accountmustbewithaserviceproviderwhooffersHSDPA/
HSUPAorUMTSservice.(TheAirCardmodemisbackward
compatibleto2Gservice.)
Whenyouobtainyouraccount,
youaregivenaSIMcard,also
calleda“smartcard”or“smartchip”. (Dependingonhowyou
purchasedyourAirCardmodem,youmayalreadyhavean
account,andyourSIMcardmayhavebeenincludedinyour
package.)TheSIMcardcontainsaccountinformationand
mustbeinsertedinthe
AirCardmodemanytimeyouuseit.
Beforeyoucan usetheAirCardmodem,youmustinstallthe
AirCardmodemsoftwareandensurethatyourA irCard

OncetheAirCardmodemisinstalledand configured,youcan
connecttotheInternetwiththeAirCardmodemin

The SIM Card and Your Account
TouseyourAirCardmodem,youneedaGSMaccountanda
SIM(SubscriberIdentityModule)card.TheSIMcardisasmall
chip(aboutthesizeofapostagestamp) thatyouinsertintothe
AirCardmodem.TheSIMcontainsaccountinformationused
bythenetworktovalidateyouraccess.
Note: Without a valid SIM card
and a valid account, your
AirCard modem will not work.
DependingonhowyoupurchasedyourAirCardmodem,you
mayalreadyhaveanaccount.Inthiscase,theSIMshouldbe
includedinyourpackage.Otherwise,yourretailershould
directyoutoalocalcompanythatprovidesGSMservice.

Setting Internet Explorer to use
the AirCard modem
IfyouareusingInternetExplorerasyourbrowser,anditisset
toconnecttotheInternetthroughadialupmodem,youmust
setittouseaLAN(localareanetwork)card.
TosetInternetExplorerversion5or6touseaLAN,follow
thesesteps:
1. In
InternetExplorer,selectTools>Internet Options.
2. Clickthe
Connectionstab.
3. Click
SetuptoruntheInternetConnectionwizard.
4. Selecttheoption
I want to set up my Internet connection
manually, or I want to connect through a local area network
(LAN).
ClickNext.
5. Select
I connect through a local area network (LAN)”.Click
Next.
6. Ensurenocheckboxesareselectedinthe“Local area
networkInternetconfiguration”windowandclickNext.
7. Select
NowhenpromptedtosetupanInternetmail
accountandclick

Mostserviceprovidershaveoneortwostandardprofiles
that
allormostoftheirsubscribersareexpectedtouse.Mostof
thesestandardprofileshavebeenpredefinedinWatcher,
allowingyoutoselectastandardprofile,ratherthancreatingit
manually.
Oneofyourprofilesmustbesetasthe“default”profile.Thisis
theonethatis
usedifyouselecttheConnectbuttonwithout
selectingaprofile.Thedefaultprofileisalsousedifyousetthe
AirCardmodemtoautoconnect.IfyouareusingtheAirCard
modemtoaccessanetworkthatrequiresyoutoprovidea
passwordeachtimeyouconnect,youmustsettheconnection
modeforyourprofile
topromptforpassword(inwhichcase
youmustconnectmanually).
Setting up a profile
Note: You must install the
software before you can set up a
profile. (See page 11.)
1. InserttheSIMintotheAirCardmodemifitisnotalready
inserted.
2. InserttheAirCardmodemintothePC/ExpressCardslot
ifitisnotalready inserted.(See
page 13.)
3. IfWatcherisnotrunning,startWatcherbyselecting
Start > Programs > Sierra Wireless >3G Watcher > 3G Watcher
ordoubleclickingthedesktopshortcut .
IfWatcherdetectsthatnoprofilehasbeensetup,youare
prompted,“Wouldyouliketoconfigureaprofilenow?”

wiredLANcardprovides.Thatis,youcansetoptionsin
Watcher(aprogramthatcomeswiththe AirCardmodem)
thatcausestheAirCardmodemtoestablishanetwork
connectionwheneveryou
insertit,assumingGSM,GPRS,
EDGE,UMTS,orHSDPAserviceisavailable.Otherwise,you
canconfigureWatchertoconnectonlywhenyouclickthe
Connectbutton.
TheAirCardmodemconnectionprovidesaccesstothe
Internet.Oncetheconnectionisestablished,youcanopenyour
browserandconnecttoanywebsite

1. CloseWatcherifitisopen.
2. ClickthePCCardiconinthestatusareatodisplaythe
optiontostopthecard.
3. Clicktheappropriateoption,dependingonyouroperating
systemandthemodelofAirCardmodem.
4. Ifadialogboxappearsnotifyingyouthat
itissafeto
removethecard,click
OK.
5. PushthePCCardejectbuttonbesidethePC/Express
Cardslotonyourcomputertoejectthecard.
6. GrasptheAirCardmodemandremoveitfromtheslot.

3. Pressdowngently(withoutexcessiveforce)ontheeject
