ASSEMBLING TIER LIGHT HEAD
There are four separate components to the
Tier Light head as shown : fig 1
1. Fit top cap onto rim of lens and ensure that
it snaps firmly in place.
2. Fit small plastic ring onto Tier Light lens
with textured surface upwards. Use thumbs
to push the ring over lens until it snaps firmly
in centre locating groove.
3. Fit globe socket and terminal pin housing
onto the lower part of lens. Locate the
bayonet type slots, twist and lock into place.
CONNECTING THE LIGHTS TO
LOW VOLTAGE CABLE
IMPORTANT: Low voltage cable is
NOT to be used for 240 volt wiring.
NOTE: Cable lengths greater than 18 metres
may cause a small reduction in brightness to
Tier Lights furthest along the cable from the
transformer.
1. If you are adding Tier Lights to your
existing garden lighting, first check that the
transformer is powerful enough to illuminate
lights
(See chart on page 2 Maximum Load Capacity
of Arlec Garden Lighting Transformers).
2. Additional cable can be joined to your
existing cable either at the end of the length,
or joined anywhere along the cable using an
Arlec Cable Connector (LV700). Arlec low
voltage cable is completely weatherproof and
may be used above or below ground.
3. Lay low voltage cable out in position in
readiness for connecting Tier Lights.
4. Plug the transformer into a household
powerpoint and switch “ON”. This will
enable you to check light connections during
installation.
This operation is completely safe because the
wiring is only carrying a low 12 volt.
5. At the location of the new Tier Light form
the low voltage cable into a large loop.
6. Lay the flat side of the cable across the pin
terminals at the base of the tier light.

Arlec guarantees this product against defects of
materials and workmanship for a period of 1 year
from the date of purchase provided the product
is used for its proper purpose, in accordance with
Arlec’s recommendations and within such voltage
and current limits as are specified by Arlec in relation
to the product. Arlec will at its own option and cost
make good, or replace this product with the same
or similar product and return it to you, or provide
a credit for any product manufactured or supplied
by it, which proves to be defective within the limits
set out above provided that no repairs, alterations or
modifications to the product have been undertaken
or attempted by anyone, other than Arlec or its
authorized agents. Should you wish to make a claim
under this guarantee, the product and proof of
purchase must be returned pre-paid by you to the
place of purchase.
This guarantee is in addition to and does not take
away from any other rights and remedies you may
have under any relevant law.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be
excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a
major failure and for compensation for any other
reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or
replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality
and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

7. Holding the low voltage cable in position
screw the stake into the Tier Light base. This
will drive the two pin terminals into the cable.
(See Fig 2)
8. Continue screwing the stake into the Tier
Light until the Tier Light illuminates.
NOTE: If the light does not illuminate, see
section headed “Trouble shooting and user
hints”.
9. Press cable into locating studs on both sides
of the stake.(See fig 3).
10. Holding the Tier Light stem only, push
the stake into the ground no deeper then the
locating studs on the sides of the stake. Do
not rotate or exert excessive pressure to the
Tier Light when assembled and in the ground
(Fig 3).
NOTES ON DESIGN OF YOUR
GARDEN LIGHTING SYSTEM
1. Ensure that the wattage of the transformer
is greater than the total wattage of lights.
(For example, a 42 watt transformer is
capable of supplying max 42 watts of
lighting, so ten garden lights of 4 watts each
could be accommodated).
2. If possible avoid cable runs of more than
18 metres and definitely no more than
32 metres. In larger systems, or where
the total wattage is over 50 watts, split
the lighting into two cable runs, where
each cable comes back to be fed by the
transformer.
This will ensure better power distribution
and globe brightness.
Note 1: LV42-T, LV90 and LV250 transformers include a Timer and Light Sensor.
Note 2: For systems with a mixture of wattages, add the individual wattages.
The sum must be less than the wattage rating of the transformer.

PROBLEM CAUSE REMEDY
Lights do not operate. No power. Ensure transformer is plugged in and power is
on. (Is the power point working?).
Lights do not operate. Blown fuse. Replace fuse. (Note: no fuse in LV250
transformer).
Lights do not operate. Low voltage cable has not been
connected to the transformer.
Ensure the low voltage cable is connected to
the transformer. (Is the connection firm?).
Light does not switch on at dusk when
using either the “DUSK TILL DAWN”
or “TIMER” mode. Daylight Sensor/
Timer transformers only, or when using
separate Time/Light Sensor.
Artificial light affecting Timer/Light
Sensor (ie street lights, car lights, etc.)
Mount Timer/Light Sensor in a position where
artificial lights do not affect its operation.
Light does not switch on at dusk when
using either the “DUSK TILL DAWN”
or “TIMER” mode. Daylight Sensor/
Timer transformers only, or when using
separate Time/Light Sensor.
Timer/Light Sensor To check Light Sensor: ensure switch is in
either “DUSK TILL DAWN” or “TIMER HOUR”
position, cover sensor lens with black PVC
tape (ensuring that no light gets in). The
lights should switch on after a few seconds.
If the lights have now switched on, the light
sensor may simply require mounting in a
position where artificial light cannot affect its
operation.
Only some of the lights switch on. Connecting pins in cable connector
have not penetrated into cable.
Straighten pins with pliers then reconnect.
Only some of the lights switch on. Globe not pressed into globe socket
correctly.
Ensure globe is pushed firmly into position.
Only some of the lights switch on. Globe blown. Replace globe.
Lights stay on for longer period than
the timer suggests. Daylight Sensor/

re-start the preprogrammed time again

TROUBLE SHOOTING AND USER HINTS
REPLACING LIGHT GLOBE
1. Twist the Tier Light head anti-clockwise while holding
the collar firmly.
2. Lift off the Tier Light head to reveal the globe.
3. Pull the globe straight out from the socket.
4. Push in the new 4 watt globe (Arlec LV412).
5. Reassemble by reversing steps 1 and 2.
