1. Important information for the installation of the Nokia hands-free facility
Only for use within the BMW dealer organisation.
The Nokia hands-free facility may only be installed by a specialist workshop that has the
required special tools and manuals (servicing, repair, diagnostics, etc.).
Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car.
Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.
Item numbers refer only to the overview drawings and to the texts next to the
appropriate figure.
The hands-free facility is only functional when the ignition key is in position ”R” or beyond
on cars that have the SA 677 Professional (DSP) hi-fi system.
The adapter cable kit must also be ordered separately for cars with SA 640 telephone
preparation using the electronic parts catalogue (EPC).

The adapter wiring harness A, the aerial adapter cable B, the mobile phone holder connection
cable C and the telephone adapter cable D are to be installed as shown in the figure and
secured with cable ties.
When installing the adapter wiring harness A and the aerial adapter cable B, start with
branches A1 and A2 or B1.
Branches A1 and A2 to the centre console on the right near the heating duct
Branches A3, A4 and A5 along the gearbox tunnel within the centre console to the
installation location of the hands-free facility control module behind the glove compartment
Branch B1 to the centre console on the right near the heating duct
Branch B2 to the footwell on the passenger side
Branch C1 to the installation location of the hands-free facility control module behind the
glove compartment
Branch C2 to the footwell on the passenger side
Branches D1 and D2 to the cigarette lighter plug connector X531 under the centre console
insert with trim
Branch D3 on the right near the heating duct
Tie back any excess lengths.

The adapter wiring harness A and the mobile phone holder connection cable C are to be
installed as shown in the figure and secured with cable ties.
When installing the adapter wiring harness A, start with branches A1 and A2.
Branches A1 and A2 to the centre console on the right near the heating duct
Branches A3, A4 and A5 along the gearbox tunnel within the centre console to the
installation location of the hands-free facility control module behind the glove compartment
Branch C1 to the installation location of the hands-free facility control module behind the
glove compartment
Branch C2 to the footwell on the passenger side
Tie back any excess lengths.

Cars without a sunroof only
Release the microphone trim (30) from the
hands-free facility frame (31) in the headlining
(32).
Pull the black 3-pin socket casing (33) out
through the opening (34) in the headlining (32)
connect it to the black 3-pin plug casing of the
microphone (8).
Clip the microphone (8) into the microphone trim
(30).
Refer to the direction of the arrows on the
microphone trim (30) and microphone (8) (the
arrows must point to the front of the car).
Then secure the microphone trim (30) in the
hands-free facility frame (31) in the headlining
(32).

Cars with a sunroof only
Release front headlining trim (30) from the
headlining (31).
Pull the black 3-pin socket casing (32) out
through the opening (33) in the headlining (31)
connect it to the black 3-pin plug casing of the
microphone (8).
Clip the microphone (8) into the microphone trim
(34).
Refer to the direction of the arrows on the
microphone trim and microphone (8) (the arrows
must point to the front of the car).
Then secure the front headlining trim (30) in the
headlining (31).

Release the 3-pin socket casing (30) on the
cigarette lighter plug connector X531.
Disconnect the existing socket contact (31) from
slot PIN 2, red/black/yellow cable on the white 3-
pin socket casing (30) on the cigarette lighter
plug connector X531.
Connect branch D2, 1-pin socket contact,
red/black/yellow cable on the telephone adapter
cable D, to the white 3-pin socket casing (30) on
the cigarette lighter plug connector X531 in the
released slot PIN 2.
Connect the black socket casing (13) to the
released disconnected socket contact (31) and
connect this assembly to branch D1, black 1-pin
plug casing, red/black/yellow cable on telephone
adapter cable D.
Then secure the white 3-pin socket casing (30)
again and insert the 5 A fuse (12) into the fuse
holder (32).
8. To install and connect the adapter cable in cars with SA 640 telephone
preparation

Thread the black 18-pin socket casing X4545B,
black 6-pin socket casing X4546B and the
coaxial plug casing mini UHF (30) on the
telephone wiring harness (31) through the
opening (32) towards the front (on the right near
the heating duct (33).

