Aiwa HS-JX807D is a portable cassette player that offers a wide range of features to enhance your listening experience. Note on listening with the headphones

When listening to a tape recorded with Dolby B NR, press MODE/SET

to display ON.

To play back a Type 1(normal) tape, press MODE/SET to display NOR.

To play backType

11(high/Cr02) orType IV (metal) tapes, press MODE/

SET to display HI,

To obtain powerful heavy bass, press MODE/SET to display ON.

Reverse mode + @

To play back both sidee repeatedly, press MODELSET to display ~~.

To play back both eides once, press MODE/SET to display ~.

Playback stops at the end of the reverse side.

Blank skip + @

To skip a section longer than 12 seconds, press MODE/SET to display

ON.

In this case, the section is automatically fast forwarded and playback

resumes from the beginning of the next recorded section.

FM mode+@

When the FM stereo signal is weak, press MODELSETto display MONO.

Cassette tape

● Take up any slack in the tape with a pencil or similar tool before use.

Slack tape may break or jam in the mechanism. +

● C-100 or longer tapes areextremely thin and easily deformed or damaged.

They are not recommended.

USING ON RECHARGEABLE BATTERY+ ❑

When using the rechargeable battery for the first time, charge it as follows.

On AC 220-230 V Charge it for about 2 hours.

On AC 115 V Charge it for about 5 hours.

1 Insert the battery Into the battery charger.

2 Recharge the battery.

Plug the charger into a wall outlet to recharge the battery.

After recharging, remove the battery from the battery charger and

disconnect the charger from the wall oullet.

3 Insert the battery into the battery compartment with the 0 and 0

marks correctly aligned.

Playback and recording times may vary according to the conditions of use.

● Recharge when the OPE/BATl indicator goes out or the operation stops

after a beep sound is heard.

If the cover of the battery compartment comes off--+ ❑

Insert a casaette.

Slide OPEN A to open the cassette holder, and insert a cassette.

Press 4> REPEAT.

Playback starts from the front side.

Ad]uat the volume.

Note on rechargeable battery

● Use only the supplied battery charger to recharge the supplied

rechargeable battery.

● Do not charge for more than 24 hours.

● The battery can be recharged approximately 500 times. When operation

time becomes noticeably shorter, replace with anew one. Please contact

your Aiwa dealer.

After setting the VOLUME control of tha main unit to around 6 to 8,

adjust the VOL control of the remote control.

Note

After you press a button, if a beep sound is heard and then operation does

not start, check to see that the battery does not wear out.

Music sensor function

You can search for the beginning of a track if there is a 4-second or longer

blank between tracks.

To locate the beginning of the current or previous track, press REW

up to 5 times during playback.

To locate the succeeding tracks, press FF up to 5times during playback.

To repeat a track (One track repeat)

If there is a 4-second or longer blank between the tracks, you can play

back the current track repeatedly.

Keep 4> REPEAT pressed during playback for 2 seconds.

To cancel, press +> REPEAT.

Note

The music sensor, one track repeat and blank skip functions may not work

properly in the following cases:

● when the recording level of the tape is low;

● when operations are performed around the blank section.

To repeat a 5-second phraae

Press PHRASE on the main unit during playback. The tape is rewound to

a point approximately

●5 seconds before the point where the button was

pressed and playback resumes automatically.

● The time may vary according to the playback point of the tape when the

button is pressed.

Tape direction memory

● You can check the tape direction in the display.

stop the tape. However, playback starts from the front side of the tape

after:

. The cassette holder is opened.

● The rechargeable battery or dry cell battery is removed.

Caution

Do not attempt to open the cassette holder forcibly if it cannot be opened.

This may result in the unit being broken. To open the holder, recharge the

rechargeable battery or replace the dry cell battery with a new one.

USING ON DRY CELL BATTERY+ ❑

Insert an R6 (size AA) dry cell battery with the o and 0 marks

correctly aligned.

Battery replacement

Replace the battery when the OPEIBATT indicator goes out or the operation

stops after a beep sound is heard.

Note on dry cell battery

● Make sure that the ~ and O marks are correctly aligned.

● To prevent the risk of electrolyte leakage or explosions, never recharge

the battery, apply heat to it, or take it apart.

● When not using the battery, remove it to prevent needless battery wear.

● If liquid leaks from the battery, wipe thoroughly to remove.

