1 Getting Started
The PDC 2030 camera provides you easy-to-use features. It has never
been any easier or more enjoyable to take digital pictures and record video
clips. Here are a few examples of what you can do with your camera.
Point & shoot operation or adjust image resolution.
Store pictures, video clips to the internal memory.
Playback pictures and video clips on a computer.
Send the pictures and video clips over the Internet to family and
friends.

• Installing the batteries
2 x AA Alkaline batteries are supplied with the product.
1. Press down and push outward to open the battery door.
2. Insert the batteries as shown, ensuring you follow the +/- signs
correctly.
3. Close the battery door by pressing down and pushing it back in
position.

To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and
then release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the
camera is ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the
camera off.

• Checking the battery level
Check the battery power level before taking pictures.
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch
following the arrow and then release. In about
ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the
camera is ready to take pictures. Slide the Power
switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Check the battery status level that appears on the camera status
LCD.
Batteries has adequate power.
The battery power is low.
Battery power is exhausted. The batteries need to be replaced.
• Automatic Power Off Saves Battery Life
Your camera is designed to turn off automatically to save battery life after
60 seconds of inactivity.

• Checking Camera Status
Turn on the camera and view the camera Status LCD screen to check
which camera settings are active. If the feature icon is not displayed, it
means that particular feature is not activated.

3 Taking and Managing the Pictures
• Taking a Picture
This camera is designed to take pictures of subjects as close as 3 feet
(0.9 meters) to innity.
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Frame your subject using the Viewnder.
3. Press the Shutter button to take a picture. When
you press the shutter button, a beep sounds.
Hold the camera steadily until another beep
sounds. The picture counter on the status LCD
will increase by one, displaying the total number
of pictures taken.

NOTE:
Outdoor pictures : Take pictures in sunlight, bright or heavy shadows. Avoid
intense sunlight that may cause sun spots in pictures. Always make sure that
the sun or other light source is behind the person taking the picture.
Indoor or night pictures : Take pictures at night or indoors using the Flash.

• Using the Flash
Use the Flash when you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in
heavy shadows.
Flash Range: 3 feet ~ 4.9 feet (0.9 meters ~ 1.5 meters)
Press the button repeatedly to scroll through the ash options. The ash
icon that is displayed on the Status LCD screen is the active option. The
default setting is Flash off.

Flash Off. The ash does not re. Use this setting for outdoor
pictures, or where ash is prohibited or may be distracting, or
when shooting toward a reective surface, such as a window or
mirror. If there is not enough light when using this setting, your
pictures will be too dark.

Auto Flash. The ash res automatically as needed. Use this
setting to take most pictures.
Flash On. The ash res for every picture. Use it indoors in low
light.
NOTE:
When the camera is set to Flash on and Auto Flash, the icons on the Status
LCD will blink, which indicates the ash is charging, and they will stop blinking
when the ash has charged.
When the battery power level is low and unable to charge the ash, there will
be a low beep tone when you press the ash button.
When the ash is charging, you are not able to take pictures. There will be two
short beeps if you press the shutter button.

• Setting the Image Resolution
Picture resolution refers to the number of pixels in a digital photo. The
higher the resolution, the more pixels in your photo and the more memory
the photo uses. A higher resolution produces a higher quality digital photo
when printed.
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Press the Mode button once, and then the “HI” icon blinks on the
status LCD.
3. Press the Select button while “HI” is blinking, and the “MED” icon
blinks on the status LCD. Press the Select button again, and the
“LOW” icon blinks on the status LCD.
4. Press the shutter button to conrm. Also it can stop blinking
automatically.
The following are the approximate number of pictures you can expect the
camera to hold at each setting based on the 16MB internal memory.
“HI” : High 1600 x 1200; approximately 30 pictures
“MED” : Medium 1024 x 768; approximately 105 pictures
“LOW” : Low 800 x 600; approximately 157 pictures
NOTE
Scene complexity affects a picture’s le size. For example, the le size of a
picture with trees in autumn is larger than that of the blue sky at the same
resolution and quality setting. Therefore, the number of pictures you can store
in the internal memory may vary.

