This service letter is intended for anyone who uses an EchoStar satellite receiver with an
EchoNAv user interface. It can be used by both first-time and experienced users who want to
install, use and maintain their receiver.
This service letter is applicable for the Digital Satellite Receiver with Hard Disk:
DVR-7000 HDD;
DVR-5000 HDD.
This service letter is divided into separate sections and chapters for easy reference to the
applicable chapters of your user manual. Please keep this service letter next to your user
manual for future reference.

FAMILIARIZATION
1. ECHONAV 2.0
The software of the receiver contains the EchoNAV user interface with on-screen help, which
gives you easy control over the features of the receiver. The software contains also a large
database of pre-programmed satellites and transponders which are used for a quick
installation. For initial installation, the software guides you through the required setup menu to
allow for an easy and reliable installation setup of the receiver.
FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS
The highlights for this version are:
New menu languages added;
Greek, Italian, Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish and Swedish.
Group and Sort behaviour revised to remember the last setting;
In the channel list, the selection for Group (yellow key) and Sort (blue key) are kept until
you change the selection. The selection is made visible in the InfoBanner with icons.
Please be aware that you can get an empty list due to a previous Group or Sort selection.
Extended channel information available with i-key;
With the InfoBanner shown, you can press the i-key once or twice to access extended
channel information, if available first you view the extended program information, secondly
you can view the technical channel information (frequency, polarity, symbol rate and PIDs).
Satellite list available with satellite key;
When in the view mode, you can call up the satellite list directly with the key. In the
satellite list you can select the satellite you want to view.
User LNB(F) menu, manual input added for Local Oscillator frequency;
With the User LNB setting menu shown, you can enter every possible Low and High
frequency with the numerical keys.
Move function extended with direct channel number entry and recall option;
When in the edit menu, you can select the move option only with Group and Sort set to
none. You can move the selected channel manually or by number. After the move action
you can press the recall key to go to the location where you started the move action.
Edit options, Move, Lock and Delete are in separated per menu;
When in the edit menu, the Move, Lock and Delete option gives only access to the related
function. This is done to make numerical move and recall move actions possible.
Save changes pop-up menu added;
At several locations in the EDIT menu where you can make changes to selections, you are
asked if you want to save or undo the changes, this to allow you to experiment with the
options without changing actual selections.
Index marker functionality added for DVR mode;
- Index marker shows in the InfoBanner;
With the InfoBanner shown, you can see the set index marker(s), at the marked position,
in the progress bar of the DVR recording. The index markers are shown as vertical lines.
- Skip to next index and skip to previous index marker added;
The (previous) and the (next) key are available to jump from one index marker to
another index marker.
- One ‘Last played’ index marker added;
When you press the key during the playback of a recording, the DVR stops and
automatically adds the so called ‘Last played’ index marker. This index marker indicates
the location where you stopped to play back a recording (just like a video tape). The last
played index marker is visible in the DVR list.
Fast Forward and Rewind speed (1x) added;
Fast Forward and Rewind speed (1x) added to allow for a more precise search.

RGB-Sync on/off added;
RGB-Sync on/off added to allow for correction of the all over greenish tint that some
televisions for domestic use show.

Skip to next index and skip to previous index marker added for MP3 mode;
The (previous) and the (next) key are available to jump from one song to another
song within the selected list.
Photo album added;
The photo album gives you the possibility to download digitally available images like
photo’s, Powerpoint presentations and other images onto the hard disk. You can organize
them in a similar way as you do for your MP3 songs.
For downloading the images onto the hard drive, you need a PC with USB support and the
dedicated USB-Loader.
New MP3Loader made available with embedded BackgroundLoader and PhotoLoader;
New MP3 Loader which can download via USB the MP3 songs, the personal backgrounds
and the photo’s (or images) onto the hard disk.
Installation menu added for Set East and West Limit;
The installation menu has an extra option to directly access the Set East/West Limit menu
to allow you to change the selected limits. Best practice is:
- first to set the physical East and West limit switches on the dish (to prevent damage);
- to delete the programmed satellites that get beyond the new limits before you set the new
limit.
NOTE
After installation of the EchoNAV 2.0, you must use the latest version of the
MP3 Loader (referred to as USB Loader).
Herewith previous releases of the MP3 Loader are obsolete.

