This service letter introduces version 2.2 for the EchoNAV user interface which supersedes
the previous service letter(s). For your convenience the highlights of the previous software
are also given.

2. INTENDED USE
This service letter is intended for anyone who uses an EchoStar satellite receiver with an
EchoNAv user interface. It can be used by both first-time and experienced users who want to
install, use and maintain their receiver.
This service letter is applicable for the Digital Satellite Receiver with Hard Disk:
DVR-7000 HDD Viaccess;
DVR-7000 HDD;
DVR-5000 HDD Viaccess;
DVR-5000 HDD.
This service letter is divided into separate sections and chapters for easy reference to the
applicable chapters of your user manual. Please keep this service letter next to your user

INSTALLATION
1. TO SETUP YOUR RECEIVER FOR THE FIRST TIME
This procedure supersedes the procedure as given in the user manual from step 15 onwards.
The main differences are:
Select Easy or Advanced installation,
Easy installation helps you to do the initial setup procedure where Advanced allows you to
program the receiver as required for non-standard installations.
Add a new satellite,
In a satellite field you can select any known satellite in range from the database or add
your own defined satellite with the use of the S00 satellite.
Add a new transponder,
In a transponder field you can select any known transponder from the database or add
your own defined transponder with the use of the TP00 transponder.
FOR ALL CONFIGURATIONS
FOR FIXED AND DISEQC 1..4 SWITCH CONFIGURATIONS - EASY
NOTE
From the next step onwards, the procedure is divided in different configurations. The
configurations are; Fixed, Motorized and SMATV.
Fixed means set up a single dish or multiple dishes with DiSEqC1..4 switch;
Motorized means set up a moveable dish (motor/actuator by positioner);
SMATV means set up for television distribution (cable network in buildings).
1. Make the required selections.
2. Read the available help text for information.
3. Go to the Save settings field to confirm the time.
4. On the RCU, press the OK key to set the time.
Note that the local time is shown correctly.
5. Go to the Continue field.

29. When in the Position field:
a. press and hold theor key and watch the
signal indicator for an indication;
b. in the signal indicator, make sure a network
name is shown;
c. press thekey to select another transponder for
signal verification;
d. press thekey to select the Position field;
e. use thekey to fine tune for the best signal
level and quality;
f. press the OK key, note that the saved position of
the satellite is shown.
30. If you want to add your own defined transponder for
the selected satellite, go to the TP field and select
TP00 (Goes to the menu where you can define your
own transponder, for detailed information, refer to
section 6). If not proceed with step 36.
31. Go to the Search channels field.
32. On the RCU, press the OK key to advance.
33. Wait for the search to complete:
a. the receiver display shows a moving dot;
b. the search completed popup menu appears.
34. On the RCU, press the OK key. to end the initial
setup procedure.
CAUTION
On the motorized dish, set the physical East and West limit switches first. Failing to
do so might cause damage to your motorized dish installation or other properties.
21. Make the required selections.
22. Set the required installation mode, recommended
setting is Easy (guided setup procedure).

24. Go to the Autosat field.
25. On the RCU, press the OK key to advance.

a. press thekey to set the EL (East limit);
b. at the Motor error, press thekey once;
c. press the OK key.

28. Select the most East SAT which you can receive.
29. If you want to add your own defined East SAT,
select S00 (Goes to the menu where you can
define your own satellite, for detailed information,
refer to section 6). If not proceed with step 31.
30. If you want to add your own defined transponder
for the selected satellite, go to the TP field and
select TP00 (Goes to the menu where you can
define your own transponder, for detailed
information, refer to section 6). If not proceed with
step 31.
31. When in the Position field:
a. press and hold thekey and watch the signal
indicator for an indication;
b. in the signal indicator, make sure a network
name is shown;
c. press thekey to select another transponder for
signal verification;
d. press thekey to select the Position field;
e. use thekey to fine tune for the best signal
level and quality;
f. press the OK key, note that the saved position of
the satellite is shown.
32. Repeat the procedure for the middle and most
West SAT.
33. Set the WL (key), refer to step 26.
34. Go to the SAT list field.
35. On the RCU, press the OK key to advance.