Using on AC house current

Contact your Aiwa dealer and purchase an AC adaptor. Connect the plug

of the AC adaptor to the DC 1.5 V jack on the main unit and to a wall outlet.

Radio broadcasts have different frequency ranges and change in different

steps in different countries.

This unit has three world reception areas: “L15H (North and South

America) ”,” JPH (Japan)”, and” EU (other areas)”.

1 Release HOLD.

2 Press RADIO ON/BAND repeatedly to select AM, FM1 or FM2.

FM1 and FM2 have the same frequency range. Both can be used to

tune in to an FM station.

3 Press TUNING UP or DOWN to tune in to a station.

After listening, press

■ RADIO OFF.

For quick tuning

Keep TUNING UP or DOWN pressed for f -2 seconds.

When a station is tuned in to, the frequency indicator stops automatically.

However, it may not stop if the broadcast signal is weak.

For better reception -+

FM: The headphone cord functions asthe FM antenna. Keep it extended.

AM: Turn the unit to find the position which gives the best reception.

The reception area is factory-set to “ EU”. Select” _lPH” to listen to the

radio in Japan, select “u5Ff” to use in North and South America.

Seleciing a reception area

1 Relaase HOLD.

2 Press RADIO ON/BAND to turn on the radio.

3 While pressing MODE/SET, keepTUNING UP pressed for 2

seconds

within 1 second.

You can preset up to 10 stations on each band (AM, FM1, FM2).

1 Releasa HOLD.

2 Press RADIO ON/BAND to turn on the radio.

3 Press MENU repeatedly until “Auto” is displayed.

4 While “Auto” is dieplayed, press MODEJ3ET.

The unit searches for and memorizes the receivable stations.

Auto presetting ends after 10 stations are preset on each band,

After Iiatening, press

■ RADIO OFF. If you do not press it, the preset

stations may not be retained correctly.

If flashing stops during operation

Repeat the procedure from step 3.

If there ia a station you wish to skip during presetting

When a station is tuned in, scanning stops and the tuned station is heard

for 3 seconds. Press MODELSET within these 3 seconds to skip this station.

● You can record on both sides of the cassette continuously from the front

side to the reverse side.

Insert a caasette.

To record on both sidas continuously, insert the cassette with the

side to be recorded first facing the cassette holder.

To record on onfy one aide, inserfthe cassette with the recording side

facing inside of the unit. Then, press

Tune into a station.

To record from the microphone+@

Connect the supplied microphone to the MIC jack and orient it to the

sound source. Fix the microphone with attached clip ~.

Keep the REC switch slid for 1 second while pressing the red button

When broadcast signals are very weak, stations cannot be preset

automatically. Preset them manually.

Manual presetting -+ ❑

Youcan preset up to 10 stations under each preset number (1-1O)on each

band (AM, FM1 and FM2).

1 Tune in to a station.

2 Keep MODE/SET pressed for about 1 sacond until “PRESET’’flashes

in the dispfay.

3 Press PRESET -k or -

repeatedly to select the preset number

while “PRESET” is flashing.

4 Press MODE/SET while “PRESET” is ffashing.

To preset more stations, repeat the procedure from the beginning.

Set OSC to the position which gives the least noise,

If a high-pitched sound is heard while recording from the microphone

Move the headphones and the microphone farther apart, or reduce the

To change the recording side while listening to the radio

Keep

■ RADIO OFF pressed for more than 2 seconds.

Note

● Adjusting the volume and the DSL do not affect the recorded sound.

● Use Type I (normal) tape for recording. If you use Type IV (metal) or

Type 11(High/CrOz) tapes, sound that has been already recorded may

not be erased completely.

● You cannot record on side whose erasure prevention tab is broken off. If

you start recording side A on a cassette whose tab for side B has been

broken off, recording will stop at the end of side A.

Deleting preset stations

1 Select the preset number you wieh to delete.

2 Whila prassing MODEA3ET, keep TUNING DOWN pressed within 1

second until the preset number goas out.

To delete more preset stations, repeat the procedure from the beginning.

MAINTENANCE -+ ❑

To clean the head and the tape path

After every 10 hours of use, clean the head and the tape path with a

commercially available head cleaning cassette. For details, refer to the

operating instructions of the head cleaning cassette. After cleaning the

head and the tape path, wait until cleaned parts dry bafore inserting tapes.

To clean the cabinet

Use a sofl clothlightlymoistened witha mild detergentsolution.

Do not use strongsolventssuch as alcohol, benzine or thinner.
