About this chapter
Read this chapter attentively. It contains important information to prevent personal injury while installing the X-series d isplay. Fur-
thermore, it includes several cautions to prevent dam age to the X -se ries tiles. Ensure that you understand and follow all safety
guidelines, sa fety instructions and warnings mentioned in this chapter before installing the X-series tiles. After this chapter, addi-
tional “warnings” and “cautions” are given depending on the installation procedure. Read and follow these “warnings” and “c autions”
as well.
Clarification of the term “X-series” used in this document
When referring in this doc ument to the term “X-series” means that the content is applicable for following Barco products:

1.1 Safety g uidelines

Installation personnel
This installation must be performed by au thorized and qualified technical personnel only.
Accredited s afety officers must ens ure the safety of the site, construction, assembly, c onnection, use, disman tling, transport etc. of
such saf e ty crit ica l sys tems.
Notice on safety
This equ ipment is built in accordance w ith the requirements of the international safety standards IEC60950-1, EN60950-1,
UL60950-1 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No.60950-1, which are the safety standards of information technology equipment including
electrical bus iness equipment. These safety standards impose im portant requirem ents on the use of safety critical components,

materials and insulation, in order to protect the user or operator against risk o f electric shock and energy hazard and ha ving ac cess
to live parts. Safety standards also impose limits to the internal and external temperature rises, radiation levels, mec hanical stability
and strength, e nclosure cons truction and protection against the risk of fire. Sim ulated single fault con dition testing ensures the
safety of the equipment to the user even when the e quipment’s normal operation fails.
Caution
Installation should be performed only after you are thoroughly f amiliar with all of the proper safety chec ks and installation instructions.
To do otherwise increases the risk of hazards and injury to the us er.
Assembly parts are designed for intended use only in conjunction with X-series displays.
Do not modify and/or replicate any component. Barco uses spec ific m aterials and m anufacturing processes in order to achiev e part
strength. Consult Barco for assistance with c ustom applications.
Always follow Barco installation ins tructions. Contact Barco if you should have any question regarding the safety of an application.
The manufacturer assum es no liability for incorrect, inadequate, irresponsible or unsafe as sem bly of s ystem s. The system must
comply with the local safety regulations regarding environmental conditions, solidity final construction, etc…
Product care
Structural & mounting components s hould be kept dry, clean, lubricated (only if recommended), coated properly, and otherwise
maintained in a m anner consistent with part des ign. Barco products m ust be used in a m anner consistent with their design and
inspected on a ro utine basis for security, wear, deformation, corrosion and any other circumstances that may affect the load handling
capability o f the part.
Barco recommends inspections at regular intervals for a ll installations and increasing in f
requency for more critical installations. If
a part is found to have damage, w hich m ay cause a de crease in load capability, the par t must be rem oved for service or replac ed
immediately.
Under no circumstances are Barco parts repairable by any one other than Barco.
1.2 Important safety instructions
Instructions:
• Read these instructions.
• Keep these instructions.
• Heed all warnings.
• Follow all instructions.
• Clean only with materials or chemicals that are inert, nonabrasive, noncorrosive and non-marking. Consult the manufacturer
for further advice should any doubts exist regarding any cleaning procedure.
• Do not block ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
• Do not install nea r a ny heat sources s uch as radiators, heat registers, s toves, or other app aratus (including amplifiers) that
produce heat.
• Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding type plugs/sockets. If the provided sockets/plugs are damaged
then replacement of the defective parts must be undert
aken immediately.
• Protect the power/data cords from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, an d the point
where they exit from the apparatus. Replace damaged power/data cords immediately.
• Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
• Disconnect the pow er to this apparatus during lightning storms or provide suitable additional lightning protection. Unplug this
apparatus when unused for long period of time.
• Refer all s ervicing to qualified service technicians/pe
rsonnel. Se rvicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in
any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, the apparatus d oes not opera te normally, or has been dr opped.
• Use only with systems o r peripherals specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. Use caution during lifting/moving
or transporting to a void damage by poss ible tipping.
• Do not use dam aged LED tiles. Replac e da maged parts immediately. Ensure that the s pring of each locking mechanism (latch)
is functioning properly. If not, replace immediately.
1.3 Important warnings
Important warnings:
Risk of electric shock:
Do not open. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remov e LED board from tile. No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer
servicing to qualified service personnel.