Dismantle the black 18-pin socket casing
X4545B on the tied back telephone wiring
harness (30).
Connect branch D3, 1-pin blade terminal
contact, red/yellow cable on telephone adapter
cable D, to slot PIN 10 on the black 18-pin
socket casing X4545B.
If slot PIN 10 on the black 18-pin socket casing
X4545B is already occupied the existing blade
terminal contact (31) must be taken out of slot
PIN 10 on the black 18-pin socket casing
X4545B, the contact part cut off and the free
cable end insulated with a shrink hose (this is
no longer required).
Then assemble the black 18-pin socket casing
X4545B again.

Press the centre console (30) outwards a little
from the inside and thread branches A1, black
18-pin plug casing, A2, white 6-pin plug casing
on adapter wiring harness A and B1, coaxial
socket casing mini UHF on the aerial adapter
cable B, through it.

8. To install and connect the adapter cable in cars with SA 640 telephone preparation
Connect branch A1, black 18-pin plug casing on
the adapter wiring harness A to the black 18-pin
socket casing X4545B on the telephone wiring
harness (30).
Connect branch A2, white 6-pin plug casing on
the adapter wiring harness A to the black 6-pin
socket casing X4546B on the telephone wiring
harness (30).
Screw branch B1, coaxial socket casing mini
UHF on the aerial adapter cable B to the coaxial
plug casing mini UHF (31) on the telephone
wiring harness (30).
Then lay the adapter wiring harness A with
branches A3, A4 and A5 along the gearbox
tunnel (32) within the centre console (33) to the
installation site for the hands-free facility control
module behind the glove compartment and lay
the aerial adapter cable B with branch B2 along
the gearbox tunnel (32) within the centre console
(33) to the right-hand footwell.
Affix the protective strip (14) to the cable so
that the plug connections (A1 + X4545B), (A2 +
X4546B) and (B1 + 31) are enclosed in it.
When refitting the centre console insert,
ensure that the plug connections and the cables
are not jammed or damaged.
The figure shows the luggage compartment
at the rear left.
Release the tied back telephone wiring harness
(30) and remove the protective strip.
Check whether the coaxial plug casing mini UHF
(31) and the coaxial socket casing mini UHF (32)
are screwed together.
If this is not the case make this connection.The
black 3-pin socket casing (33) on the tied back
telephone wiring harness (30) is only required if
you are fitting a cable compensator.
The black 26-pin socket casing X695B on the
tied back telephone wiring harness (30) is not
required.
Affix the protective strip (10) to the cable so
that it encloses the plug connections (31 + 32),
the black 26-pin socket casing (X695B) and the
black 3-pin socket casing (33).
Then tie back the telephone wiring harness (30)
again.

Connect branch A1, black 18-pin plug casing on
the adapter wiring harness A to the black 18-pin
socket casing (30) on the basic kit retrofit wiring
harness.
Branch A2, white 6-pin plug casing on the
adapter wiring harness A is not required.
Affix the protective strip (14) to the cable so
that the plug connections (A1 + 30) and branch
A2 are enclosed in it.
Lay the adapter wiring harness A with branches
A3, A4 and A5 along the gearbox tunnel (31)
inside the centre console (32) to the installation
site of the hands-free facility control module
behind the glove compartment and secure it with
cable ties.

Mark the hole (30) through which to thread the
connection cable from the mobile phone holder
with dimension A on the telephone console (23).
Dimension A = 70 mm
Predrill the hole with a Ø 6 mm twist drill bit and
then enlarge it with a Ø 20 mm step drill.

Align the mounting plate (3) in the centre so that
the 20 mm hole (30) you have just drilled is half
covered.
Mark the four securing holes (31) and remove the
mounting plate (3) again.Then drill the marked
securing holes (31) in the telephone console with
a 2.4 mm twist drill bit.

