5. When operating the tool outdoors, only use extension cables suitable for outdoor use. Check the
extension cable for necessary markings for outdoor use.
6. An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. In such case, make sure that
the extension cord and plug match the tool cord and plug by type, size, shape and other qualifi-
cations and that it is properly wired and in good condition. Do not use extension cord with di-
ameter smaller than 2,5 mm2 or length longer than 20 m, otherwise the motor may be damaged.
Personal safety
1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the tool. Do not use
the tool while you are tired, sick or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication. A mo-
ment of inattention may result in serious personal injury. Children or disabled people are not al-
lowed to use the tool.
2. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye and ear protection. Also dust mask, non-
skid safety shoes and head protection must be used when necessary.
3. Avoid unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before plugging it in. Do
not needlessly hold your finger on the switch, especially when carrying the tool because this
could cause dangerous situations.
4. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches before turning on the tool.
5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables you to better con-
trol the tool in unexpected situations.
6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery that could get caught up by moving
parts. Long hair should be tied up.
7. If the tool can be connected to a dust extraction or collection facilities, ensure that they are
properly connected and used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
Use and maintenance
1. Do not force the tool. Choose correct tool according to work to be done. The tool will do the job
better and safer at the rate for which it was intended.
2. Do not use the tool if the switch does not turn it on or off. A power tool that cannot be con-
trolled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired immediately.
3. Place the switch to off-position and disconnect the plug from the power source before making
any adjustments, changing accessories or storing the tool. This will prevent the tool from start-
ing accidentally.
4. Store idle tool out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the tool or
these instructions to operate it. The tool is very dangerous in the hands of an untrained user.
5. Maintain the tool with care. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of
parts and any other condition that may affect the machine operation and safety. If you notice
any damages in the tool, have it repaired in an authorized service center before use. Many acci-
dents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
6. Keep blades sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less
likely to bind and are easier to control.
7. Use the tool and accessories in accordance with these instructions taking into account the work-
ing conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the tool for operations different from those
intended is dangerous and strictly forbidden.

SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR JIG SAW
WARNING: Before connecting a tool to a power source, be sure that the voltage supply is the
same as that specified on the nameplate of the tool. A power source with a voltage greater than that
specified for the tool can result in serious injury to the user, as well as damage to the tool. Using a
power source with a voltage less than the name plate rating is harmful to the motor. If in doubt, do
not plug in the tool.
Your tool is double insulated for additional protection against a possible electrical insulation failure
within the tool.
Always switch off and unplug the tool from power supply before making any adjustments or
maintenance, including changing the blade.
1. Ensure that the lighting is adequate.
2. Do not use the saw unless the guards are in place.
3. Keep the shoe plate on the workpiece.
4. Do not put pressure on the saw, such that it slows the motor down. Allow the saw blade to cut
without pressure. You will get better results and you will be taking better care of your tool.
5. Keep the area free of tripping hazards.
6. Do not let anyone under 18 years operate this jig saw.
7. Only use blades in good condition.
8. Before cutting, check that there is sufficient clearance for the blade under the workpiece.
9. Do not touch the blade after operation. It will be very hot.
10. Keep your hands away from under the workpiece.
11. Never use your hands to remove sawdust, chips or waste close by the blade.
12. Rags, cloths, cords, strings and similar should never be left around the work area.
13. Avoid cutting nails. Inspect the workpiece and remove all nails and other foreign objects before
beginning sawing.
14. Support the work properly.
15. Never reach over the blade to remove waste or off cuts.
16. Do not attempt to free a jammed blade before first switching off the machine.
17. If you are interrupted when operating the saw, complete the process and switch off before look-
ing up.
18. Periodically check that all nuts, bolts and other fixings are properly tightened.
19. Do not store materials or equipment above a machine in such a way that they could fall into it.
20. Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cut-
ting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cable. Cutting accessory contacting a “live”
wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an
electric shock.
21. Do not secure the jig saw upside down in a vice or work bench and use it as a saw bench. This
can lead to serious injury.
22. When using the jig saw, use safety equipment including safety goggles or shield, ear defenders,
dust mask and protective clothing including safety gloves.
23. This tool is intended for cutting wood, metal and plastic with blade acting in a reciprocating or
oscillating motion.
24. Even when the tool is used as prescribed it is not possible to eliminate all residual risk factors.
The following hazards may arise in connection with the tool’s construction and design:
- Damage to hearing if effective hearing protection is not worn.
- Contact with the blade.
- Reaching under the base whilst the tool is running and making contact with the blade.
- Kickback of the workpiece and parts of the workpiece.
- Hand-arm vibration syndrome if the tool use is not adequately managed.
20
5. Connect to a power source and run the saw under no-load to check that it runs smoothly be-
fore using it to cut any materials.
NOTE: If the blade is difficult to release using the blade changing control, lightly tap the end of
the blade with a hammer or similar. This will free the blade which can then be released as before,
using the blade changing catch.
Removing the blade
1. Turn the tool upside so you can access the jig saw blade.
2. Loosen the two hex screws which are on the blade clamp by using the hex key.
3. Remove the blade by pulling it out the base of the jig saw.
Angle adjustment
The jig saw shoe can be angled to enable bevel or chamfer cuts. There are preset bevel detents at 0°
and 45° for quick adjustment.