Maximum and minimum am bient tem perature:
The maximum ambient temperature for the LED wall is 40°C (104°F), the m inimum temperature is 0°C (32°F).
X-series tiles have an internal temperature sensor that lowers the brightness of the tile when internal temper-
ature is too high. The brightness will return to normal when the internal temperature has cooled sufficiently.
Low Voltage Su rge Protection Device req uired
Due to the dam aging effects of lightning, utility switching and switching electric motors of other us ers on the m ains, this p roduct
needs to be protected by m eans of a Su rge P rotection Device. If this product is connected to the mains through the powe r box
from Barco this protection device is already inc orporated and no extra measures need to be taken. If this product is connec ted to
the m ains through a power distribution box from another party, please ve rify that a Low Voltage Surge Protection Device according
EN61643-11 or UL 1449 is in place.
High leakag e curren t:
The com bination of multiple tiles in an installation r esults in increased levels of leakage current. In order to avoid risk of electric
shock due to high leakage current, proper grounding o f the installation is required.
Flammable materials:
Keep flammable materials away from the ins tallation (such as curtains). A lot of energy is transferred into heat. The installation
should be such that the am ount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is n ot comprom ised. Proper ve ntilation must
be provided.
ESD and LED’s:
LED c ompon ents used in X-series tiles ar e ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) sensitive. To prevent the possibility of destroying LE D
components do not touch either in operation o r while switched off. Always use ESD- gloves.
Risk of electric sho ck / Risk of fire:
To protect against risk o f fire caused by overloading of powe r cables, the number of tiles connected in parallel is limited. See table
below.

Each power source cable should be protected by a circuit breaker or fuses rated 16 A / 250 VAC (15 A / 250 VAC in the USA and
Canada). Note that one tile requires 100-240 VA C, 16 A, 50-60 Hz, X2: 0.55 A at 230 VAC, X1.6: 0.85 A at 230 VAC
Disconnect d evice:
When the appliance inlets of the individual tiles are not accessible, the socket outlets supplying the r ack shall be installed near the
equipment and be easily ac cessible, or a readily acc
essible gen eral disconnect device shall be incorporated in the fixed wiring.
This equipm ent MUST be earthed:
In order to protect a g ainst risk of electric shock, the installation should be properly grounded. Defeating the purpose of the grounding
type plug will expose you to the risk of electric shock.
Power sys tem:
It is recommended to use a TN-S power distrib
ution system (a power distribution system with a separate neutral and grounding
conductor) in or der to avoid large ground current loops due to voltage differences in the neutral c onductor. T he total electrical
installation sh ould be protected by an appropriately rated disconnect switch, circuit breakers, over voltage pr otector and G round Fault
Current Interrupters. The installatio
n shall be done ac cording to the local electrical installation codes. In Europe special attention
should be given to HD 60364, H armonization Document for electrical installation of buildings. In Germany VDE 0100 should be
adhered to. In Americ a, special attention should be given to the National Elec trical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.
Mains cords:
The power cords delivered with this system ha ve special properties for safety. T hey are no t user serviceable. If the power cords a re
damaged, replace them only with new ones. Nev er try to repair a power cord.
LED ’s:
The LED’s used on the X-series tiles are fragile. Never push w ith a hard or sharp object onto the lens of the LED as this m ay cause
damage to the LE D. Th e maximum allowed
load upon the lens of the LED is 300 gram/LED. Be careful when installing a shader
upon the X-series tiles. Shaders only fit in one direction a nd this s hould be verified before pushing into final position. Use your ba re