• Setting Self-timer
Your camera is designed with a self-timer function which allows you to
take pictures with a 10-second built-in timer.
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
Self-timer is only applied to the next picture taken.
Place the camera on a at surface or use a tripod when using the Self-timer
function.
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Press the Mode button repeatedly until the
icon blinks on the status
LCD. Then press the Select button to conrm, and it will remain solid.
3. Frame your subject using the Viewnder.
4. Press the shutter button to take a picture.
The camera starts countdown. The camera beeps and the LED indicator
blinks slowly for 5 seconds, then quickly for 3 seconds and faster for the
last 2 seconds before the picture is taken.
• Deleting the Last Picture
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Press the Mode button repeatedly until the icon
blinks on the status LCD.
3. Press the Select button to conrm and the icon
will stop blinking.
4. Press the Shutter button to delete the last picture taken. The icon
(Erasing the last picture) will appear on the status LCD while deleting
the last picture taken. When the picture has been deleted, the picture
counter will decrease by one. You also can delete the last picture by
pressing the Shutter button while the icon
is blinking on the status
LCD.

• Deleting All Pictures
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Press the Mode button repeatedly until the icon
blinks on the status
LCD.
3. Press the Select button to conrm and the icon
will stop blinking.
4. Press the Shutter button to delete all the pictures taken. The icon
”(Erasing all pictures) will appear on the status LCD while deleting
all pictures. When the pictures have been deleted, you will hear two
short beeps and the picture counter will go to

4 Recording Video Clips
Use the Video mode to record video clips. When in the Video mode, the
resolution is automatically set to 320 x 240 pixels.
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Press the Mode button repeatedly until the icon
appears on the
status LCD. Then Press the Select button to conrm, and it will remain
solid.
3. Frame your subjects using the viewnder.
4. Press the Shutter button to start recording the video clip. The video
counter will increase in second.
5. Press the Shutter button again to stop recording, or recording stops
when the internal memory is full.
NOTE:
There is no audio when a video clip is recorded.
Deleting video clips is the same as deleting pictures. Please refer to “Deleting
the Last Picture” and “Deleting All Pictures” on Page 12 and 13 for details.

5 Installing the Software onto a Computer
• Installing the Software
For Windows® Users:
PC
IMPORTANT!
Please backup all the necessary data before any driver/software installation.
The CD-ROM is tested and recommended to use under English Windows OS.
IMPORTANT! (For Windows® 98SE)
On Windows® 98SE Mass Storage function needs to install the PDC 2030
Driver. After the installation, please restart the Windows before connecting the
camera to the PC.
IMPORTANT!
To experience higher performance in graphics and sound when you’re watching
video clips on your PC, it is recommended to install the DirectX ver. 8.0 or
above. It can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/directx.
IMPORTANT! (For Windows® ME, 2000, XP)
Directly plug-in the camera to transfer and play the pictures, video clips or audio
clips. No need to install the driver. But if you want to use NetMeeting™ function,
please install the driver rst.
IMPORTANT! If the computer requests you to install the Windows® system disk
during the software installation, place the Windows® CD into the computer CD-
ROM drive or insert the PDC 2030 driver CD to the CD-Rom drive. If PDC 2030
driver CD is inserted, please set the path to “CD-Rom drive \software\Driver\
Sysle”. The computer will install the necessary les from the CD automatically.
When the Windows® software appears to have nished the operation, close the
Windows® screen. Remove the Windows® CD and store safely.
NOTE:
Microsoft® NetMeeting™ is already bundled with Windows® 2000 and XP OS.
Users using Windows® 2000 or XP do not need to install this software from the
CD-ROM.

1. Before you begin, close all other software applications
open on your computer.
2. Insert the CD supplied into the computer CD-ROM Drive.
3. The CD User Interface Screen will automatically
launch.
4. With the mouse, click on each software interface
button in turn and follow the on screen instructions.

