Electrical connections

are made using terminal boards with
screw terminals.

ECL 9500 and ECL 9550 must be connected to the following sensors:
ECL 9500 is now able to control the flow
temperature in both heating circuits, in
relation to the outdoor temperature.
ECL 9550 also controls the hot water
service temperature.

a) Program clock
The program clockis must be set in the
required normal and reduced
temperature periods by pushing riders
for reduced temperature setting towards
the center of the clock.
b) Display
On turning the switch concealed behind
the cover plate, the display will show the
operating condition and system
temperature (see function testing and
installer settings).
c) Temperature setting
The function of this knob depends on the
setting in P8.4 (see section on digital
settings). Selection can be made
between weather compensation and
adaptive reference room control in P8.4.
Weather compensation
The flow temperature in both boiler
circuit and mixing circuit can be
increased and decreased (parallel-
displaced) by turning the knob. Turning
towards +8 increases the flow
temperature.
Since the parallel displacement depends
on the slope of the heat curve, the
change can be different in the two
heating circuits.
With ESMR/F connected, the flow
temperature is reduced when the set
max. room temperature is exceeded.
The value is factory-set at 22 °C, but can
be changed in P5.2 (see digital settings).
The amplification factor can be changed
in P9.2.
Adaptive reference room control
The heat curve is automatically adapted
to the heat requirement. The room
temperature can be increased or
decreased with knob c).
The knob must be turned towards +8 if
the room temperature is too low. The
room temperature setting range is
factory-set at 22 ±8°C. The knob mid-
point can be set in P5.2 (see digital
settings).
The amplification factor can be changed
in P9.2.

The best heating economy can be
achieved at the lowest possible flow
temperature and by using radiator
thermostats.

The slope of the heat curve in boiler
circuit and mixing circuit can be set
independently of each other and in the
range 0.2-3.4. The heat curve factory
setting is 1.8.
If a satisfactory room temperature
cannot be obtained when the outdoor
temperature is less than +5 °C, the slope
can be increased by turning knob f) or
g). When the outdoor temperature is
more than +5 °C, the heat curve can be
parallel-displaced using knob c).

h) Setting the night setback level
The night setback level can be set at a
fixed value (1-8) or at an outdoor-
temperature-dependent value (AUTO).
The basic setting for the reduced
temperature is 5. Each graduation on
the scale corresponds to about 1 degree
in the room.
Night setback
The sinking of room temperature in the
reduced period is shown in the above
figure. Different settings are given
(–2, –4, –6, –8 and AUTO).
If no room sensor is used, the control
calculates the parallel displacement to
give the set room temperature setback.
i) Setting the hot water service
temperature (ECL 9550 only)
The hot water service temperature can
be set with potentiometer i).
The basic setting is 50 °C.

Function testing
Status and temperature reading
Setting switch
on positions 0-9
enables the display to show the heating
system temperature and the status of
burner, pumps and valve.
Testing of sensors
The sensors can each be inspected by
reading off the measured temperature
(P0.0-P9.0) and in each case evaluating
the result.
The normal measuring range is -60 °C to
+120 °C. Outside this range the display
becomes:
(2 horizontal bars) for
disconnected sensor
– – (3 horizontal bars) for short-
circuited sensor.
Manual valve control
When testing or adjusting gearmotor
limit switches, the valve can be
controlled manually by setting the
function switch in position
.
The valve can be opened by turning
knob c) fully clockwise and closed by
turning the knob fully counterclockwise.
If the direction of rotation of the motor
does not correspond to the display
indication, the leads to the gearmotor
must be swapped over.

Digital settings
Display, switch and (+), (–) and SET
keys
The switch, display, (+), (–) and SET
keys can be used to check and change
some of the control settings.
Each check and setting range has a
certain “position”. The table below shows
how to make the change between
different positions.
Values in the positions marked * cannot be changed. Positions marked # contain up to three different functions.
See section on value changing.
Position selection
- Switch is used when selecting
rows 0-9.
- (+) and (–) keys are for selecting
columns 0-5. However, access to the
positions in columns 4-5 can only be
gained by selecting P0.3 and pressing
SET for 5 seconds. Then, P0.4 will be
shown in the display and all positions
become accessible.
- When a particular position is selected,
the display shows alternately the
position number, e.g. P1.2, and a
particular value, say 18 °C.
Note: Column 0 displays values only.
Value changing
1) Select the required position.
2) Press “SET” once - the display
flashes.
3) Change the value using keys (+) and
(–).
4) Press “SET” to store the value.
Note
Positions marked # contain up to three
different functions. The values are
changed by choosing one digit at a time.
Press SET and the digit furthest to the
right will begin to flash. The figure can
then be changed using keys (+) and (–).
When SET is pressed again, the middle
digit can be changed. One more press
on SET and the digit farthest to the left
can be changed. All changes can be
stored by pressing SET. The display will
then show a value and position number
alternately.

P0.0 Pumps and valve status
The operating condition of burner, regulating valve and pumps can be read in
the display as vertical bars when the function is ON.
P0.1 Software generation
Software generation is shown in the display
P0.3 Access to columns 4-5
Press SET for 5 seconds and P0.4 will flash. Columns 4 and 5 are now accessible.

The boiler circuit pump is stopped by hot water
service demand.
Systems with distribution valve.
The boiler circuit pump runs when hot water service
is demanded.

The function affects the mixing valve only
Priority OFF
Simultaneous heating and hot water service.
The mixing valve operates during hot water service
demand. Note: The boiler temperature is increased
during hot water service demand and can cause high
radiator temperature.
Priority ON
The mixing valve is closed during hot water
service demand.
Pump stop during night setback 0 or 1
Pump stop OFF
The boiler circuit pump runs when:
- P2.1 > 20 °C

maximum limitation is the temperature set in P5.2.
The influence of ESMR/F must be set in P9.2.

Mounting
On wall
Use a standard or a special base plate
with wall case for mounting ECL 9500
and 9550 on wall.
The plate is fixed on a flat surface with
two 4 mm screws (standard) or three 4
mm screws (special). Be aware of the
"UP"-arrow.
Then wire the ECL 9500 and 9550 as
described in the paragraph "Wiring".
The controller is mounted in the base
plate (when using the special base plate,
note that the controller is first of all to be
fit into the wall case) and screw up the
center screw behind the cover plate.
In the front plate
ECL 9500 and 9550 can be built into a
boiler front plate. The opening is to
measure 92 x 138 mm and the plate is
to be max. 3 mm thick.
Fix four retainer springs on the control-
ler, push it gently into the opening and
the springs will secure the controller in
the opening. The retainer springs are
delivered as accessories together with 2
terminal strips.
Wire the ECL 9500 and 9550 to the two
terminal strips and then mount them in
the controller. The terminal strips are
encoded to prevent exchange by
mistake.
On a DIN-rail
ECL 9500 and 9550 can be mounted on
a 35 mm DIN-rail. Fix a spring -
delivered as accessory - on the base
plate bottom and then mount the base
plate on the DIN-rail.
