Safety Warnings and Precautions
WARNING: When using tool, basic safety precautions should always be followed to
reduce the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment.
Read all instructions before using this tool!
1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
2. Observe work area conditions. Do not use machines or power tools in damp or wet
locations. Don’t expose to rain. Keep work area well lighted. Do not use electrically
powered tools in the presence of flammable gases or liquids.
3. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do not let
them handle machines, tools, or extension cords.
4. Store idle equipment. When not in use, tools must be stored in a dry location to
inhibit rust. Always lock up tools and keep out of reach of children.
5. Use the right tool for the job. Do not attempt to force a small tool or attachment to do
the work of a larger industrial tool. There are certain applications for which this tool
was designed. It will do the job better and more safely at the rate for which it was
intended. Do not modify this tool and do not use this tool for a purpose for which it was
not intended.
6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they can be caught in mov-
ing parts. Protective, electrically nonconductive clothes and footwear with toes
enclosed are recommended when working. Wear restrictive hair covering to contain
long hair.
7. Use eye and ear protection. Always wear ANSI approved impact safety goggles. We
recommend wearing a full face shield while trimming.
8. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not reach over or
across running machines.

9. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools clean for better and safer performance. Follow
instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Inspect tool cords periodically
and, if damaged, have them repaired by an authorized technician. The handle must be
kept clean, dry, and free from oil and grease at all times.
10. Disconnect power. Unplug charger when not in use.
11. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Check that keys and adjusting wrenches
are removed from the tool or machine work surface before plugging it in.
12. Avoid unintentional starting. Be sure the trigger is not depressed when not in use
and before attaching a battery. Do not carry any tool with your finger on the trigger,
whether a battery is attached or not.
13. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, use common sense. Do not operate any tool
when you are tired.
14. Check for damaged parts. Before using any tool, any part that appears damaged
should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its
intended function. Check for alignment and binding of moving parts; any broken parts
or mounting fixtures; and any other condition that may affect proper operation. Any part
that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by a qualified technician. Do
not use the tool if any switch does not turn On and Off properly.
15. Guard against electric shock. Prevent body contact with grounded surfaces such as
pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerator enclosures.
16. Replacement parts and accessories. When servicing, use only identical replace-
ment parts. Use of any other parts will void the warranty. Only use accessories
intended for use with this tool. Approved accessories are available from Harbor Freight
Tools.
17. Do not operate tool if under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Read warning
labels if taking prescription medicine to determine if your judgement or reflexes are
impaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do not operate the Trimmer.
18. Use proper size and type extension cord. If an extension cord is required, it must be
of the proper size and type to supply the correct current to the charger without heating
up. Otherwise, the extension cord could melt and catch fire, or cause electrical damage
to the tool. This tool requires use of an extension cord of 0 to 10 amps capability (up to
50 feet), with wire size rated at 18 AWG. Longer extension cords require larger size
wire. If you are using the tool outdoors, use an extension cord rated for outdoor use
(signified by “WA” on the jacket).
19. Maintenance. For your safety, maintenance should be performed regularly by a quali-
fied technician.
20. Operation of equipment in close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause
interference to or failure of the pacemaker.
Warning: The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual
cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be under-
stood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be
built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.

When unpacking, check to make sure that the item is intact and undamaged. If any parts are
missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number on the cover of this manual
as soon as possible.
Warning! This Trimmer is not a brush cutter. Do not alter or adapt the cutting head to
use blades, cutting chains or any other cutting device other than .055” line.
Trimmer Warnings
1. Do not use the unit in the rain or with wet hands.
2. Only use with 0.055” diameter trim (single) line.
3. The area to be trimmed must be cleared of any obstacles (i.e. rocks, nails, broken glass,
wire, string etc.) that may become entangled or thrown from the spinning cutting string.
4. Clear the area of pets, children, and bystanders before operation. If someone approaches
within 15 feet, turn off the Trimmer immediately.
5. Do not attach the battery until ready for operation. Remove the battery immediately after
operation so that children don’t inadvertently start the unit.
6. Only use the charging unit that came with your Trimmer. Use of another charger may
cause the battery to explode, causing severe injury. Do not use your charger to charge
any other battery. Do not expose the charger to moisture.
7. The charger can only be used in temperatures ranging between 50 and 100° F. Situate
the charger where the cord will not be stepped on.
8. Do not take apart the battery. The battery must be disposed of in a safe manner in accor-
dance to your local waste authority guidelines.
9. Do not lift the charger by the cord.
Operational Warnings
10. Wear boots, gloves, and heavy long
pants during operation.
11. The Safety Guard (#30) must always
be in place during operation.
12. Do not operate the Trimmer unless the
line on the Line Spool (#4) is extended (approxi-
mately 6”).
13. Always operate the Trimmer with both hands. One
hand on the Handle and one hand on the Side
Handle (#14,15).
14. Keep your hands, face, and feet a comfortable dis-
tance from the moving line. Do not try to touch the
cutting line during operation.
15. When cutting is delayed, or when walking from one
cutting location to another, always stop the Trim-
mer.
16. If the line becomes entangled with an object, or you come in contact with an object,
immediately stop the Trimmer.

