The lightning flash with arrowhead sym-

Green-and-yellow: Earth

As the colours of the wire in the mains lead of this appliance may not
correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your

The wire which is coloured green-and-yellow must be connected to
the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the earth

The WJ-DC108AD Data Converter is designed to con-
trol Panasonic cameras and auxiliary equipment by use
of an AD (American Dynamics) controller.
PREFACE
The WJ-DC108AD Data Converter, when combined
with the AD (American Dynamics) controller, enables
control of the Panasonic cameras shown below.
Remote control of up to eight (8) cameras and aux-
iliary equipment via single cable by using optional
Receivers and accessories, including:
1. Remote control of Pan-Tilt Head and Camera
Housing.
2. Remote control of Motorized Zoom Lenses:
Focus, Zoom and Iris.
3. Remote control of camera setting, including
Electronic Sensitivity Up, Electronic Shutter and
more.
Remote control of up to two (2) cameras via RS485
interface.

PRECAUTIONS
Refer all work related to the installation of this
product to qualified service personnel or system
installers.
Do not block the ventilation opening or slots on
the cover.
To prevent the appliance from overheating, place it
at least 5 cm (2 inches) away from the wall.
Do not drop metallic parts through slots.
This could permanently damage the appliance. Turn
the power off immediately and contact qualified ser-
vice personnel for service.
Do not attempt to disassemble the appliance.
To prevent electric shock, do not remove screws or
covers.
There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Contact
qualified service personnel for maintenance.
Handle the appliance with care.
Do not strike or shake, as this may damage the
appliance.
Do not expose the appliance to water or
moisture, nor try to operate it in wet areas.
Do take immediate action if the appliance becomes
wet. Turn the power off and refer servicing to quali-
fied service personnel. Moisture may damage the
appliance and also cause electric shock.
Do not use strong or abrasive detergents when
cleaning the appliance body.
Use a dry cloth to clean the appliance when it is
dirty.
When the dirt is hard to remove, use a mild deter-
gent and wipe gently.
Do not operate the appliance beyond its
specified temperature, humidity or power source
ratings.
Do not use the appliance in an extreme environ-
ment where high temperature or high humidity
exists.
Use the appliance at temperatures within –10°C -
+50°C and a humidity below 90 %.
The input power source for this appliance is 220 -
240 V AC 50 Hz.

Front View
1. Power Switch (POWER ON/OFF)
This switch is used to turn the Data Converter power
On or Off.
The indicator lights up when the power is turned on.
Switch Protector (Standard Accessory)
To prevent that the power of this appliance is turned
off accidentally, install the supplied switch protector
as shown below.
2. RS485 Address Switches (RS485-1, RS485-2)
These switches are used to set the camera address-
es connected to the RS485 Terminal.
Up to 1 024 addresses can be set in the system.
3. VD2/Cable Compensation Switches (CH1 - CH8)
These switches are used to set the most suitable
position of the cable-loss compensator and to turn
on and off the VD2 (Sync signal) for the cameras
connected to the CAMERA IN connectors.
4. Camera Address Switches (CH1 - CH8)
These switches are used to set the camera address-
es connected to the CAMERA IN connectors.
Up to 1 024 addresses can be set in the system.

