Connected with the SensoLyt
SEA or SensoLyt
GDA
pH electrodes or the SensoLyt
PtA ORP electrode, the
SensoLyt
690 pH armature is suitable for mobile field use
and for on-line measurements.
General
30
A pre-amplifier integrated in the armature shaft converts the
high-impedance measuring signal of the electrode to a low-
impedance signal. This facilitates to transmit signals
interference-free even over greater distances.

The pH combined electrode is available as an accessory
(see chapter 5 S
PARE PARTS AND ACCESSORIES).
Shielding of the pH
electrode
Together with the corresponding WTW industrial monitor,
the pH electrode and the pH armature form a measuring
system which is screened to a high degree from low and
high frequency interferences as well as from lightning.

2 Safety
This operating manual contains basic instructions that you
must follow during commissioning, operation and
maintenance. Consequently, all responsible personnel must
read this operating manual before working with the
armature. The operating manual must always be available
within the vicinity of the armature.
Target group The pH armature was designed for use with online
instrumentation - mostly in waste water treatment plants.
Thus, we assume that, as a result of their professional
training and experience, the operators will know the
necessary safety precautions to take when handling
chemicals.
Safety instructions In the individual chapters of this operating manual, the
following safety instructions indicate different danger levels:
Danger
indicates notes that have to be exactly observed to avoid
possibly great danger for people.
Warning
indicates notes that have to be exactly observed to avoid
possible slight injuries or damage to your instrument or the
environment.
Further notes
Note
indicates notes that draw your attention to special features.
Note
indicates cross references to other documents, e. g.
operating manuals.

2.1 Authorized use
The technical specifications as given in chapter 7 TECHNICAL
DATA must be observed. Only the operation and running of
the armature according to the instructions given in this
operating manual is authorized. Any other use is considered
unauthorized.
2.2 General safety instructions
The armature left the factory in a safe and secure technical
condition.
Function and
operating safety
The smooth functioning and operational safety of the
armature can only be guaranteed if the generally applicable
safety measures and the specific safety instructions in this
operating manual are followed during operation.
The smooth functioning and operational safety of the
armature can only be guaranteed under the environmental
and electrical operating conditions that are specified in
chapter 7 T
ECHNICAL DATA.
The temperature specified for using the armature (chapter 7
T
ECHNICAL DATA) has to be observed. Protect your armature
especially against frost or overheating.
Warning
The armature is only allowed to be opened by personnel
authorized by WTW.

3.1 General instructions
Warning
The SensoLyt
®
690 pH armature must only be submersed
when connected to an electrode. When exchanging the
electrode make sure that no moisture penetrates the pH
armature.
When commissioning the armature, please observe:
l A plastic cap filled with KCI protects the top of the
electrode. It keeps the electrode active when it is stored
(or during longer measuring breaks).
When you want to measure you have to remove the cap.
l Observe the minimum immersion depth.
3.2 Commissioning
1 Screw off the protection hood.
Commissioning
34
2 Pull the stopper off the socket for the plug-in head.
3 Unscrew the protection cap from the electrode.
4 Screw the combined electrode into the socket.
Commissioning
35
5 Push the unit into the armature up to the stop.
6 Remove the watering cap for measuring.
7 Screw on the protection hood.

4 Maintenance and replacing the
electrode
Danger
Contact with the measuring solution can endanger the user!
Take protective measures suitable for the kind of measuring
solution (protective clothes, eye protectors etc.).
Warning
If the glass of the pH electrode is broken, the user is
endangered by the glass fragments!
Warning
For all maintenance work, disconnect the armature from the
instrument!
Note
Details on the maintenance of the combined electrode can
be found in the relevant operating manual.
If it is necessary to replace the electrode proceed as follows:
1 Screw off the protection hood.
Maintenance and replacing the electrode

3 Carefully pull out the electrode until the screw joint is
visible.
4 Unscrew the combined electrode from the socket.
Maintenance and replacing the electrode
39
5 Screw on the new electrode.
6 Push the unit into the armature up to the stop.
7 Remove the watering cap for measuring.
