Do Not
1. This product uses ordinary off-the-shelf electronic components, and is therefore inappropriate for use in
applications that require special quality or reliability and are expected to protect human lives or prevent

Product Warranty and Scope of Support
1. HuMANDATA guarantees that its products can be assembled as shown in published circuit diagrams and other design documents.
There may be differences between actual components or their prescribed quantities and model numbers and those shown in circuit
diagrams.
2. Except for the guarantee in item 1, above, no guarantees whatsoever are made. When assembling the product as shown in a circuit
diagram is impossible, and the problem can be solved by revising the diagram, HuMANDATA will revise the diagram. When a
problem can be solved only by replacing components or modifying the product, HuMANDATA will take back the product to replace it
with a properly functioning product.
3. If the problem is minor, HuMANDATA will sometimes describe how to make the revision or modification, and ask the customer to
solve the problem.
4. HuMANDATA will determine how to honor the warranty, as through repair, replacement, return, or other action. The customer cannot
specify what action to take.
5. FPGAs and other components used in products sometimes have characteristic defects. Returns and replacements are not possible
even if such defects are discovered, whether before or after purchase.
6. HuMANDATA shall not be obligated to inform customers about defects in the main components used in products.
7. HuMANDATA shall not be obligated to provide support for products, or to provide support for the software of other companies
needed to use HuMANDATA products.
8. Published documentation shall be limited to that published by HuMANDATA at the time of product purchase, and HuMANDATA shall
not be obligated to provide any other documentation.
9. When repairs or replacements are provided under warranty in Japan, purchaser shall pay shipping charges for shipping to
HuMANDATA, and HuMANDATA shall pay shipping charges for shipping to purchaser.
10. When shipping from outside of Japan, purchaser shall pay all expenses including shipping charges and taxes.
11. Under whatever circumstances, HuMANDATA shall provide support for its products for a maximum of one year after shipping from
factory.
12. The Warranty is not applicable and support ends in the event of fire, storm and flood damage, earthquakes, lightning strikes, and
other natural disasters, as well as conflict or other occurrences.
13. Purchaser is assumed to have read and understood all the above when purchasing a HuMANDATA product.
Limitation of Liability
1. Purchasers assume all liability associated with the use of this product.
2. HuMANDATA assumes no liability whatsoever for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the
use of this product, even if HuMANDATA has been advised of the possibility of such damage, whether legal or in tort.
3. At the time this product is purchased, items 1 and 2 above shall be deemed to have been confirmed by purchaser.
Trademarks and Other Considerations
1. This manual uses various companies’ trademarks in places.
2. HuMANDATA is this company’s registered trademark.

4. Instead of concealing small product problems and documentation errors, HuMANDATA makes them public.

Introduction
Thank you for purchasing our product EDX-303.
EDX-303 is an evaluation board with USB interface equipped with a Xilinx FPGA
Spartan-7 series and FTDI's FT2232H.
By using the original configuration tool “BBC[EDX-303]”, no download cable or
Xilinx developing environment is needed to configure FPGA and configuration
device on the board.

2.3. Power Supply
This board operates from single DC 5.0 V power supply from user I/O connectors
(CNA and CNB). The external power supply should be sufficient and stabilized.
Please do not apply over 5.0V voltage. Internally required voltages are generated by
on-board voltage regulators.
You can also use USB bus power by setting JP2.

I/O power of CNA, IOA, is supplied by on-board 3.3V.
I/O power of CNB, IOB, is supplied by external power input.
When JP1 is short, on-board 3.3V is supplied to VIO(B).

2.5. Oscillator
50MHz oscillator (U1) is equipped as on-board clock. External clock
can be input from user I/O connectors.
For more detail, please refer to circuit schematics.
2.6. User Switch
A push switch (SW1) and a DIP switch (SW1[2])
are equipped as user switch. They are pulled up, so
you can input low level signal to the FPGA when you push it.
2.7. User LED and 7-Segment LED
They are user LEDs. They are lighted by output low.
2.8. MRAM
This is a non-volatile memory for SRAM control.
For more details, please refer to the datasheet of the memory.
2.9. Debug I/F
CN2 can be used for any purpose.
They are connected through resisters to FPGA.
2.10. Setting Switch
FPGA configuration mode can be changed by this switch.

2.11. FT2232H Setting Jumper
FTDIs FT2232H is mounted as USB controller IC. By connecting to a PC, 2
channels (A/B) are recognized.
Chanel A is connected to user ports of the FPGA for user communication. Chanel B
is connected to pins for FPGA configuration ports.
By setting JP4, reset function and EEPROM are available.

- FT2232H will be recognized in default setting. (FTDI
default descriptor, both A/B channels are configured as
UART mode ).

- By setting FPGA pin to High, FT2232H will be in its
reset mode.
Open (factory setting)
FPGA pin is not connected to FT2232H’s reset pin
- To use original configuration tool BBC[EDX-303] set this

3. Device Driver
To recognize USB controller, installing device driver is needed. The first time
EDX-303 is connected to a PC, installing it is required by Operation System.
The device driver is available at the support page.

4. FPGA Configuration
4.1. Using Original Tool
By using the original configuration tool “BBC[EDX-303]”, following function is
available without download cable.

BBC[EDX-303]” is available for free from a support page.
When you use this tool, please set a configuration mode to Slave Serial.
4.2. Using JTAG Download cable
Download cable is needed to use XILINX tool (iMPACT and ChipScope). Pin

4.3. Using Configuration Device
Configuration data written in the configuration device will be configured to the
FPGA automatically when power is applied. To use this function, set configuration
mode to Master SPI”.
Do not download inaccurate configuration data. It would damage the FPGA and
peripheral circuit.