10. To install the mobile phone holder with connection cable on the telephone
console

Push branch C1, transparent 15-pin plug casing,
Western plug, and branch C2, coaxial plug
casing FME, on the mobile phone holder C
through the hole (30) in the telephone console
(23).
Secure the mounting plate (3) on the telephone
console (23) using the four fillister head self-
tapping screws 2.9 x 16 (16) and secure the
module phone holder with connection cable (1)
to the mounting plate (3) using the pan head
screw M4 x 15 (6).
Then secure the cover cap for the mobile phone
holder (4) on the mobile phone holder with
connection cable (1).

Align the connection cable on the mobile phone
holder C, as shown in the figure, and secure it to
the telephone console (23) using textile adhesive
tape (30).

Lay branch C1, transparent 15-pin plug casing
on the connection cable C, behind the glove
compartment to the installation location of the
hands-free facility control module.
Screw branch C2, coaxial plug casing FME on
the connection cable C to branch B2, coaxial
socket casing FME on the aerial adapter cable B
or, on cars without SA640 telephone preparation,
to the coaxial socket casing FME (30) on the
basic kit retrofit wiring harness.
Affix the rattling guard (14) on the cable so
that it encloses the screw connection C2 + B2 or
C2 + 30.

Clean (degrease) the hands-free facility
control module (2) before affixing the Dual
securing strips.
Cut the 300 mm length of fine Dual securing
strip (18) into two lengths of 100 mm (the rest is
not required).
Affix the two cut lengths of fine Dual securing
strip (18) (100 mm) on to the hands-free facility
control module (2) as shown in the figure.

Cut the 300 mm length of coarse Dual securing
strip (17) into two lengths of 100 mm (the rest is
not required).
Press the two cut lengths of coarse Dual
securing strip (17) on to the two lengths of fine
Dual securing strip (18) affixed to the hands-free
facility control module (2).

Connect branch C1, transparent 15-pin plug
casing, Western plug, on the mobile phone
holder with connection cable to the grey 15-pin
socket casing (30) on the hands-free facility
control module (2).
Connect branch A3, 2-pin pawl plug with a
diameter of 2.5 mm on the adapter wiring
harness A, to the grey socket casing with a
diameter of 2.5 mm (31) on the hands-free facility
control module (2).
Connect branch A4, 2-pin pawl plug with a
diameter of Ø 3.5 mm on the adapter wiring
harness A, to the grey socket casing with a
diameter of Ø 3.5 mm (32) on the hands-free
facility control module (2).
Connect branch A5, white 6-pin socket casing
on the adapter wiring harness A, to the white
6-pin plug socket casing (33) on the hands-free
facility control module (2).
Then press the cover cap for the hands-free
facility control module (5) on to the hands-free
facility control module (2) and remove the
backing foil (34) from the coarse Dual securing
strip (17) on the hands-free facility control
module (2).

Push the connection cable C and the adapter
wiring harness A behind the centre console (30)
and install the front right centre console trim
(31).
Before affixing the hands-free facility control
module (2) on to the relay holder (30), clean
(degrease) the relay holder (30).
Affix the connected hands-free facility control
module (2) on the relay holder (30) in the
direction indicated by the arrow, in the centre
(right at the front), as shown in the figure.
Lay the connection cable C and the adapter
wiring harness A and secure them with cable
ties (15).

13. To prepare and install the right-hand footwell trim

Affix the spacer sleeves (19) to the right-hand
footwell trim (30) using double-sided adhesive
tape.
Place a speed nut M5 (21) on the relay holder on
the left in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Place another speed nut M5 (21) on the air duct
(31) on the control module box on the right in the
direction indicated by the arrow.

Secure the right-hand footwell trim (30) with the
two hexagonal screws and washers M5 x 30 (20)
through the affixed spacer sleeves to the

rivets with which the right-hand footwell trim (30)
was originally secured are no longer required.
Then clip the right-hand footwell trim (30) to the
heating duct (31) and secure it with the self-
tapping screw (32).

If the right-hand footwell trim (30) is fitted with a
footwell light (31) or the preparation (32) for
installing a footwell light, the damping strip (22)
must be affixed over this as shown in the figure.
