Overview of the TRAKKER
This chapter will help you become familiar with the TRAKKER
2420/2425 terminal, including the meaning of the display icons
and audio tones, and using the terminal’s keypad.
Please read this chapter before you use the terminal.
The primary function of the TRAKKER Antares data collection terminal is to
record bar coded information. We use it to collect information for warehousing
and customer bin stocking operations. The full function keyboard allows you to
manually enter information that cannot be scanned into the device.
After you have collected information with the TRAKKER, you upload it to your
FASPAC system for subsequent validation and processing by the FASPAC
FasTrak programs.
FASPAC supports two models of the TRAKKER Antares terminals.
FPD/318-03 1-1
The model 2420 captures data through its built in scanner and keyboard.
The data is transmitted from the 2420 to the FASPAC system by placing
the 2420 into a communications dock. The communications dock is
connected to a serial port on the FASPAC system using a standard serial
cable. Data can also be transmitted by modem.
The model 2425 has the same capabilities as the 2420, and also supports
real-time RF communications with the FASPAC system through a radio
frequency network.
Note: If you will be using the TRAKKER 2425 terminal for RF applications,
refer to the Radio Frequency Applications User’s Manual.

FEATURES
Audio Signals
The TRAKKER has a beeper and internal speakers that produce audio signals
(beep sequences) as you use the terminal.
The following table lists the beep sequences and what they mean.
BEEP SEQUENCE WHAT IT MEANS
Low beep You entered a valid command, or the data you
entered was successfully stored.
High beep You entered valid data, the terminal decoded a bar
code, or the terminal decoded the last row of a
two-dimensional symbology bar code.
Three low beeps You scanned or entered an invalid command or data.
Four low beeps You turned on the terminal and the power-on self test
(POST) completed successfully.
Low beep, high beep, low beep,
high beep
You turned on the terminal and the power-on self test
(POST) failed.
Click You pressed a key or scanned a two-dimensional
symbology bar code.
Low beep every 15 seconds The main battery is low. Replace or recharge the
battery.
Note: You can change the beep volume to meet the needs of your environment
(such as making it louder in a warehouse). See page 3-48.
Serial Port
The serial port on the bottom of the TRAKKER connects to the serial port on the
communications dock. TRAKKER signals are converted to serial signals and
then transmitted through this connection to FASPAC.
The TRAKKER also receives programs from FASPAC through the serial port.
1-10 FPD/318-03
OVERVIEW OF THE TRAKKER
Batteries
There are two types of batteries in the TRAKKER terminal:
Main battery pack—The main power source for operating the terminal.
The charge typically lasts from six to eight hours.
Backup battery—The power source for flash memory and the real-time
clock when the main battery is removed from the TRAKKER. When
charged, it will last for up to five years.
Precautions and Warnings
Please observe the following precautions before you set up and operate your
TRAKKER terminal.
Do not look directly into the window area of the scanner or at a reflection
of the laser beam while it is scanning. Exposure to the laser beam could
damage your eyesight.
Do not remove the main battery pack while the terminal is turned on. You
may lose data.
Do not remove the backup battery. Data will be lost.
If you have been using the terminal in a cold temperature environment and
need to recharge it, let the battery packs warm up for half an hour before
you recharge them.