2. THE ECHONAV INSTALLATION MENU
A highlighted button shows you which (main/sub) menu is selected. The MENU key lets you
change between the main and sub menu where thekeys let you make a selection in the
selected (main/sub) menu. The OK key brings you into the related page, where you can make
a choice from the available options.
The button, that gives you access to the User Preferences menu;
The button, that gives you access to the Installation setup menu;
The button, that gives you access to the Conditional Access menu.
2.1. THE INSTALLATION SETUP MENU
The button, that gives you access to the System Setup page (for Fixed dish);
The button, that gives you access to the System Setup page (DiSEqC1.2, motorized);
The button, that gives you access to the Program Satellites page (DiSEqC1.2,
motorized);
The button, that gives you access to the User LNB Setting page;

2.1.1. USER PROFILE PAGE
NOTE
Once in a page, at any time:
you can use the MENU key to reverse from a menu page to the sub menu bar;
you can easily leave with the EXIT key.
This main menu has different sub menus that give
access to the pages where you can customize the
settings to match your personal requirements.
Note that the sub menus are dynamic which means that
they change with the selections you make.
The Installation setup menu always comes in view with
the system setup sub menu. In the menu bar the
sub menus are shown at the right side. The available
sub menus are shown as icons which become a
highlighted button after selection. The sub menus are

This menu page allows you to customize the user profile, you can customize:
2.1.2. SET EAST/WEST LIMIT
This menu page allows you to change the present selected East or West Limit. The
selections in this menu only sets the limits electronically which means that you also must
change the physical East and West limit switches on the dish itself. Be aware that
electronically selected limits are lost when you do a factory reset.
3. THE ECHONAV MODE AND SELECTION MENUS
3.1. GROUP AND SORT
Once in a list, the selection for Group (yellow key) and Sort (blue key) are kept until you
change the selection. The selection is made visible in the InfoBanner with icons.
Aspect ratio
To set the screen size of the TV.
Banner time out
To set the view time for the InfoBanner.
Dolby Digital
To tell the receiver that it is connected to a Dolby
Digital amplifier or not.
RGB Sync.
To switch the RGB sync. signal which is required by
monitors only to On (monitor) or Off (TV).
Backgrounds
To select the standard or a personal background.
NOTE
This feature is new for DVR-7000 series only.
CAUTION
On the motorized dish, set the physical East and West limit switches first. Failing to
do so might cause damage to your motorized dish installation or other properties.
East Limit;
To set the East Limit for the dish.
West Limit;
To set the West Limit for the dish.
Program Satellites;
To advance to the next menu.
NOTE
Sometimes a list seems to be empty because of the settings of the List and Sort
option. If this happens, select List - All and Sort - None.

3.2. EDIT
When in the EDIT menu, the Move, Lock and Delete option gives only access to the related
function.
3.2.1. MOVE
When in the edit menu, you can select the move option only with Group and Sort set to none.
You can move the selected channel manually or by number. After the move action you can
press the recall key to go to the location where you started the move action.

3.3. THE INFOBANNER
3.3.1. LIST ICONS
The TV InfoBanner shows the information related to the actual channel. Only the new
introduced icons are discussed.
The i-button, to indicate that there is detailed program information available;
The additional information bar, to show the additional service icons. These icons show
only if the additional service is available. The icons for the channel information are:
- the icon, to show that the All Channel list is selected, not grouped, not sorted;
- the icon, to show that the Current Sat list is selected, not grouped, not sorted;
- the icon, to show that a favorite list is selected, not grouped, not sorted;
- the icon, to show that a list is selected, grouped and/or sorted.
3.3.2. CHANNEL INFORMATION
With the InfoBanner shown, you can press the i-key once or twice to access extended
channel information, if available first you view the extended program information, secondly
you can view the technical channel information (transponder, polarity, symbol rate and PIDs).
Frequency;
to show the frequency of the transponder;
Polarity;
To show the polarity of the transponder;
Symbol rate;
to show the symbol rate of the transponder;
Video PID;
To show the video package ID of the channel;
Audio PID;
To show the audio package ID of the channel;
PCR PID;
To show the Program Clock Reference package ID
of the channel.

3.3.3. THE PHOTO INFOBANNER
The photo InfoBanner shows the information related to the actual image.
The photo information bar, to show the name of the photo;
The jog shuttle, to show the actual status of the photo viewer (previous, pause, play, next);
The progress information bar, to show the start time and duration indicator;
The i-button, to indicate that there is detailed information available;
The additional information bar, to show the additional service icons. The icons are:
- the icon, to show that the All Photo list is selected, not grouped, not sorted;
- the icon, to show that a favorite list is selected, not grouped, not sorted;
- the icon, to show that a list is selected, grouped and/or sorted;
- the icon, to show that you can move the photo (only in scale mode).
The menu bar, to show the special functions. The special functions are:
- the button, to scale the photo;
- the button, to repeat the list in a random order;
- the button, to repeat all the photos from the selected (favorite) list;
- the button, to capture an image as a personal background.
3.4. POP-UP MENUS
Some pop-up menus are used to show that the receiver is busy to execute a task. Other pop-
up menus require interaction with the user, you have to confirm or deny a earlier given
command to complete the task.
3.4.1. SATELLITE LIST
NOTE
This feature is new for DVR-7000 series only.
This pop-up menu gives you the possibility to choose
directly from the available satellites. On the remote
control unit, you can call up the satellite list directly with
the key.