11. Camera Input Connector (CAMERA IN 1 - 8)
This connector accepts either a colour or B/W com-
posite video signal from the camera.
In addition, the VD2 signal for synchronizing vertical
timing of the cameras, and data to control camera
site devices are multiplexed through this connector.
12. Camera Output Connector (CAMERA OUT 1 - 8)
The video signal connected to the Camera Input
Connector (CAMERA IN) is looped through to this
connector with an automatic 75 termination.
The camera control signal multiplexed on the video
signal is not available at this connector. When
Power Switch of the Data Converter is turned off, no
signal is present at this connector.
13. VD/Through Selector (VD VS/VD (THRU))
This switch is used to choose the output signal of
the VS/VD OUT connector.
VD: Chooses the internal VD (Vertical Drive) pulse.
VS/VD (THRU): Chooses the looping-through sync
signals supplied to the VS/VD IN connector from
an external device.
14. VS/VD Input Connector (VS/VD IN)
Either the VS (Video Sync) signal or the VD (Vertical
Drive) pulse can be supplied to this connector for
synchronizing the system.
Notes:
This input may be looped through to the VS/VD
Output Connector by setting the VD/Through
selector.
• When the VD (or VS) signal is supplied to the
VS/VD IN connector, set the DIP switch (SW2)
on the circuit board to the VD (or VS) position.
Initially, the DIP switch (SW2) is set to the VS
position at the factory. Ask qualified service per-
sonnel about setting up this switch.
• The external sync signal should meet with EIA
RS-170 specifications and should not contain
any jitters, such as a VTR playback signal.
15. VS/VD Output Connector (VS/VD OUT)
The internal VD (Vertical Drive) pulse or the looping-
through external sync signal is provided at this con-
nector for synchronizing other system components
by setting the VD/Through Selector.
16. Data Input Connector (DATA IN)
This receives the control data from the AD equip-
ment.
Connect this to DATA LINE (High Speed Data Link)
on the AD equipment.
17. Data Output Connector (DATA OUT)
The control data connected to the Data Input
Connector (DATA IN) is looped through to this con-
nector with an automatic 75 termination.
18. Data/Code Selector (DATA/CODE, TERM
ON/OFF)
This switch is used to select Data or Code line.
When the Code line is selected, set the switch to ON
or OFF position to terminate the Code line input.
19. Code Terminal (CODE B/W/S)
This receives the control data from the AD equip-
ment.
Connect this to CODE line (Manchester Code) on
the AD equipment.
20. RS485 Terminal (RS485 G/TB/TA/RB/RA)
These terminals are used to exchange control data
with the camera site equipment via RS485 interface.
21. Line Selector (RS485 LINE SELECT)
These switches let you select either Full Duplex
(4 lines) or Half Duplex (2 lines) for the communica-
tion lines.

The installations described below should be made
by qualified service personnel or system installers.
DIP Switch Setting (On the Board)
Caution: Before disassembling the Data Converter, be
sure to turn off the Power Switch of the Data
Converter.
1. Remove the six screws on the top panel of the Data
Converter as shown below.
2. Remove the top panel.
The DIP switches are located on the board as
shown below.

3. Set the switch (SW2) on the board to match the sync
input signal supplied to the VS/VD Input Connector
(VS/VD IN), if applicable.
Initially, VS position is selected at the factory.
Note: 2nd switch is provid-
ed as reserve.

4. Set the switches (SW902 and SW952) on the board
to choose the camera or receiver command for
Coaxial cameras when the AUXILIARY key is
pressed.
CAM: Set this position to control a camera with pre-
set positions function, such as the WV-CS600
series.
RECV: Set this position to control cameras other
than the above.
Note: Wiper/Defroster (WIP/DEF) or Auxiliary Switch
(AUX) selector is only valid when the RECV
position is set.
Initially, CAM position is selected at the factory.

5. Set the switches (SW3) on the board to choose the
camera or receiver command for RS485 cameras
when the AUXILIARY key is pressed, and to set the
Baud Rate for communication.
Initially, CAM position and 19 200 bps position are
selected at the factory.

6. After setting the switches, secure them by tightening
the screws shown above.

Camera Address Setting
Set the switches (SW201 to SW208, SW221 and
SW222) on the board to set the address of the cam-
era that is connected to the Camera Input
Connector (CAMERA IN) and RS485 Terminal.
Up to 1 024 addresses can be set in the system.
Refer to the Camera Address Setting on page 86 for
details.
Initially, the addresses shown below are selected at
the factory.

