Beforethemonitoringprocesscanbegin,youmustinstallatleastoneAppSpeedprobeononeormorehosts.
EachprobecanmonitoruptothreevSwitches.Youcaninstallmorethanoneprobeonthesamehostto
monitoradditionalvSwitches.Theprobesettings,includingthemanagementnetwork,storagedevice,
and
monitoredvSwitches,areconfiguredaspartoftheprobeinstallationprocess.
Youcanaddandremoveprobes.See“InstallanAppSpeedProbe”onpage14and“DeleteProbes”onpage15.

memoryreservation.
Reconfigurestheprobeʹsclustersothattheprobeisnotsu bjecttotheDistributedResourceScheduler(DRS)
andHighAvailability(HA).

Youcaninstallaprobeononehostatatime,oryoucaninstallaprobeonmultiplehostsatthesametime.
Youcanalsoinstallmorethanoneprobeonthesamehost.
To install a probe
1AccesstheAppSpeeduserinterface:
aInthevSphereClient,clickHome>SolutionsandApplications
andclicktheAppSpeedicon.
bIntheVIClient,clicktheAppSpeedicononthetoolbar.
2 SelectthecheckboxesforthehostsorclustersonwhichtoinstallaprobeandclickInstallProbes.
Aprobeisinstalledoneachselectedhost,regardlessofwhetheranotherprobeisalreadyinstalledonthehost.
TheProbeInstallationwindowdisplaysaseparateentryforeachhostthatyouselect.Eachentryappears
inaseparatepane.
3 (Optional)Configuretheprobeforeachhostentry.
aTypethenameoftheprobeintheProbeNametextbox.
Ifyoudonotspecifyaname,theAppSpeedserverassignsadefaultname.
bFromtheStoragedropdownmenu,selectthestoragedevicetowhichtheprobeconnects.

SelectuptothreemonitoringvSwitches.ThevSwitchessnifftrafficontheconfigured
managementnetwork.Bydefault,thefirstthreeavailablevSwitchesareselected.
NOTEIftheAppSpeedicondoesnotappear,verifythattheAppSpeedpluginisselectedinthePlugins
menu.

Delete Probes
Ifyoudonotwanttomonitorthetrafficonaspecifichost,youcanremovetheprobesfromthathost.

Adding a License

Verifying the Installation
Youcanverifythesuccessfulinstallationanddeploymentoftheprobesbycheckingtheprobestatusinanyof
thefollowinglocations:

Iftheprobeissuccessfullyinstalledanddeployed,thestatusoftheprobeisRunning.Inaddition,ifactivetraffic
ispresentonthepartofthenetworkthattheprobeismonitoring,thetrafficthroughputisreflectedaccordingly.
NOTEThetrafficthroughputcanbe0ifthereisnotrafficonthemonitoredvSwitchesorifaproblemoccurs

notexist.
TheMonitoredSSLEndpointstableliststheendpointsforwhichvalidkeysexistinAppSpeed,
includingtherespectiveservername,whereavailable,andIPaddressandports.AppSpeedmonitors
trafficontheseendpoints.
NOTEThenumberofunmappedobjectstypicallydecreasesasAppSpeedmapstheenvironment.

To add an SSL key
1IntheSSLManagementwindow,selectthecheckboxesforthe
endpointsintheSSLPendingEndpoints
tableandclickAdd/UpdateSSLkey.
2Browsetoandopenthekeyfile.
Thekeyisassignedtotheselectedendpoints.TheendpointmovesfromtheSSLPendingEndpointstable
totheMonitoredEndpointstable.