Assembly
Warning! Be careful of the sharp line Cutter (#32) during assembly and maintenance.
1. Fit the Safety Guard (#30) onto the shaft until it snaps into place. Tighten it in place with
the Screw D (#33). See FIG-
URE 2.
2. To adjust the Side Handle (#13,
14) into a comfortable position
for you, loosen the Square
Deck Bolt (#13) and turn the
handle to the appropriate posi-
tion. Tighten the Square Deck
Bolt (#13).
3. Your Trimmer comes with a full
reel of cutting line. To add a new
reel of cutting line; remove the
battery first and then remove the
Spool Cover (#1) by pressing
in on the tabs on both sides of it
and turning it counterclockwise.
When the cover is removed the
Spring (#5) will come out. Re-
move the empty Line Spool (#4)
and replace it with a new one
(Line Spools are available at
Harbor Freight Tools). Insert the
Line on the end of the new spool
through the outlet on the Line
Spool Housing (#6). Push the
Bumper (#2) to release just
over 6” on line. The extra line
will be removed during opera-
tion, with the Cutter (#32).
Replace the Spring (#5) and
screw on the Spool Cover (#1)
clockwise.
4. Next, align the tongue on the
Battery (#27) with the hole in
the battery housing and insert it
until it snaps, locked into place.
To remove the Battery (#27),
put your thumb and forefinger on
the tabs on each side of the
Battery (#27), and squeeze the
tabs while pulling out the Bat-
tery (#27). See FIGURE 3.

Operation
Battery Charging
1. Remove the Battery (#27) from the Trimmer. See number 3 on page 5.
2. Locate the charger in a dry area where the temperature is no less than 50 degrees and
no more than 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. Insert the Battery (#27) into the Charging Base (#35). Plug the Adapter (#36) into the
Charging Base (#35). Plug the Adapter (#36) into a 120V wall outlet. Allow it to
charge for 11-12 hours.
4. After charging the battery, unplug the charger from the wall outlet. Remove the Battery
(#27) from the Charger Base (#35).
5. Replace the Battery (#27) into the Trimmer.
Trimmer Use
Warning!! The Safety Guard (#30) must always be in place during operation. Do not operate
the unit without the cutting line installed and extended. Wear long pants, boots, and ANSI
approved eye and ear protection.
Warning!! During operation, if you strike a foreign object, or become entangled in foreign
matter, immediately shut down the unit. Do not operate the unit again until you repair any
damage. Do not attempt to repair any entanglements with the unit on or the battery pack
attached. Do not put your finger near the Trigger (#23) until you are ready to operate.
1. Carry the unit at waist level with your arm slightly bent, holding the handle housing
near the Trigger (#23). Hold the Side Handle (#14,15) with your other hand.
2. The Bumper (#2) must be parallel to the ground. Do not use this Trimmer sideways as
an edger. See FIGURE 2 on page 5.
3. Press and hold the Trigger Safety (#20) which allows the Trigger (#23) to operate.
4. Depress and hold the Trigger (#23) to start the unit. Release the Trigger Safety (#20).
5. When finished, release the Trigger (#23).
Adjusting the Trimmer Line Length (Only use .055” diameter single line)
1. Your Trimmer has a bump head mechanism, allowing you to release trimming line
without stopping the unit. If the line is cut off or becomes frayed or worn, you can
release more by gently tapping the Bumper (#2) on the ground while the Trimmer is
operating. Each tap on the ground will release approximately 1 inch of line.
2. Make sure you keep the line fully extended (to the edge of the Safety Guard (#30)
because the bump mechanism will not work properly when the line is too short.
Note: Always switch to a fresh battery when tool performance begins to diminish. Severe heat is most destructive
to a battery; the more heat generated, the faster the battery loses power. A battery that gets too hot can be permanently
damaged. Never over-discharge a battery by using the tool even after tool performance is decreasing. Never attempt to
discharge a tool’s battery by continuing to pull the tool trigger. When tool performance begins to diminish, stop the
tool, recharge the battery and use the fresh battery for optimal performance.

Operation (continued)
Operational Tips
1. Make sure the cutting head is parallel to the ground.
2. Never allow the Bumper (#2) to rest on the ground during operation.
3. Allow the tip of the line to do the cutting. Do not force the unit.
4. Tall grass (above 8”) should be cut from the top to the bottom in small sections.
5. Trim when weeds or grass are dry.
6. If possible, cut from right to left. Due to the direction of the line, efficiency is improved
and the material being cut is thrown away from you.
7. Keep the Trimmer at a consistent height moving it either side to side or in a forward-
backward motion. It works best when cutting shorter lengths of grass or weeds at a
time.
8. Avoid any contact with walls or solid surfaces as they will cut the line.
Maintenance
Remove the Battery before any maintenance is performed.
1. Keep the unit clean and remove any materials or vegetation that is caught between the
cutting attachment and the Safety Guard (#30).
2. Use a mild detergent to clean the housing. Do not use harsh detergents or solvents.
3. Keep air vents clear of dirt or debris.
4. Only use approved replacement line. Replacement line is available at Harbor Freight
Tools.