VD2 and Cable Compensation Setting
Set the switches (SW211 to SW218) on the board to
choose the most suitable position of the cable-loss
compensator and to turn on and off the VD2 (Sync
signal) for the cameras.
(1) Set the switches to select VD2 On or Off.
Note: Select ON for a camera with VD2 capabil-
ity, otherwise select OFF.
(2) Set the switches to select the most suitable
cable length as shown below.
S: Up to 500 m (1 600 ft)
M: 500 m (1 600 ft) to 900 m (2 900 ft)
L: 900 m (2 900 ft) to 1 200 m (4 000 ft)
(When using RG-6/U (5C-2V) or equivalent
cable)
Caution: Do not select ON position simultane-
ously for 3rd and 4th switches.
Notes:
The camera addresses set should be the same
as actual (Real) camera numbers of the AD.
After all address settings are completed restart
(Power off then on) the unit to initialize the new
settings.

3. Install the Data Converter with the rack mounting
brackets in the rack by using four screws (not
included).
Cautions:
Do not block the ventilation opening or slots on
the cover to prevent the appliance from over-
heating.
Always keep the temperature in the rack within
50°C (122°F).
Secure the rear of the appliance to the rack by
using additional mounting brackets (procured
locally) if the rack is subject to vibration.
Mounting in the Rack
1. Remove the four rubber feet by removing the four
screws from the bottom of the Data Converter.
Remove four rubber feet.
2. Place the rack mounting brackets on both sides of
the Data Converter and tighten them with the eight
supplied screws (M3 X10).

Connection with the Camera Site
Connect the Camera Site equipment to the Camera
Input Connectors (CAMERA IN 1-8) on the rear of the
Data Converter.
Connect the Camera Site equipment to the RS485
Terminal on the rear of the Data Converter, when speci-
fied equipment is connected.

Note: If you use cables assembled from locally pro-
cured materials, it is important that only high quality,
data grade cable, suitable for RS485 “2-wire twisted
pair shielded cable” is used.
Low grade cable will result in unstable operation of
the system.
Cautions:
The multiplexed camera site alarm, including motion detector, is not effective with the AD equipment.
To prevent malfunction in the system, set the camera site alarm to the OFF position.
If the RS485 cameras are connected to the RS485 Terminal, set the parameters of the cameras for RS485 site com-
munication as shown below.

Monitor Selection
1. Select the desired monitor by pressing the Numeric
keys, then press the MONITOR key.
For example, press 1, then press the MONITOR key
to select monitor 1.
Camera Selection
1. Select the desired monitor referring to the Monitor
Selection.
2. Select the desired camera address by pressing the
Numeric keys, then press the CAMERA key.
For example, press 1, then press the CAMERA key
to select camera 1 on the selected monitor.
Controlling System Accessories
Lens Control
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Press the FOCUS NEAR/FAR keys to adjust the
lens focus to obtain a sharply focused picture while
observing the monitor.
Select 1 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to adjust the lens focus
automatically, if you are using the specified camera
with auto focus feature.
3. Press the ZOOM WIDE/TELE keys to adjust the lens
zoom to obtain the desired picture while observing
the monitor.
Press the TELE key to optically bring an object clos-
er.
Pressing the WIDE key has the reverse effect.
4. Press the IRIS CLOSE/OPEN keys to close or open
the lens iris.
Adjust the lens iris by using the keys to obtain the
proper picture exposure.
Pan/Tilt Control (Manual Operation)
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Move the Joystick Controller to move the pan/tilt
head in the desired direction.
Pan/Tilt Control (Auto Panning Operation)
The following functions are available only with cameras
that have auto panning functions, such as the
Panasonic WV-CS600 series and when the DIP switch is
set to CAM position.
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Select 2 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to activate the auto panning
function.
3. To cancel the auto panning function, select 2 by
pressing the Numeric key, then press the AUXIL-
IARY OFF key.
Note: If the AUTO MODE is selected to activate the
camera, make sure to select LOCAL for the
LOCAL/REMOTE parameter.