WARNING: Always ensure the tool is switched off and the plug is removed before making any
adjustments or maintenance procedures.
1. With the jig saw upside down on a solid surface use the hex key,
stored at the base of the power cord, to loosen the hex screw securing
the blade guide assembly and the shoe plate.
2. Move the shoe plate slightly back. It can now be tilted to the required
angle between 0° and 45° using the angle scale on the shoe plate.
3. Slide the shoe plate until the blade guide rests against the back of the blade.
4. Re-tighten the hex screw.
For accurate work it is necessary to do a practice cut first. Check the cut and reset the angle until the
correct cut is achieved.
The blade guide supports the blade when cutting and must always rest against the back of the blade.
Dust extraction
The dust extraction outlet allows a dust extraction system to be fitted to
the jig saw permitting the efficient removal of dust whilst the tool is in
use. The adaptor allows a standard household vacuum cleaner to be
connected to the outlet.
WARNING: Do not use a dust extraction system or a vacuum cleaner
when cutting metal. Sparks may ignite residual wood dust.
Switching on and off
The tool is started by squeezing the On/Off trigger switch. Release the
trigger to stop the tool.
If you press the lock-on button while the trigger switch is depressed, the
switch is kept in the operating position. To release the lock-on button,
press and release the trigger switch.
CAUTION: Allow the blade to come to a complete standstill before set-
ting the jig saw down.
The lock-on button allows the operator to keep the jig saw motor running without continuously
pressing the switch. It is useful when operating the tool for extended periods.
Speed controller
Adjusting the speed to suit the application enhances cutting perfor-
mance and saves the blade from undue wear.
To determine optimum cutting speed first perform test cuts on offcuts
of the workpiece to be cut.
21
Rotate the speed controller, located at the back of the jig saw to set the blade speed.
Position “1” denotes the lowest speed.
Position “6” denotes the highest speed.
Pendulum lever
The pendulum lever has four positions. The 0 position selects normal
cutting without pendulum action. The positions 1, 2 and 3 cause the
blade to swing slightly backwards and forwards as it cuts. This pendu-
lum action increases the efficiency of cutting. Set the pendulum lever
to one of the three settings (1, 2 or 3) according to degree of pendulum
action required. Experiment on a piece of scrap material to determine
the optimum pendulum action setting for the material of the work
piece.
Laser beam
WARNING: Before proceeding to use the laser line system, ensure
that the chapter “Specific safety instructions for laser light is read
and fully understood.
Push the laser On/Off switch down to turn on the laser.
Push the laser On/Off switch again to turn off the laser.
Always ensure the laser beam is aimed at a sturdy workpiece without reflective surfaces, i.e.
wood or rough coated surfaces are acceptable. Bright shiny reflective sheet steel or similar is not
suitable for laser use as the reflective surface could direct the beam back at the operator.
General cutting
Ensure that the blade is the correct type for the application and that the length extends through
the workpiece on the upstroke of the cut.
1. Make the required adjustments.
2. Switch on the jig saw and allow the blade to reach maximum speed.
3. Slowly guide the jig saw forward, building up speed as you go, with one hand on the handle
and the other on the scrolling knob, keeping the shoe plate at against the workpiece.
4. Do not force the jig saw.
5. Use only enough pressure to keep the blade cutting. Do not force the cutting, allow the blade
and the saw to do the work.
Metal cutting
1. When cutting metal, ALWAYS clamp down the metal workpiece.
2. Be extremely careful to move the saw very slowly as you cut. Use slower speeds (positions 1,
2 or 3 on the speed controller). DO NOT twist, bend or force the blade.
3. When cutting metals, suitable cooling/cutting oil must be used. Squirt the lubricant onto the
blade or workpiece at regular intervals during cutting in order to reduce wear on the blade.
4. If the saw jumps or bounces as you cut, change to a blade with finer teeth.
5. If the blade begins to clog when cutting soft metal, change to a blade with coarser teeth.
6. For easier cutting, lubricate the blade with a stick of cutting wax or cutting oil.
7. Thin metal should be sandwiched between two pieces of wood or tightly clamped on a single
piece of wood (wood on top of the metal). Draw the cut lines or design on the top piece of
wood.
8. When cutting aluminium extrusion or angle iron, clamp the work in a bench vice and saw
close to the vice jaws.
9. When sawing tubing with a diameter larger than the blade is deep, cut through the wall of the
tubing and then insert the blade into the cut, rotating the tube as you saw.
22
MAINTENANCE
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug. For safe and proper working, al-
ways keep the machine and ventilation slots clean.
Any damages to the tool should be repaired in an authorized service center. Repair or maintenance
performed by unqualified persons could result in a risk of injury.
Dust all parts regularly. Clean dust and debris from the vents. Do not obstruct ventilation holes.
Keep the tool handle clean and free of oil or grease. Use only mild soap and a damp cloth to clean
the tool since certain cleaning agents and solvents are harmful to plastics and other insulated parts.
Never use flammable or combustible solvents around tools.
Lightly oil the guide roller of the saw blade from time to time.
Clean laser lens with a soft, dry brush.
DISPOSAL
Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste. Recycle
where facilities exist. Check with your local authority or retailer for recycling advice.