4. THE INDEX MARKERS
4.1. INDEX MARKER SHOWS IN THE INFOBANNER
4.2. SKIP TO NEXT/PREVIOUS INDEX
4.3. LAST PLAYED INDEX MARKER
With the InfoBanner shown, you can see the set index
marker(s), at the marked position, in the progress bar of
the DVR recording.
The index markers are shown as vertical lines.
For the DVR mode:
The (previous) and the (next) key are available
to jump from one index marker to another index marker.
For the MP3 and photo mode (DVR-7000 only):

to jump from one song or photo to another song or
photo within the selected list.

NOTE
Unless otherwise specified; this note explains the way you can navigate through
the pages of the EchoNAV user menu.
1. Use the OK key to pull down the menu selection fields.
2. Use the  keys to scroll the selectable items.
3. Use the  keys to navigate between the left and right column of selectable
items.
4. Use the EXIT key to leave the menu and return to the view mode.
5. In a pull-down menu:
- use the OK key to confirm the selection.
- the yellow bar indicates the active selection;
- on the left, the green page indicator indicates where you are.
1. On the RCU, press the OK key.
2. Select the required mode.
3. On the RCU press the YELLOW key.
4. Read the available help text for information.
5. Select the required group option.
NOTE
The selection for Group (yellow key) and Sort (blue key) are kept until you change

detailed information, please refer to section 4).
Sometimes a list seems to be empty because of the settings of the List and Sort
option. If this happens, select List - All and Sort - None.

Note that only for the Character and Word option a
keyboard appears.

a. use the arrow keys to navigate;
b. press OK to accept the character;
c. select the button to change case (Capitals
or lower case and numbers);
d. select the button
e. on the RCU, press the OK key to confirm.

the selection. The selection is made visible in the InfoBanner with icons.
Sometimes a list seems to be empty because of the settings of the Group and Sort
option. If this happens, select Group - None and Sort - None.

3. On the RCU press the WHITE key.
4. Read the available help text for information.
5. Select the required edit option.
NOTE
Some EDIT options are not always available.
If an option is not presented, select Group - None and Sort - None.

6. Move the channel, either:
a. use the keys;
b. use the page + / - keys;
c. use the numerical keys.
7. On the RCU, press the OK key to confirm.
8. Either:
a. press the WHITE key to end the session, or;
b. select the next channel you want to move, or;
c. press the key to return to the previous
location in the list.
9. When the pop-up appears, either:
a. select Yes to save the changes, or:
b. select No to undo the changes.
CAUTION
You can only lock a channel if you have set the parental lock and the PIN-code
correctly. We recommend, in the parental lock menu, that you check if the lock
option is set correctly.
NOTE
After you have set a lock onto a channel, the installation and the EDIT menu are
automatically locked with an installation lock to prevent unauthorized access.
Now you can only access these functions if you know the correct PIN-code.
1. On the RCU, press the OK key.
2. In the Edit menu, select the LOCK option.
3. Read the available help text for information.
4. Go to the channel you want to lock.
5. On the RCU, press the OK key:
a. Note a red bullet appears behind the selection
and the cursor advances to the next channel.
b. Ifyouwanttoundoaselection(redbullet),
select again and press the OK key.

6. Either:
a. press the WHITE key to confirm the lock and
end the session, or
b. select the next channel you want to lock.
7. When the pop-up appears, either:
a. select Yes to save the changes, or:
b. select No to undo the changes.
8. You can temporarily unlock all channels:
a. On the RCU, press the MENU key;
b. the key to select the menu;
c. the OK key, to select the menu.
d. Enter the correct PIN-code as requested;
e. Set the channel lock to Off.
9. You can restore all the locks on the channels:
a. On the RCU, press the MENU key;
b. the key to select the menu;
c. the OK key, to select the menu.
d. Enter the correct PIN-code as requested;
e. Set the channel lock to On.
1. On the RCU, press the OK key.
2. In the Edit menu, select the DELETE option.
3. Read the available help text for information.
4. Go to the channel you want to delete.
5. On the RCU, press the OK key:
a. Note a red bullet appears behind the selection
and the cursor advances to the next channel.
b. If you want to undo a selection (red bullet),
select again and press the OK key.
