The design of the BMW K 1200 R
takes into account the fact that
motorcycle riders come in all
shapes and sizes. That’s why
there are two choices of seat
height – the standard 820-mm
version or a 790-mm low version.
Every rider knows that the wider
the seat, especially towards the
front, the harder it is – whatever
the seat height – to reach the
ground with your feet. That’s why
the seat has been optimised in
terms of step length: markedly
slimmer towards the front, giving
more freedom of movement for
sports-style riding, while broad at
the rear, for more comfort. Its
slimline construction, coupled
with handlebars pushed forward
to achieve a steering head angle
of 61 degrees, make for a com-
manding riding position.
The BMW K 1200 R is designed
to suit larger and smaller riders
alike. The ergonomic triangle
formed by the footrest, seat and
handlebar ensures a relaxed riding
experience, even in a sports
riding position. And the slim lines
of the BMW K 1200 R also allow
for an especially narrow knee
posture, improving rider control
and contact with the bike.

Weight and counterweight.
Ultimate stopping power.
The BMW Motorrad braking
system has been specially adapt-
ed for the BMW K 1200 R to
meet the demands of sports
riding. Its low weight, long life
and outstanding braking per-
formance really set it apart.
To ensure that the stopping pow-
er of the BMW K 1200 R is
applied to maximum effect, the
motorcycle can be fitted with the
partially integral version of the
new BMW Motorrad Integral
ABS system. The system, which
increases overall weight by just
2.2 kilograms, optimises the
distribution of braking force
between front and rear wheels
when the handlebar lever is pulled.
The foot brake, on the other hand,
acts only on the rear-wheel. The
system prevents rearwheel lift,
enssuring both wheels stay on the
road at all times. Other benefits
include the high degree of preci-
sion with which riders can control
braking, and the system’s ability
to adjust the distribution of brak-
ing force according to the load
being carried. No more mainten-
ance is required than on motor-
cycles without ABS.
The stainless steel brake hoses
not only ensure the biting point
of the brakes remains constant,
they also look great.
Powerful forces.
The BMW Motorrad Para-
lever, with its overhead torque
reactor strut, uses a lightweight
sports design. The lower un-
sprung mass results in lower
weight, making the rear-wheel
suspension particularly responsive.
The lightweight BMW Motorrad
shaft drive delivers sportsbike
response and performance. It is
extremely durable and easy to
maintain.
