Chapter 1. Introduction
This guide provides a quick introduction to the Emerson FBxEdgesolution, which
consists of an edge device (either the Emerson RXi2 LP Industrial PC or the Emerson
RXi2 – BP Industrial PC) connecting to one or more Emerson FB3000 RTUs, Emerson
FB1000 or FB2000 series flow computers, or Emerson ROC800 RTUs. This guide covers the
installation of the physical edge device and details the process you use to link field
devices to that FBxEdge device.
Note
Using FBxEdge, you can create a network of field devices linked into a single edge device.
You can then use the FBxEdge Managerweb-based software to connect multiple
FBxEdge devices into larger network. For more information on FBxEdge Manager, refer to
the Emerson FBxEdge Manager User Guide (part D301916X012).

Chapter 2. Installing the FBxEdge Device
Important
Emerson offers two edge devices as part of the FBxEdge solution: the default RXi2-LP and
the optional RXi2-BP. Consult with your Emerson Impact Partner to determine which edge
device best meets your organization’s needs. This section discusses the installation of the
RXi2-LP edge device. Refer to Appendix A for installation processes for the RXi2-BP edge
device.
The RXi2-LP uses an AMD® G-Series Quad Core 1.2GHz processor, with 4Gb of RAM and
65Gb of storage. For further specifications, refer to the FBxEdge Platform product data

Chapter 3. Configuring the Edge Device
Each FBxEdge device requires an IP address for communications and configuration.
3.1 Acquiring an IP Address
By default configuration, an FBxEdge device acquires an IP address dynamically from its
DHCP server. However, if the device is connected to a network which does not have a
DHCP server, you must manually assign a static IP address to the device.
3.1.1 IP Address Assigned by DHCP Server
Before configuring an FBxEdge device, you first need the IP address the DHCP server
dynamically assigns to that device:
1. Attach a keyboard (using the USB port) and a monitor (using the DP port) to the edge
device.
2. Connect the edge device to your network with an Ethernet cable.
3. Connect the edge device to power.
4. Press the power button (located at the left rear of the RXi2 LP) and wait for the edge
device to boot.
