1 Getting Started
The iON 230 camera provides you easy-to-use features. It has never
been any easier or more enjoyable to take digital pictures. Here are a few
examples of what you can do with your camera.
Enjoy point & shoot operation. Adjust the resolution for print
or email, white balance to suit light conditions and sharpness
to suit your subject.
Store pictures, video clips to the internal memory or a SD
card.
Playback pictures and video clips on the LCD screen or a
computer.
Send the pictures and video clips over the Internet to family
and friends.

• Installing the Battery
• Charging the Battery
There are four ways to charge the battery. Please fully charge the
battery for up to ten hours before you use the camera for the rst time
after purchase.
1. Using an AC Adaptor, via the Docking Station
Install the battery into the camera.
Plug the end of the AC Adaptor into the DC Jack on the Docking
Station, and connect the adaptor to the household power outlet.
Place the camera into the Docking
station. For further detail refers to Using
Docking Station on page 7. The Back Up
Battery Charging LED on the Docking
Station will be on.
The battery begins charging and the
battery charge indicator on the camera
blinks. The LED will remain solid when it
nishes charging.

2. Using an AC Adaptor, via the camera
Install the battery into the camera.
Connect the AC adaptor with the Connector.
Plug the labelled end of the Conector into the USB port on the
camera.
Connect the adaptor to the household
power outlet.
The battery begins charging and
the battery charge indicator on the
camera blinks. The LED will remain
solid when it nishes charging.
3. Using the Docking Station
Take the battery out from camera and then place the battery into
the battery charger on the Docking Station.
Plug the end of the AC Adaptor into the DC Jack on the Docking
Station, and connect the adaptor to the household power outlet.
The battery begins charging and the battery
charge indicator on the camera blinks. The
LED will remain solid when it has nished
charging.
4. Using USB cable via computer
Install the battery into the camera.
Plug the labelled end of the USB cable into the socket marked
on your computer.
Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB port.
The battery begins charging and the battery charge indicator on
the camera blinks. The LED will remain solid when it nishes
charging.
If you have a Backup Battery (optional - see www.polaroid-digital.com
for more information), both batteries can be charged on the Docking
Station at the same time. Leave one battery in the camera and use
the battery charger slot in the Docking Station to charge the Backup
Battery. Docking Station must be plugged into A/C at the time.

• Turning the Camera On and Off
Fully press and hold the Power button until
the status LED turns green and the camera
is on. Press and hold the Power button
again, the camera will be off.

Check the battery power level before taking pictures.
1. Turn the camera on.
2. Check the battery level status that appears
on the camera LCD screen.
Battery has adequate power.
Only half of the battery power left.
Low battery. Battery needs to be
recharged.

2 Camera Setting
• Checking Camera Status
Turn on the camera, view the camera LCD screen to check which
camera settings are active. If the feature icon is not displayed, it means
particular feature is not activated.

• Setting the Beep Sound On and Off
You can turn the Beep sound on and off in any mode. When the Beep
sound is turned on, the camera will beep when you press the buttons.
Turn on the camera and set the Capture/Playback selector to Capture
mode.

• Automatic Power Off Saves Battery
Your camera is designed to turn off the LCD screen after 60 seconds
of inactivity. Pressing the LCD screen On/Off button will reactivate the
LCD screen. If there is no more operation within one or three minute(s),
the camera will automatically power off to save battery life. You will
need to press the Power button if you want to turn on the camera again.
You can change Power Save Setting by the following steps.

mode.

NOTE:
Auto power off is automatically disabled under any one of the following
conditions.
While the camera’s USB port is connected to a computer or other external
devices, or while the camera is being controlled by an external device.
While the AC adaptor is connected to the camera.

3 Taking Pictures
• Taking a Picture
1. Turn on the camera.
2. Set the Capture/Playback selector to Capture mode.
3. Frame your subject using the LCD screen or
viewnder.
4. Press the Shutter button to take a picture. Hold the
camera steady until you hear a second beep, it means
the picture has been taken. The LCD screen shows
the number of pictures that still can be taken.

Usually we set the Normal / Macro Selector to
Normal when the subject is 3 feet (1 m) to
innity. For subjects within 6 to 9 inches (15 to
23 cm), set the selector to Macro .

• Taking Continuous Pictures
Turn on the camera and set the Capture/Playback selector to Capture
mode.

Once you have selected the continuous mode, icon
appears on LCD
screen, hold down the Shutter button to record continuous pictures.
You can capture 4 pictures in continuous pictures mode.
The capture mode returns to Still Picture automatically after taking
continuous pictures. Please remember to set the capture mode to
Continuous picture
before taking continuous pictures.
NOTE:
The ash does not re during the continuous mode.
The number of continuous pictures you can take will depend on the
available memory and resolution setting.

• Setting the 2X Digital Zoom
This feature lets you “zoom” in on the central area of a picture and
photograph only the enlarged portion of the picture. Digital zoom
applies to only one picture at a time.
For the digital zoom feature, the viewnder may not reect the actual
image taken. We recommend the user to use LCD screen to monitor the
zoom feature.
You can zoom in or zoom out the subject through the following steps.
1. Turn on the camera.
2. Set the Capture/Playback selector to Capture mode.
3. Press Up
button to zoom in the subject.
4. Press Down
button to zoom out the subject.
5. Press Shutter button to take pictures.

• Setting Flash Mode
Turn on the camera and set the Capture/Playback selector to Capture mode.

Red eye
The camera has four ash modes. Different ash setting applies to
different situation.
Auto ash: The ash res automatically as needed. Use this
setting to take most pictures.
Flash on: The ash res for every picture. Use this setting
indoors in low light.
Flash off: The ash does not re. Use this setting for outdoor
pictures or where ash is prohibited or may be
distracting. Also use when shooting toward a reective
surface, such as a window or mirror. If you do not have
enough light when using this setting, your pictures will
be too dark.
Red eye: Use this setting to avoid red glare in your subjects
eyes. The camera res a brief, preash ash before the
regular ash.
NOTE:
Effective ash light range: Approx. 4 ~ 6 feet (Approx. 1 ~ 1.5 m).

• Setting Exposure Compensation
You can adjust the exposure compensation value (EV) within the
range from -3EV to +3EV in order to compensate for current lighting
conditions. This setting can be used to obtain better results when
shooting with backlighting, indirect indoor light and a dark background,
etc.

NOTE:
A higher EV value is best used for light-coloured subjects and backlit
subjects. A lower EV value is best for dark-coloured subjects and for
shooting outdoors on a clear day.
When shooting under very dark or very bright conditions, you may not
be able to obtain satisfactory results even after performing exposure
compensation.
Exposure compensation returns to its default setting 0” after you turn off
the camera.