FAMILIARIZATION
1. ECHONAV 2.2
The software of the receiver contains the EchoNAV user interface with on-screen help, which
gives you easy control over the features of the receiver. The software contains also a large
database of pre-programmed satellites and transponders which are used for a quick
installation. For initial installation, the software guides you through the required setup menu to
allow for an easy and reliable installation setup of the receiver.
FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS
The highlights for this version are:
New menu languages added;
Portuguese, Dutch.
Revised help lines and related translations;
All menu texts are revised to give more support and information. All menu languages are
translated accordingly.
Several small menu changes incorporated:
- LNB power option in system setup menu for SMATV deleted,
- Time zone option in Local time menu deleted,
- Software identification in About EchoStar menu is changed to show EchoNAV version.
Revised subtitle behavior;
Greek and Russian subtitle support is added.
Multi-lingual language support for EPG added;
If available form the service provider, EPG language is shown in the language which is set
for the menu language (user preferences - Languages - Menu).
Revised conditional access to support smartcards type PC2.4;
The embedded Viaccess smartcard reader is revised to support the latest generation of
PC2.4 smartcards as used by several service providers who use Viaccess encryption.
Revised channel numbering for Current SAT list;
The Current SAT list is revised to have it’s own channel numbering. Therefore the channel
numbering (only for Current SAT) starts at 1 for each satellite. Note that also the satellite
name is shown permanently.
New installation menus added for multiple LNB support;
The installation menu is revised to support Easy and Advanced installation. In the
advanced installation you can define user defined LNBs where the Easy installation allows
for the installation of pre-defined LNBs.
Revised Add SAT, TP and PID menus;
The Add SAT, Add TP, and Add PID are combined in one menu Add data.
New option to add satellite or transponder during initial installation setup added;
Add Data menu is accessible from the initial setup and after installation from the channel
list through the ‘white edit’ menu.
OTA service added on ASTRA1, 19.2 East.
DVR timer modified to allow for recording a relative time block;
The DVR timer is directly accessible after a recording is started. You can set the stop time
either in absolute time (13:00 hr) or relative time (+ 00:15 min).
Updated satellite/transponder database,
You have to perform a factory reset to activate the database, failing to do so keeps the
previous database active.

2. THE ECHONAV INSTALLATION MENU
A highlighted button shows you which (main/sub) menu is selected. The MENU key lets you
change between the main and sub-menu where thekeys let you make a selection in the
selected (main/sub) menu. The OK key brings you into the related page, where you can make
a choice from the available options.
The button, that gives you access to the User Preferences menu;
The button, that gives you access to the installation setup menu;
The button, that gives you access to the Conditional Access menu.
2.1. THE USER PREFERENCES MENU
The button, that gives you access to the User Profile page.
The button, that gives you access to the Languages page.
The button, that gives you access to the Parental Lock page.
The button, that gives you access to the Local Time page.
The button, that gives you access to the TV System page.
2.1.1. USER PROFILE SUB-MENU
This sub-menu allows you to customize the user profile settings, you can customize:
NOTE
Once in a page, at any time:
you can use the MENU key to reverse from a menu page to the sub-menu bar;
you can easily leave with the EXIT key.
This main menu has different sub-menus that give
access to the pages where you can customize the
factory settings.
The user preferences menu always comes in view with
the User Profile sub-menu. In the menu bar the
sub menus are shown at the right side. The available
sub menus are shown as icons which become a
highlighted button after selection.
The sub-menus are accessible with:
Aspect ratio
To set the screen size of the TV.
InfoBanner time-out
To select the view time for the InfoBanner.
Dolby Digital
To tell the receiver that it is connected to a Dolby
Digital amplifier or not.
RGB-Sync
To switch the RGB-sync signal, which is required by
monitors only, to On (monitor) or Off (TV).
Backgrounds
To select the standard or a personal background
color.

This sub-menu allows you to customize the local time settings. For the correct operation of
the EPG and the timers, it is necessary to set the local time correctly. You can customize:

2.2.1. SYSTEM SETUP SUB-MENU - EASY
DVR-7000 HDD
ONLY
This sub-menu allows you to customize the system setup to match your installation. Note that
the menu page is dynamic which means that it changes with the selections you make. You
can customize:

To select the dish type you use.
Installation (fixed, motorized only)
To select the guided setup procedure for Easy
installations or Advanced installations with multiple
user defined LNBs.
LNBs

This sub-menu allows you to customize the system setup to match your installation. Note that
the menu page is dynamic which means that it changes with the selections you make. You
can customize:
System
To select the dish type you use.
Installation (fixed, DiSEqC 1.2 only)
To select the guided setup procedure for Easy
installations or Advanced installations with multiple
user defined LNBs.
LNBs
