Making Enclosure Entries Using the Removable Gland Plate
The RAYCHEM NGC-UIT-ORD-12 controller must be mounted in a
nonhazardous indoor location. Choose a location indoors where
the controller will be protected from the elements and kept above
–40°F (–40°C) and below 149°F (65°C).
Install the enclosure using the four screws (not provided) in the
prepunched 8 mm (5/16-inch) mounting holes with centers as
shown below. If plastic plugs are in the mounting holes, remove
them. Make sure the rubber elastomeric washers (provided in the
RAYCHEM NGC-UIT-ORD-12 shipping box) are aligned to
seal around the mounting screws to maintain the
NEMA 12 and IP54 ratings.
The removable gland plate on the bottom edge of the enclosure
provides a location to feed wires through. The plate is attached
with eight screws. Unscrew these to remove the gland plate. You
can drill or punch holes appropriate for your application. There is
sufficient width for up to five 1/2-inch or M20 holes. Remove all
metal filings and dust from the gland plate before remounting. Take
care not to damage the gasket or the gland plate. You must secure
the gland plate ground wire to the chassis ground lug.
Follow electrical safety procedures when installing and maintaining the
NCG-UIT-ORD-12 unit, as line voltage is present inside.
FIRE Hazard: Do not mount the
NGC-UIT-ORD-12 in a hazardous
location.
IMPORTANT: The NGC-
UIT-ORD-12 is an electronic
unit. During installation, take
the following precautions to
avoid damage to its electronic
components.
Handle with care to avoid
mechanical damage.
Keep electronics dry.
Avoid exposure to static
electricity.
Avoid contamination with
metal filings, liquids, or other
foreign matter.
Take care to protect the
user interface board on the
enclosure door.
Use agency-approved conduit
bushings, adapters, and cable
glands to keep the enclosure
protected from dust and
fluids.

Use only copper conductors for field wiring. A close-up of the power
connection terminals is shown below. This connection energizes
the RAYCHEM NGC-UIT-ORD-12 electronics only; it does not provide
power to the heat tracing or contactor coils.
Note: If the RAYCHEM NGC-UIT-ORD-12 controller has a different
source of power than the heat tracing, it may be worthwhile to
install an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) so the unit can
continue to control and/or monitor the heat tracing in the event of a
localized power failure.
The NGC-UIT-ORD-12 can communicate with distributed control
systems (DCS) or other host computers through the remote
communication port.
Note: The above relays are shown
in the energized position without
an alarm condition.
The relay will change state
with an alarm condition or
loss of power.
The NGC-30-CRM/-CRMS and RMM2 communicate with the
NGC-UIT-ORD-12 over an RS-485 network, which may have a
total cable length of 4,000 ft (1,200 m).
The RS-485 communicating cable shall be a shielded, two
conductor (twisted pair) cable.
Relay 1 on the NGC-UIT-ORD-12 is factory-configured and wired for
Any Alarms”. It will energize a push to test light on the front of the
panel if any alarm occurs. Relay 1 was also wired to a common
alarm relay/terminal block for remote annunciation of “Any Alarms”.
The NGC-UIT has two other Form C alarm relays (Relays 2 and
3, configurable through the NGC-UIT program ) for external alarms.
Each relay can be connected to an annunciator light or distributed
control system. Each relay's contacts have been wired for the
NGC-UIT to a terminal block in the panel.
