1. Operation of X-ray devices
1.1 German X-ray Ordinance (RöV), Information on radiation protection
The following information refers to the operation of X-ray devices in the Federal Republic of Germany. In other
countries, the locally applicable regulations must be observed by the operator.
The METROTOM system fulfills the conditions of Annex 2, Item 3 of the RöV (X-ray Law); it thus complies with
the properties of a fully protected device.
Operation of the METROTOM must be approved in compliance with § 3 of the RöV.
In order to obtain an operating permit, the operator must do the following:
Have the METROTOM inspected by an authorized independent expert for technical inspections of X-ray systems.
Authorize a (local) radiation protection officer.
Submit an application for a permit to operate the system to the supervisory authority far enough in advance of the
beginning of operation. The components of the permit application include the result of the inspection performed by
the above expert, the personal data of the radiation protection officer, proof of his technical qualification and autho-
rization, etc.) as well as detailed information on the radiation protection organization.
The supervisory authority can stipulate further conditions which must be fulfilled as a prerequisite for the notice of ap-
proval.
According to § 18 of the RöV, the METROTOM must be inspected by an authorized expert after 5 years of operation at
the latest (recurring inspections).
The responsible supervisory authority of the relevant state is usually the Trade Supervisory Authority, the Occupational
Health and Safety Administration or the Regional Board.
United states
The system conforms to 21 CFR 1020.40
Typically, an x-ray system must be registered with the appropriate state agency. This registration must occur prior to the
x-ray system being placed into service. Regulations may require initial and periodic inspections by a government agency
or a qualified vendor. In addition, the regulations may require the implementation of standardized operating procedures,
specialized training and posting of radiation exposure warnings and other special notices. Radiation safety requirements
differ significantly from one jurisdiction to another. It is the users' responsibility to ensure that the x-ray system is installed
and operated in compliance with all applicable governmental regulations. Failure to comply may result in substantial pen-
alties.
Other countries
In other countries, the national regulations regarding x-ray protection must be observed.
It is advisable to report a planned installation to the supervisory authority in due time, i.e. 2 to 3 weeks in ad-
vance.

3. Preparations for installation / Electric power supply
Please make sure that the following preparations are made by the date of installation:
3.1 Preparation of required floor space
The floor space must be clean.
Maximum difference in level of the 4 seating surfaces:
4 mm
Maximum slope per contact surface: 1 mm/m
3.2 Electric power supply
We recommend connecting the system to an electric power line which is not used to supply any peak load equipment
(elevators, air conditioners, etc.). To prevent negative influences, avoid installing the CT scanner near:
systems with a high power consumption: (e.g. welding machines) and
systems that emit strong perturbing radiation: (e.g. electrical discharge machines).
The use of mobile telephones or walkie talkies within a radius of
3m around the machine also must be prohibited. If
properly enforced, these measures will help prevent malfunctions, especially in connection with the electronic data
processing systems.
A 5-pin CEE-form plug connection or an equivalent national plug or permanent connection is provided for the system (16
A). This connection must be protected with an automatic cutout. Alternatively, you can also use other protective devices
with an equivalent rating. It is recommended to install a lightning current arrester, e.g. Phoenix Flashtrab FLT 25-400, as
a coarse protection against overvoltages.
We recommend making the connection according to the following connection diagram, however, also would like to point
out that the pertaining national laws and regulations must be observed.
3.3 Electric power supply parameters
In order to ensure trouble-free data communication between the METROTOM and the data station, the power supply
should have the following parameters.

Warning !
This is a class A device, and may therefore cause radio interference in the surrounding area. In such cases, the operator
may be required to take appropriate action and bear any costs thus incurred.
3.5 Installing the Connecting Cables
The cables can be protected by installing them in an electric raceway included in delivery. This raceway can accommodate
all cables and must be fastened to the floor. Or, as an alternative, the cables may also be installed in an underfloor cable
duct.
3.6 Stabilization of the power supply
If brief fluctuations occur in the root mean square value of the line voltage, a line voltage analysis must be performed.
Contact us if you require this service. We will be glad to advise you and recommend suitable measures. A separate stub
cable from the main distributing frame to the connecting point of METROTOM is sufficient in most cases.

3.8 Teleservice
You will require an Internet connection for Teleservice. For more details, please refer to the "Teleservice" brochure.
3.9 Network topology
The networking of the system components is performed by the ZEISS service engineer according to the valid specifications
during initial startup. These settings must not be modified by the customer. Any change could result in connection prob-
lems.
3.10 Computer operating system
If the required computers are provided by the customer, the operating system used must not show any limitations in com-
parison to the one used by ZEISS. Otherwise problems and additional costs may occur during startup.

3.11 Compressed air supply
Please make sure that the compressed air supply required to operate the METROTOM is provided as follows:
Minimum pressure 6 bar, maximum pressure 10 bar.
Precleaned air; free of dirt particles, water residues and oil vapors.
Air quality according to ISO 8573 Part 1 Classification 4 including:
Sect. 6.1: Max. particle size 15 µm, max. dirt particle concentration 8 mg/m
3
Sect. 6.2: Max. dew point of compressed air = +3° C
Sect. 6.3: Max. oil concentration of 5 mg/m
3
If the above air quality is not attained, an additional air filtration unit and, if necessary, a membrane dryer must be con-
nected upstream. These units can be ordered from CZ; ask your contact man.
If the required air quality is not attained, this could cause damage not covered by the warranty.
Air consumption (rotary table):
Max. 15 l/min at 5bar (75 normal liters/min at 1 bar).
Connection point for compressed air
Our service engineer requires a connection point to connect the METROTOM to the compressed air supply. You should
provide this connection point as shown in the brochure. The machine-side connection (9x2.5) is provided for compressed
air hoses with an internal diameter of 9 mm. The air supply line from your connection to the connection point of the
METROTOM will be laid during installation.
If you do lay the air hose up to the machine, please make sure that the connection point is accessible. The air hose must
be laid in such a way that it is protected.
3.12 Unloading/Transport vehicles
The unloading and transport of packaged units may be performed only with hoisting rings or pallets; the insulated pa-
kkaging must not be damaged in the process. Please ensure that suitable transport vehicles operated by qualified
personnel are provided for unloading the crates and transporting them to their storage site. The type of transport vehicle
used depends on local conditions. The load carrying capacity of the transport vehicles is specified on the following pages.
Suitable transport vehicles include e.g.:
forklifts mobile cranes gantry cranes
Keep all transport paths free during installation to ensure a smooth workflow. Always remember that the CMM is a valu-
able, precision instrument and that jolting the crates or setting them down hard therefore must be avoided.
Transport locks, lashing straps, shipping crates and pallets must be returned.
Since packaging materials such as e.g. plastic foils or styrofoam chips are recycled by Zeiss, they can be returned
along with the transport locks if they are clean and no dirt or debris is mixed in with them.
3.13 Storage/Unpacking
If the outside temperature is <0°C, the machine assemblies are shrink-wrapped in aluminum-coated foil instead of a pro-
tective PVC wrapping, with a desiccating agent added (insulated packaging).
Please store the packed unit in a covered location as close as possible to the installation site.
Preliminary temperature adjustment:
Transport the assemblies no less than two days before our system specialist is due to arrive to a storage site with an am-
bient temperature of 15° C. The assemblies may be unpacked and the insulated packaging removed only by our sys-
tem specialist! Please provide an appropriate location for the empties.
