4.3 Assembling the mechatronic unit
Inserting the direction pin
1. Insert direction pin (6) into the
mechatronic unit (1) so that the
"R" can be read from the front on
a right hand door and the "L" on a
left hand door during use.
To make it easier to slide in, turn the
square spindle of the mechatronic unit
(1) anti-clockwise for right-hand doors,
and clockwise for left-hand doors, as
far as the limit stop when inserting the
direction pin (6)!
Inserting batteries

6 Maintenance and troubleshooting
6.1 Maintenance
The Kaba c-lever compact requires no mechanical or electronic maintenance!
6.1.1 Replacing the battery
Only a limited time is available to change the batteries without losing the
internal clock settings. This so-called residual memory time is 30 seconds for the
Kaba c-lever compact!
Rechargeable batteries must not be used as they do not have sufficient capacity.
ATTENTION
Opening the coupling unit absolves Kaba of any liability under the guarantee!
Risk of explosion
Lithium batteries can explode or burst explosively.
Improper handling of lithium batteries can lead to fires and explosions.
- Only replace lithium batteries with batteries of the same type.
- No not open, pierce or crush lithium batteries.
- Do not burn lithium batteries or expose them to high temperatures.
- Do not short-circuit lithium batteries.
- Do not recharge lithium batteries.
Detaching the lever handle
1. Detach the lever handle (5) with
the help of the dismantling key
supplied.
2. Insert the dismantling key in the
inside of the lever handle, turn
upwards and remove the handle.

Installation instructions Maintenance and troubleshooting
Kaba c-lever compact k2evo703en-2011-05 18
6.1.2 Setting the clock
The programmer is required in order to check and set the clock in the actuator.
Always check the time following a change of batteries or at least once a year. A
detailed description can be found in the Programmer user manual. It is essential
that the clock is set precisely for the system to work correctly in CardLink
authorisation mode.
6.1.3 Reading Traceback
The Traceback (event list) of the most recent 2000 events can be read using the
Programmer, provided that the function has not been previously deactivated in
the KEM software.
See Programmer user manual.
The events and data that are registered in the Traceback are listed in the kaba
evolo system description.
Taking off the housing and changing
the batteries
1. Remove the metal ring (3) with
guide ring (4) and housing (2)
from the mechatronic unit (1)
whilst pushing against the square
of the coupling unit.
2. Take out the batteries (7) and
replace them with new ones.
Ensure correct battery polarity!
3. Push the housing (2), metal ring
(3) and guide ring (4) onto the
mechatronic unit and re-fit the
lever handle.
ATTENTION
As old batteries can leak, it is advisable to check the condition of the batteries at
regular intervals. Kaba cannot provide compensation for any consequential
damage caused by faulty batteries (batteries cannot be guaranteed).

6.1.4 Emergency opening for discharged batteries
As the batteries are accessible from the outside, no emergency opening using
the Programmer or emergency opening device is necessary. Change discharged
batteries immediately, as described in section 5.4.
- Emergency opening using locking cylinder
If all the alarms were ignored until the batteries were completely dead, the door
can only be opened from the outside using an authorised mechanical key and
the key-operated latch. To be able to open the door mechanically in an
emergency, a lock with a key operated latch must be used or fitted!
- Unlocking from the inside
1. With a panic lock, the Kaba c-lever compact can always be unlocked by
operating the handle. The relevant locking function is otherwise ensured by
moving the inner handle.
- Unlocking from the outside
1. Insert the mechanically authorised key into the locking cylinder.
2. Turn the key in the opening direction as far as the limit stop.
3. Open the door using the key-operated latch.
Installation instructions Maintenance and troubleshooting
Kaba c-lever compact k2evo703en-2011-05 20
6.2 INI reset
6.2.1 Initialising the electronic module
The electronic module can only be reset by initialising it using an authorised user
medium or programming master, i.e. the factory settings are restored.
Initialisation deletes all settings that are stored in the electronic module. !
6.3 Cleaning
The facing of the actuator may be damaged by the use of inappropriate cleaning
agents or methods.
Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the facing. Only disinfection agents that are
specifically designed for delicate metal facings and plastics should be used.
Connecting INI contacts
1. Place authorised user medium or
programming master in front of
the antenna.
2. Bridge (connect) the two
initialisation points (1) with
tweezers.
3. Successful initialisation is
confirmed by an acoustic double
signal (2 x short).
Soft INI reset
1. Hold the authorised
programming master in front of
the antenna.
2. An acoustic double signal follows
after 10 seconds.
3. Another acoustic double signal
follows after a further 15 seconds.
This confirms successful
initialisation.