fingers (not nails) to press the shader over the LED’s. Use your finger nails to press upon the fram ework of the shader between the
LED’s (not upon the LE D’s) to push the shader in its final position.
Do not hot plug:
Do not hot plug any cables. Damage to the connector pins may occur. Resulting damage is not covered u nder warranty.
Maximum allowed display height:
The maxim um height of a X-series display in a base stand configuration is 9 t iles X1.x or 10 tiles X2 . The maximum height of a
X-series display in a hanging (truss) configuration is 16 tiles.
1.4 Proper usage
Proper usage of X-series tiles
• No part of the X- series tile can c ome in contact with any type of moisture.
• No part of the X- series tile can c ome in contact with any type of abrasive.
• No part of the X-series tile can come in contact with any type of dus t.
• No part of the X-series tile can come in contact with any type of corrosive substance.
• Using the LED product in a n environment with high corrosive gasses (e.g. Sulphur) can lead to discoloration of the materials.
This discoloration gives a change in brightness of the produc t. T his could lead to uniformity differences and po ssibly also to
failures. Each use of the product in this kind of environment needs to be checked up-front with the supplier.
• X-series tiles are to be used in environments meeting the operating specifications.
• X-series tiles are not to be used in environments that are subject to airborne contaminants such as t hat produced by smoke
machines (cracked oil) or similar (these deposit a thin layer of greasy residue upon the LED’s optics, degrading performance).
• X-series tiles are not to be exposed to extreme localized heat or cold exceeding the t emperature specifications.
• X-series tiles are not to be exposed to any element o r situation that will ca use any par t of the display to heat beyond what o ccurs
during norm al operation. Such situations include but are not limited to lasers, ultrasonic vibration, o r any type of substance that
prevents proper ventilation and heat radiation of the X-series tiles.
• X-series tiles are not to be ex posed to circumstances where moisture can cond ense or c ollect on any comp onents.
• Power connected to the X-series tiles m ust meet the specifications outlined in the installation manual.
• Avoid any accidental bum ping of the tile corners while installing or r emov ing the X-se ries tiles. Since LED’s of the X-series tiles
are mounted near by the edges of the L ED boards, w hich is unavoidable in the design of a high resolution LED-wall, the corners
of the X-series tiles become sensitive for mec hanical damage. Because o f that it i
s required to handle the X- series tiles with
care at all times.
• Never place an X-series tile upon a surface with the LED’s facing downwards without protection. This to prevent damage to the
LED’s and the soft lens of the LED’s.
• While rem oving or installing the X-series tile always keep the LED side of the X-series tile parallel with the LED side of the
remaining neighboring X- series tiles. This to avoid any mechanical stress upo n the corners of the X-series tiles.
• No force can be applied to the LED’s. Any LED’s damaged due to mechanical stress are not covered by the warranty.
• Safety and functional features of the display cannot be defeated.
• It is not allowed to climb or hang any additional equipm ent o n the back of an X-series w a ll. Nothing is to be allowed to hang
from the cables of an X-series tile.
• Any failures must be im mediately and appropriately dealt with (equipment returned to Barc o). Failing equipment cannot be left
to run in a wall.
• No additional tools (h amm ers, pr y-bars, etc.) are to be used to force handles or locks into place. All moving parts should be
managed by hand.
• Only B arco cables specified to be used with the X-series display are to be used to connect components in the X-series w all.
Further, car e must be taken to connect signal only according to the
installation manual.
• X-series tiles are not to be used in the vicinity of any equipment that is n ot CE and UL/ETL certified.
• X-series tiles are not to be transported for any distance in containers other than custom flight cas es or Barco single unit or
multiple unit packaging. F urther, even the use of custom flight cases or packaging material does not guarantee the X-series
tiles against damage due to ex cessive force o f impacts. X -series packing m aterial c an be ordered at B arco. All war ranty claims
regarding damaged X-seriess due to inco rrect packing will be rendered invalid.
• X-series tiles are not to be connected to any non-Barco equipment.
• When hanging X-series tiles, only Ba rco X-series trusses can be used and they m ust be installed and connected according to
the manu al. Improper hanging of X-series tiles can result in excessive forces on the structural components of the X -series tiles.
• When stacking or hanging X -series tiles, the gu idelines outlined in the installation manual must be followed to prevent movement
of the display (including tipping). Further, X-series tiles are only to be installed ver tically. Any tipping of a display will cause
undue stress on the structural com ponents of the X -series tiles, and could even allow the X-series wall to fall.
• When stacking X- series tiles, X-series tiles can be stacked up to 2 tiles high before a Ba rco X-series stacker must be us ed.
• When reconnecting components in an X-series tile, ca re must be taken to ensure that cables are c arefully routed according to
the installation manual to prevent damage to the cables or other parts of the X-series tile.
• X-series tiles can be cleaned only in accordance to the p
rocedures defined in the installation manual.

• The X-s eries disp lay is an indoor product. Use the X-series tiles only in a dry ar ea away from direct sunlight, d ust a nd moisture.
Never install and use the X-series tiles in an outdoor environment.
• Ensure rigging hardware is able to handle the weight of the entire X-series with appropriate s afety factors.
• External rigging hardware must be properly installed prior to hanging X-series tiles.
• Do not hang more than 16 tiles (X2: 6.4 m ; X1.6 / X1.9: 7.2 m) tall with the integral rigging hardw are.
• Do no t stack m ore than 9 tiles X1.x or 10 tiles X2.
• Barco supplies a variety of stacking a nd hanging accessories for screens up to 16 tiles tiles hanging. Hanging displays > 6.4
m / 7.2 m tall require an auxiliary frame sys tem not supplied by Barco.
• Handle is intended for carrying a single tile only. Do not use for safety, tie-off, climbing, or lifting.
• The small holes on the X -series frame can be used as a safety attachment point.
