2.0 INSTALLATION AND USE
2.1 BEFORE EACH WORK SHIFT inspect the installed equipment according to section 3.0 of this manual.
2.2 PLAN your system before installation. Consider all factors that will affect your safety during use of this
equipment. The following list gives important points to consider when planning your system:
A. ANCHORAGE: Select a rigid anchorage capable of supporting the loads. If anchoring to concrete it
should have a minimum strength of 3,000 psi.
B. AFTER A FALL: Any equipment which has been subjected to excessive impact forces or exhibits damage
as described in section 3.0, must be removed from service immediately and destroyed by the user, the
rescuer, or an authorized person.
2.3 SLAB MOUNT TO PARAPET WALL MOUNT
CONVERSION: The FlexiGuard™ Portable
Construction Guardrail can be used as a parapet
wall type installation or a slab type installation.
See Figure 2. In either conguration, the clamp
may be used on structures 6 inches to 24 inches
thick.
Step 1. Remove the nut, washers and bolt.
Step 2. Slide the Clamp Jaw Assembly off the
Stanchion Post.
Step 3. Rotate the Clamp Jaw Assembly 90°.
Step 4. Re‑assemble the Clamp Jaw Assembly
onto the Stanchion Post.
Step 5. Replace the Bolt, Washers, and Nut.
2.4 INSTALLATION:
Step 1. Don appropriate safety equipment for
working near a leading edge or other
fall hazard.
Step 2. Make sure the Clamp Jaw/Stanchion
Post combination is assembled in the
proper orientation for your application
(see section 2.3).
Step 3. Select appropriate locations along
the edge of the structure, not more
than 8 ft. apart on centers. See OSHA
1926.502.
Step 4. Make sure the Adjustment Screw is backed‑out
completely. Pull the detent pin out of the Adjustment
Bracket on the Clamp Jaw and adjust the Clamp Jaw
width to the rst setting wider than the structure
thickness and replace detent pin.
Step 5. Slide the Stanchion Clamp Jaw over the edge of the
structure and tighten the Fine Adjustment Screw
(see Figure 3) until it is tight (25 ft‑lbs max). Do
not over tighten. Over tightening may damage the
Adjustable Bracket.
Step 6. Place proper length rail material into the Rail
Brackets. The Rail Brackets have holes that allow
fastening the rails in place with a nail or screw. In
the slab mount conguration there is a hole in the
end of the Fixed Clamp Jaw that allows the use of
a fastener to secure the jaw in place. See Figure 3.
Secure the Fixed Jaw with a fastener if the clamping
surface is smooth (i.e., wood, smooth concrete).
Step 7. If the system is being used in a slab mount
application, a toe board must be fastened to the Toe
Board Mounts. See Figure 1.
