About the fan tray
HPE 5960 400G Pwr2Prt BF Fan Tray (R9Y17A) provides power supply side-intake and
port side-exhaust airflow and delivers high cooling efficiency. It is small, hot swappable,
and can automatically adjust the fan speed based on the device temperature.

• Before you install or remove the fan tray, wear an ESD wrist strap and make sure the
wrist strap has good skin contact and is reliably grounded.
• Do not touch any bare wire or terminal.
• Do not place the fan tray in a damp environment and prevent liquid from flowing into the fan tray.
• When an internal circuit or component is faulty, do not remove any components from the fan
tray. Contact HPE Support.
• Before you install the fan tray, make sure the fan tray model is compatible with the device
and the airflow direction matches the airflow design at the installation site.
• To avoid damaging the fan tray and the backplane connector, insert the fan tray slowly. If you
encounter a resistance or the fan tray tilts when you insert it, remove the fan tray and reinsert it.
Removing the fan tray
• Ensure electricity safety when you remove the fan tray on an operating device.
• Never touch the fan tray when it is rotating.
• To prevent an unbalanced fan from causing loud noise, do not touch the fan blades or
rotation axis, even if it is not rotating.
• Place the removed fan tray on an anti-static mat or put it into an anti-static bag.

Description
Press the red part of the handle with one hand to unlock the fan
tray, and then pull the fan tray slowly out of the slot.
1. Orient the fan tray with its connectors facing downwards.
2. Holding the fan tray with one hand and supporting the fan tray bottom with the other, gently
insert the fan tray into the slot along the guide rails until the fan tray is seated securely in the
slot and has a firm contact with the connectors on the backplane.
