Replacing the PanelMate Power Pro 5000 Color TFT Backlight Assembly,

Models 5585x, and Models 5285x

Introduction

The Backlight Replacement Kit provides replacement backlights for the PanelMate Power Pro 5000 Color TFT, models 5585x,

and models 5285x. This kit is shipped with two backlights, a disposable grounding wrist strap, and this instruction sheet.

Caution Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) can damage static-sensitive electronic components. You should perform these

procedures only at an ESD workstation.

If an ESD workstation is not available, you can provide some protection by wearing an anti-static wrist strap and

attaching it to a metal part of the system chassis.

Replacing the Backlights

The replacement backlights for PanelMate Power Pro 5000 Color TFT, models 5585x, and models 5285x are packaged and

sold separately from the PanelMate unit.

To install the backlight, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect the power source cable and any other cables from the PanelMate unit. If a high-speed interface module is

attached, remove the module.

2. Remove the electronics module cover by removing the screws holding it to the display plate assembly.

3. Disconnect the ribbon cable, and lay the cable flat.

4. Remove the standoffs, and screws from the display plate assembly connecting it to the front panel.

5. Carefully lay the display plate assembly, display module facing up, being especially careful not to damage the circuit

board.

6. Remove the four screws [1] on the corners of the display module [2], lifting the display module away from the display

plate assembly. See Figure 1.

7. Disconnect the video cable from the display module.

8. On the edge of the display module, disconnect the connectors [3] between the top and bottom backlight cartridges and

the inverter.
