n Type the IP address to be used for broadcasts, then press Enter.
o When the configuration is complete, the host name given to the iSCSI
Storage Appliance
displays (for example, myhostname#).
p
Type
quit
, then press
Enter
to log out of the Command Line Interface.
Note: If you are using an non-American English keyboard, you can use a
command to have your iSCSI Storage Appliance recognize your keyboard’s
language. Refer to the iSCSI Storage Appliance User’s Guide on the
Installation CD for more information.
q Disconnect from the iSCSI Storage Appliance.
For more information, refer to the iSCSI Storage Appliance User’s Guide on the
Installation CD.
Caution: Do not enter the RAID controller’s BIOS. Modifying the default BIOS
settings or creating storage using the BIOS may cause permanent data loss.
To safely configure the iSCSI Storage Appliance and create and manage
storage, use the Command Line Interface or the Adaptec Storage Manager
software included on the Installation CD.
Troubleshooting
If the Command Line Interface Installation Wizard does not open the first
time you boot up the
iSCSI Storage Appliance
, use the system BIOS to set
the flash device as the primary boot device.
If the
iSCSI Storage Appliance
does not boot:
Ensure that the flash drive is installed in the primary IDE connector.
Ensure that the IDE controller is enabled and the flash drive is selected
as the primary boot device.
Ensure that the flash drive is discovered on the primary IDE channel
within the motherboard BIOS.
If the BIOS does not discover the flash drive, power down the
iSCSI
Storage Appliance
, then ensure that the flash drive is properly installed
and that the power cable is properly connected to it.
If you still need help, contact your Adaptec
Field Application Engineer.
Adaptec OnTarget™
Installation Guide
Your Adaptec OnTarget kit includes either a USB or IDE flash drive that contains
the Adaptec OnTarget software. This
Guide
explains how to install the flash
drive and
software onto a server and configure an iSCSI Storage Appliance.

Step 1: Install the RAID Controller and Flash Drive
Caution: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage the flash drive. Follow
standard anti-ESD precautions to avoid exposing the flash drive to static
charge.
a
When the iSCSI Storage Appliance is powered down, disconnect the power
cable, then open the cabinet, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
b
Discharge any static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal
object (such as the exposed metal parts on the back of your computer).
c Install the RAID controller. (Refer to the controller’s documentation for
instructions.)
d Insert the flash drive into either an internal USB connector or the primary
IDE connector on the
motherboard, as appropriate for your specific flash
drive. (The primary IDE connector is normally labeled “IDE 0” and is
slotted so that the flash drive fits the correct way only.)
e IDE flash drives only—Connect the flash drive to a standard floppy disk
drive power connector, or use an adapter cable to connect the flash drive to
a standard 5.25 floppy disk drive connector. (USB flash drives are bus-
powered.)
f Close the server cabinet and reattach the power cable.
The iSCSI Storage Appliance is ready to be configured.
Step 2: Configure the iSCSI Storage Appliance
Note: This step may be completed by the iSCSI Storage Appliance user instead.
a
Connect to the iSCSI Storage Appliance using either of these methods:
Connect a monitor and keyboard to the
iSCSI Storage Appliance,
or
Use a serial cable to connect the COM 1 port of a system running a
terminal emulation program to the
iSCSI Storage Appliance’s serial
port.
Use these settings for the terminal emulation program:
Null Modem Cable
Baud Rate: 115,200
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Off
b Power on the iSCSI Storage Appliance.
The Command Line Interface Installation Wizard opens and prompts you
to enter parameters for the
iSCSI Storage Appliance
. (If the Wizard doesn’t
open, see
Troubleshooting
on the back page.)
c At the Hostname prompt, type a name for the iSCSI Storage Appliance,
then press Enter.
d Type the network domain to which the iSCSI Storage Appliance belongs,
then press Enter.
e Press Enter to accept the current system date, or type a new date, then press
Enter. Use this format:
[hh:mm:ss@mm/dd/yy]
f Press Enter to accept the current time zone, or type a new time zone, then
press Enter. Use this format:
GMT+12 – GMT-12
g
Type
yes
to create a new administrative password, then press
Enter
. Type the
new password, then press
Enter.
Confirm the new password, then press
Enter
.
Note: If you don’t create a new administrative password, use the default,
which is
passw0rd
. Note the zero instead of the letter O.
h
Type a new operator password, then press Enter. Confirm the new
password, then press Enter.
Note:
In the next steps (i through n), you configure the management port. Use
this format when entering IP addresses and the netmask:
