTE: Images in the Virtuoso Reference Guide are illustrative only and are shown for general training purposes. Please see
the individual stainer user guides for performance characteristics for staining systems that are available for clinical
use.
Related Software
When operating the Virtuoso software without a interface to a laboratory information system, there is an optional module to
manage cases, patients, clients, physicians, and users that appear and are used within the Virtuoso software. This module is the
Virtuoso Simple Laboratory Information System, or SLIS. If using the Virtuoso SLIS module, see “1: SLIS Software Basic
Procedures” on page 3 for more information.

1: SLIS Software Basic Procedures
The Simple Laboratory Information System, or SLIS, is a functional module to manage cases, patients, clients, physicians, and
users that appear and are used within the Virtuoso software. The SLIS software is used to manage the Virtuoso software when there
is no interface with a laboratory information system.
Opening the SLIS Software
1. Open a supported Internet browser.
2. Type your SLIS URL (uniform resource locator, or web address) in the Address Bar.
For example: https://<host name>/:8080/slis. Where <host name> is the name of the machine on which the SLIS application
server is installed.
3. Press Enter.
The SLIS software is opened in your browser.
Logging into SLIS
1. In the SLIS Login Screen: Enter your User ID and Password.
2. Click the Login button. The SLIS home page is opened.
After logging into the SLIS software, do not use the browser Back button or the
Backspace key to navigate between windows or views.

search for slide images in a date range or type in text to search for slides with a matching image file label. Once the desired
thumbnail is located, drag the slide thumbnail to the row on the slide list on the left. The image file label is populated into the
list. Repeat these steps until all slides have an associated image file label. Select the Apply button in the upper left-hand corner

Delete a Case
Deleting a case in SLIS deletes the case in the Virtuoso software, but only if all specimens on the case have NOT been released in
the Virtuoso software. If this condition is met, then the case is deleted from the Virtuoso software.
You can also completely remove a case in the Virtuoso software even if it has a specimen already released, for example, if you have
some test cases that you need to delete prior to going into production. Or you may have entered the wrong data on a case and just
want to completely start over again and re-use the accession number.
CAUTION: The case is completely removed from both SLIS and the Virtuoso software. The delete is recorded in
the audit log including date, time stamp and user who did the deletion.
1. From within the Cases window, select an existing case from the Case List pane (see Figure 1-23).
