About this chapter
Read this chapter atten tively. It contains important information to prevent personal injury while installing your V4i series display.
Furthermore, it includes several cautions to prevent damage to the V4i series tile. E nsure that y ou understand and follow all safety
guidelines, safety instructions and warnings m entioned in this chapter before installing the V 4i series d isplay. After this chapter,
additional “warnings” and “cautions” are given depending on the installation procedure. Read and follow these “warnings” and “cau-
tions” as well.

1.1 Safety guidelines

Installation personnel
This installation must be performed by au thorized and qualied technical personnel only.
Accredited s afety ofcers must ens ure the safety o f the site, construction, assembly, c onnection, use, dismantling, transport etc. of
such saf e ty crit ica l sys tems.
Notice on safety
This equ ipment is built in accordance w ith the requirements of the international safety standards IEC60950-1, EN60950-1,
UL60950-1 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No.60950-1, which are the safety standards of information technology equipmen t including
electrical bus iness equipment. Thes e safety standards impose im portant requirements on the use of safety critical co mponents,
materials and insulation, in order to protect the user or operator against risk o f electric shock and energy hazard and having access
to live parts. Safety standards also impose limits to the internal and external temperature rises, radiation levels, mechanical stability
and strength, e nclosure cons truction and protection against the risk of re. Simulated single fault con dition testing ensures the
safety of the equipment to the user even when the equipment’s normal operation fails.
Caution
Installation should be performed only after you are thoroughly familiar with all of the prop er safety checks and installation instructions.
To do otherwise increases the risk of hazards and injury to the user.
Assembly parts are designed for intended use only in conjunction with V4i series LED displays.

Do not modify and/or replicate any com ponent. Barco uses spec ic m aterials and manufacturing processes in order to achieve part
strength. Consult Barco for assistance with c ustom applications.
Always follow Barco installation instructions. Contact Barco if you should have any question regarding the safety of an application.
The manufacturer assum es no liability for incorrect, inadequate, irresponsible or unsafe as sem bly of s ystem s. The s ystem must
comply with the local s afety regulations regarding environmental conditions, solidity nal construction, etc…
Product care
Structural & mounting components s hould be kept dry, clean, lubricated (only if recomm ended), coated pr
operly, and otherwise
maintained in a m anner consistent with part des ign. Barco produc ts must be used in a m anner consistent with their design and
inspected on a routine basis for security, wear, deform ation, corrosion and any other circumstances that may affect the load handling
capability o f the part.
Barco recommends inspections at regular intervals for a ll installations and increasing in frequency for more critical installations. If
a part is found to have damage, which m ay cause a de crease in load capability, the part must be removed for service o r replaced
immediately.
Under no circumstances are Barco parts repairable by any one other than Barco.
1.2 Important safety instructions

Clean only with materials or chem icals that are inert, nonab rasive, n oncorrosive and non-marking. Consult the manufacturer
for further advice should any doubts exist regarding any cleaning procedure.
Do not block ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
Do not install nea r any heat so urces s uch as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including ampliers) that
produce heat.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding type plugs/sockets. If the provided soc kets/plugs are damaged
then replacement of the defective parts must be undertaken immediately.
Protect the power/data cords from being walke d on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point
where they exit from the apparatus. Replace damaged power/data cords immediately.
Only use attachments/accessories specied by the manufacturer.
Disconnect the pow er to this apparatus during lightning stor
ms or provide suitable additional lightning protection. U nplug this
apparatus when unused for long period of time.
Refer all servicing to qualied ser vice technicians/personnel. Se rvicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in
any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damage d, the appa ratus d oes not opera te normally, or has been dropped.
Use only with systems or peripherals specied by the manufacturer, or s old with the apparatus. Use caution during lifting/moving
or transporting to a void damage by poss ible tipping.
Do not us e damaged goods. Rep lace d amaged parts immediately.
1.3 Important warnings
Important warnings:
Risk of electric shock:
Do n ot open. To reduce the r isk of electric shoc k, do not remove cov er (or back). No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing
to qua lied service personnel.
Maximum and minimum ambient tem perature:
The maximum ambient temperature for the LED wall is 40°C (104°F), t he minimum temperature is 0°C (32°F).
High leakag e curren t:
The com bination of multiple tiles in an installation r esults in increased levels of leakage current. In order to a void risk of electric
shock due to high leakage current, proper grounding o f the installation is required.
Risk of personnel injury:
Secure all tiles in the rack. As a supplementary safeguard, and in order to pro tect against the risk of pers onnel injury, each tile
should be attached to the rack by a safety ca ble.
Flammable materials:

Keep ammable m aterials away from the installation (such as curtains). A lot of energy is transferred into heat. Th e installation
should be such that the amount of air ow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised. Proper ventilation must
be provided.
Risk of electric sho ck / Risk of re:
To protect against risk of re caused by overloading of power c ables:
MAXIMU M 4 tiles may be connected in parallel in case of 110-180 VAC, 50-60Hz. Eac h power source cable supplying ma ximum
4 tiles should be protected by a circuit breaker or fuses r ated 16 A / 250 VA C (15 A / 250 VAC in the USA and Canada).
MAXIMU M 7 tiles may be connected in parallel in case of 180-240 VAC, 50-60Hz. Each power source cable supplying maximum
7 tiles should be protected by a circuit breaker or fuses r ated 16 A / 250 VA C (15 A / 250 VAC in the USA and Canada).
Note that one V4i series tile requires 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
Disconnect d evice:
When the appliance inlets of the individual tiles are not accessible, the sock et outlets s upplying the rack shall be installed near the
equipment and be easily accessible, or a readily acces sible general disconnect device shall be incorporated in the xed wiring.
This equipm ent MUST be earthed:
In order to protect against risk of electric shock, the installation should be p roperly grounded. Defeating the purpose of the gr ounding
type plug will expose you to the risk of electric shock.
Power sys tem:
It is recommended to use a TN-S power distribution system (a power distribution system with a separate neutral and grounding
conductor) in or der to avoid large ground current loops due to voltage differences in the neutral c onductor. The total electrical
installation should be protected by an appropriately rated disconnect switch, circuit breakers, over voltage protector and G round Fault
Current Interrupters. The installation shall be done according to the local electrical installation codes. In Europe special attention
should be given to HD 60364, H armonization Document for electrical installation of buildings. In G erm any VDE 0100 should be
adhered to. In Americ a, special attention should be given to the N ational Electrical Code, A NSI/N FPA 70.
Mains cords:
The power cords delivered with this s ystem ha ve special properties for safety. They ar e not user serviceable. If the power cords are
damaged, replace them only with new ones. Never try to repair a power cord.
Data cables:
The data c ables provided with this system have special properties for safety. T hey are not user serviceable. If the data cables are
damaged, replace them only with new ones . Never try to repair a data cable. Pe r requirements of the National Electrical Co de®
in the USA , the length of a data cable must not exceed 42 m (140 feet). Avoid exposure of data cables to accidental contact with
lightning or power conductors.
1.4 Proper usage
Proper usage of V4i series tiles
Shipping crates m ay be stacked to a max imum of 2 crates high.
No part of the V4i series tile can com e in contact with any type of abras ive.
No part of the V4i series tile c an com e in contact with any type of corrosive substance.
V4i series tiles are to be used in environments meeting the operating specications.
V4i series tiles are not to be exposed to extreme localized heat or cold exceeding the temperature specications.
V4i series tiles are not to be exposed to any elem ent or situation that will cause any part of the display to heat beyond what
occurs d uring normal operation. Such s ituations include (but are not limited to) lasers, ultrasonic vibration, or any type of
substance that prevents proper ventilation and heat radiation of the V 4i series tiles.
Power connected to the V4i series tiles must meet the specications outlined in the installation manual.
Never place a V4i series tile upon a surface with the LE Ds facing downwards. This to prevent damage to the LEDs and the
shaders.
No force can be applied to the LEDs. Any LE Ds damaged due to m echanical stress are not covered by the warranty.
Safety and functional features of the display c annot be defeated.
Any failures mu st be immediately and appropriately dealt with. Failing equipment should not be left on a wall.
Only Barc o cables specied to be used w ith the V 4i s
eries display are to be used to connect compon ents in an V4i series w all.
Furthermore, care must be taken to connect signals only according to the installation m anual.
V4i series tiles are not to be us ed in the vicinity of any equipment that is not CE and UL/ETL certied.
V4i series tiles are not to be connected to any non-Barco equipm ent.
V4i series tiles can be cleaned only in accordance to the procedures dened in the installation m anual.
The V4i series tile is equipped with two air lters. These lters must be replaced on a regular basis, depending on the environ-
ment conditions of the tile. It is recommende d to rep
lace the lters every 6 m onths or a shorter period, depending on the local
environment.