If the setup screen doesn’t appear after loading the CD, then you can manually start it by double-
clicking the “My Computer” Icon on your desktop, then double-clicking the icon for the CD-ROM
drive. When the CD-ROM window opens, double-click the “INSTALL-E.EXE” icon.
For Macintosh® Users:

1. Before you begin, close all other software applications opened on your
computer.
2. Insert the CD supplied into the computer CD-ROM Drive.
3. Double click the CD-ROM icon “Polaroid”.
4. Install the software included.

Easy to use, just plug the camera to a computer and use it as a removable disk.
Use the Arcsoft® software to edit and print the Pictures.
ArcSoft PhotoImpression™ 4.0 Picture Editing Software
ArcSoft PhotoImpression™ is an easy to use digital image-editing program.
This program enables users to upload still image and movie clips store in your
camera. You could also edit and retouch your photos, then add special effects
or place them in cards, calendars, frames and fantasy templates. ArcSoft
PhotoImpression™ also includes a wide variety of printing options.
Microsoft® Netmeeting™ Web Cam software
NetMeeting™ provides the most complete conferencing solution for the Internet
and corporate intranet. Powerful features let you communicate with both audio
and video, collaborate on virtually any Windows-based application, exchange
graphics on an electronic whiteboard, transfer les, use the text-based chat
program, and much more. Using your PC and the Internet, you can now hold
face-to-face conversations with friends and family around the world.

Users)
BEFORE YOU CONNECT YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA TO THE COMPUTER,
MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE SOFTWARE FROM THE
ENCLOSED CD. PLEASE REFER TO “5 Installing the Software onto a
Computer.”
Default setting is the Mass Storage mode.
For Windows® and Macintosh® Users:

• Connecting to Your Computer
USB Series “A” Plug Connects to your Computer
1. Plug one end of the USB cable into the socket marked on your
computer.
2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your
camera.

• Transferring the Pictures and Video clips to PC
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Double click on “My Computer” icon on your desktop and then you
can see a “Removable Disk” drive.
3. Double click “Removable Disk” -> double click “DCIM”-> double click
“100MEDIA”.
4. All the pictures and video clips are in the “100MEDIA” folder. Highlight
the pictures or video clips and drag them to a folder of your choice.
You can also create sub-folders to group them or use the Arcsoft
software to edit and manage the pictures.
For Macintosh® Users:

• Transferring the Pictures and Video clips to MAC
NOTE:
For MAC user, directly plug-in the camera, no need to install the driver.
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:
To turn on the camera, slide the Power switch following the arrow and then
release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. The systems will automatically recognize a MASS STORAGE drive
named “untitled”.
NOTE:
This Drive name will vary on different versions of MAC OS systems.
3. Double click the folder “untitled” to enter.
4. Double click the folder “DCIM” and then the folder “100MEDIA”.
5. You can copy the pictures and video clips from this folder “100MEDIA”
and paste them to the hard disk.

7 Using your Camera as a Web Cam (PC only)
• Change the driver type to the PC-Camera mode
1. Turn the camera on.
NOTE:

release. In about ve seconds, you will hear a beep sound and the camera is
ready to take pictures. Slide the Power switch again to turn the camera off.
2. Press the Mode button repeatedly until the icon
blinks on the
Status LCD.
3. Press the Select button to conrm and the icon
will stop blinking.
• Setting up NetMeeting™
NOTE:
Set the camera to Capture mode before starting NetMeeting™.
1. Connect your PDC 2030 to the USB cable on one end.
2. Connect the USB cable to a USB port on your PC on the other end.
3. When it is the rst time to use the camera as a “Web Cam”. The
Windows may prompt the user to insert the Windows system disk.
Please insert the PDC 2030 driver CD or the Windows CD into the
CD-ROM drive to install the requested les.
4. Put your PDC 2030 on top of your PC monitor or another at
surface.
5. Connect your Microphone and your Speaker to your audio card’s Mic
in jack and Speaker out jack respectively.
