Lenscleaning:Blowofflooseparticlesusingcleancompressedairandthenbrushtheremaining
debrisawaywithanelensbrush.Wipethesurfacewithalenscleaningclothoraclean,soft,lint-
freecloth.Inthecaseofngerprintsoranyothergreaseformation,theclothmaybemoistenedwith
waterorlenscleaninguid.Donotuseacid,alcohol,orothersolventsorharsh,lintyclothtoclean
thelens.Avoidandexcessivepressure.
Cleaningtheexterior:Tocleantheexteriorhousing,usesoapandwateroramildcommercial

INSERTINGTHEBATTERIES
• Replacethebatteryassoonasthelowbatterysymbolappearsonthedisplay.
• Openthebatterycompartmentcover.
• Connectthe9Vbatterytothebatteryconnector.The9Vbatterycanonlybeinsertedoneway
andhencecannothavethewrongpolarity.Donotuseforcetoinsertthebattery.
• Closethebatterycompartmentcover.
OPERATION
Operatingprinciple
IRthermometersmeasurethesurfacetemperatureofanobject.Thesensoronthedevicerecords
theheatradiationemitted,reectedandtransmittedfromtheobject,andconvertsthisinformation
intoatemperaturevalue.Theemissionlevelisavalueusedtodescribetheenergyradiationcharac-
teristicsofamaterial.Thehigherthevalue,themorecapablethematerialisofemittingradiation.
Manyorganicmaterialsandsurfaceshaveanemissionlevelofapprox.0.95.Metallicsurfacesor
shinymaterialshavealoweremissionlevelandthereforereturninaccuratemeasuredvalues.
Measurementdistance/measurementsurfacearearatio(D/S)
• Toachieveaccuratemeasurements,thetargetmustbelargerthanthethermometer’smeasuring
area.Themeasuredtemperatureistheaveragetemperatureoftheareameasured.
• Thesmallerthetarget,thesmallerthemeasurementdistancebetweenthermometerandtarget
objecthastobe.
• Thedistancetotarget/sizeofIRfocalspotratiois8:1.Withadistanceof8cmtothetarget,the
sizeoftheIRfocalspotisthus1cm.

Measuring
1. Toobtainthebestmeasurementresults,orienttheinfraredsensorofthethermometervertically
tothetargetobjectsurface.
2. Holddownthetriggertostartthemeasurement.“SCAN”appearsonthedisplay.
3. Themeasuredtemperatureisshownonthedisplay.
4. Whileholdingdownthetrigger,pressthe“LCD/Laser”button
- oncetoactivatethelaserpointer(lasersymbolappearsonthedisplay),
- twiceforadditionallyactivatingtheLCDbacklight,
- threetimestoswitchoffthelaserpointer,or
- fourtimestoswitchofftheLCDbacklight.
5. Afterthetriggerhasbeenreleasedthemeasuredvalueissavedforapprox.eightseconds.
“HOLD”appearsonthedisplay.
6. Thethermometerswitchesoffautomaticallyaftereightsecondsofinactivity.
Pressthe“ºC/ºF”buttontoswitchbetweenthetwounits.
Thedevicesavesthemeasuredmaximumandminimumtemperaturesduringthecurrent
measurement.Pressthe“MAX/MIN”buttontoshowthesevaluesinthelowerpartofthe
display.