Pan/Tilt Control (Preset Operation)
The following functions are available only with cameras
that have the preset position function, such as the
Panasonic WV-CS600 series and when the DIP switch
is set to CAM position.
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Select the desired preset position number by press-
ing the Numeric keys, then press the PRESET
CALL (SHOT) key to move the camera to the pre-
set position.
Simplified Preset Position Setting
The preset position can be set by a simplified pro-
cedure without going through the position setting
menu in the Camera’s Setup menu.
1. Select the desired camera referring to the
Camera Selection.
2. Move the Joystick Controller to move the cam-
era in the desired direction.
3. Press the FOCUS and ZOOM keys to adjust the
lens to obtain the desired picture.
4. Select the preset number (1 - 64) to be set by
pressing the Numeric keys, then press the
PRESET SET key to assign the preset position.
Notes:
The above Simplified Preset Position Setting
may not be available with some AD con-
troller types.
To prevent to assigning a mistaken position,
do not attempt to set preset positions while
the camera is operating in AUTO MODE
(Auto Pan, Sort and Sequence).
Pan/Tilt Control (Home Position Operation)
The following functions are available only with the cam-
eras that have the preset positions function, such as the
Panasonic WV-CS600 series and when the DIP switch
is set to CAM position.
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Select 1 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY OFF key to move the camera to the
home position.
Camera Housing Control
The following function is available only when the WV-
RC100 or WV-RC150 Receiver is included in the sys-
tem, and the DIP switch is set to RECV and WIP/DEF
positions.
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Select 1 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to turn on the housing
defroster.
To turn off the defroster, select 1 by pressing the
Numeric key, then press the AUXILIARY OFF key.
3. Select 2 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to turn on the housing
wiper.
To turn off the wiper, select 2 by pressing the
Numeric key, then press the AUXILIARY OFF key.
Auxiliary Control
The following function is available only when the WV-
RC100 or WV-RC150 Receiver is included in the sys-
tem, and the DIP switch is set to RECV and AUX posi-
tions.
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Select 1 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to turn on the user’s auxil-
iary 1 switch in the Receiver.
To turn off the auxiliary 1 switch, select 1 by press-
ing the Numeric key, then press the AUXILIARY
OFF key.
3. Select 2 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to turn on the user’s auxil-
iary 2 switch in the Receiver..
To turn off the auxiliary 2 switch, select 2 by press-
ing the Numeric key, then press the AUXILIARY
OFF key.
Note: Make sure to set the Auxiliary switches in the
Receiver to LATCH mode.

Camera Setup
1. Select the desired camera referring to the Camera
Selection.
2. Select 3 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to display the Camera’s
Setup Menu on the selected monitor.
3. Select an item by moving the joystick controller
upward or downward.
Then select the mode by pressing the joystick con-
troller to the left or right.
4. Select 1 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to execute the selection
and enter a sub menu of the camera setup menu.
To enter to the SPECIAL menu, select 2 by pressing
the Numeric key then press the AUXILIARY ON
key.
5. Select 2 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY ON key to reset the selected func-
tion, or select 2 by pressing the Numeric key, then
press the AUXILIARY OFF key to reset all functions
to the initial sate.
6. Select 1 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY OFF key to execute the setting and
return to the previous menu.
7. Select 3 by pressing the Numeric key, then press
the AUXILIARY OFF key to exit from the camera
setup mode or menu.
Notes:
• When an attempt is made to use the all reset
function during camera setup, the camera’s
setup menu disappears.
To prevent malfunction, repeat procedure 7 to
exit the setup mode, even if the camera’s setup
menu has disappeared from the monitor
screen.
When an attempt is made to display the camera
menu for a camera that does not have a camera
menu, repeat procedure 7 to exit the setup
mode, even if the camera’s setup menu is not
displayed.
