Brief Description of the Machine
Once assembled, the pneumatic PÖTTINGER drill machine ”AEROSEM” (with quick coupling device) is fitted on to soil finishing
tools.
The seeds from the large hopper, that has a waterproof lid, are centrally batched for the full working width and then equally
distributed to the sowing coulters. The batching is carried out via a drive wheel, the air for the transport of the seeds – via the
distributor head to the sowing coulters – generates a seed shaft driven, low noise impeller fan (hydraulic fan fitting if required).
Through the simple, central, switching from coarse grain to fine grain and through the continuously adjustable oil-bath transmission,
all desired sowing volumes of the different types of seed can be selected. The hydraulic seed rate adjustment means that even
during operation, the seed rate can be selected to suit the different ground conditions.
Shoe coulters and broad shoe coulters can be interchanged without the need for tools. Alternatively, single disc sowing coulters
can be supplied.
The coulter pressure is separate on the coulter and can be
adjusted centrally with a spindle – or hydraulically when on
the move.
The disc markers can be fitted up to the middle of the shoes,
and are hydraulically switched; this means that the electronic
tramline switching and tramline demarcation are automatically
managed.
The numerous possibilities for fittings, the simple and
convenient operation and the short down times through the
simple, fast calibration and the easy emptying of
residue make the PÖTTINGER
”TERRASEM”, in conjunction with
the PÖTTINGER soil
finishing tool, a
powerful tool to
order.

afety Instructions
When coupling and uncoupling, do not allow anyone to stand
between the tractor and the machine; also stay clear of the
tractor and machine when the external hydraulic console is in
use. Risk of injury!
Before coupling and uncoupling, set the tractors hydraulic unit
to „position control“!
Before operation, ensure that the tractor and machine are both
in safe operating condition and that the relevant guards have
been attached.
The operator is responsible for safety.
Ensure that there is sufficient space to manoeuvre (when the
hopper is full), and attach a suitable weight to the front of the
tractor.
Do not transport the machine with a full hopper!
On steep slopes (on contour lines) be aware of the centre of
gravity!
Before using the machinery and before driving it, ensure that
no-one is in the vicinity of the machinery!
Never allow anyone to climb onto or to ride on the machine (or
loading platform), and keep clear of danger zones (swivel area)!
Before leaving the tractor, fitting extra equipment or carrying
out maintenance work, lower the combination machine, turn
off the seed shaft and remove the ignition key!
Care should be taken when touching working parts that may
be hot from use!
Before turning off the seed shaft ensure,
- that there is no-one in the vicinity of the machine!
- that the RPM selected for the engine is the same as the
permissible RPM for the machine (1000 U/min)!
- that the link shaft is working with the prescribed tube
overlap and is not turning the tube guard with it!
Turn the fan equipment off immediately if the fan vibrates –
and check the fan impeller; it is dynamically balanced!
When filling the hopper with treated seed and cleaning with
compressed air, please note that seed dressing is toxic and
irritant. Wear appropriate protective clothing!
Before using the machine for the first time – and after long
downtimes – check the oil level in the transmission and that
all bearings are adequately greased. Check that all screws
are tightened, and that there is no leakage in the hydraulic
unit.

Dosing unit description
General
The dosing shafts monitor signals the driver if the dosing shaft stops
during operation (disruption to the drive).
Ensure that both sensor baskets are synchronized when running.
- when the left sensor shows a break, then the right must also.
- gap between sensor and sending container is 1-3 mm
Standard equipment
• a coarse dosing wheel (pos. 40)
• two fine dosing wheels (pos. 40a, 40b)
Optional equipment
• a coarse dosing wheel (pos. 48b)
- for coarse seeds like peas and beans
- for sowing quantities up to 250 kg/ha
• a coarse dosing wheel (pos. 48c)
- for hybrid seeds like linseed, grass, sunflowers
- for lower sowing quantities from 30 - 40 kg/ha
Adjusting seed quantity per hectare
Turning off
So-called
”Turning off
” establishes what quantity (kg) of seed per hectare
will be sown by adjusting the dosing device accordingly. Doing this
enables the dosing device on the seed drill to be adjusted exactly to the
desired seed quantity.
A more exact description of this is in the operating instructions for the
”Artemis” seed drill control found in the supplement of this operating
manual.
• However before proceeding with
”Turning off”,
the
notes on the following pages should be
observed.
As seeds vary greatly through specific weight, kernel size, kernel form and
seed dressing gear, the sowing table values are only approximations.
Therefore a trial turning off should be carried out.
Where variations to the sowing quantity occur, turn off again using an
altered drive position.
- use the accompanying seed disc as an aid.
Attention! For safety reasons, remove the crank handle
after turning off.
Note: The electronic tramline switch Multitronic II has a
"Turn off aid" function with whose support the number of
necessary turn of the turn off crank needed is calculated
and counted from the seed monitor for the selected turn
off area.
- see Multitronic II operating instructions.

FIELD OPERATION
Sowing with double row spacing
If, as an exception, sowing is to take place with half the number
of coulters (double row spacing), the flaps should be set to
the ‘non-sowing’ 2- way- turns setting - set the upper flap
lever up or down (22/1).
The gear adjustment should be set for double seed volume
kg/ha:
To calibrate the settings, take double the ‘desired seeding rate’.
Rotate the crank for calibration according to the chart.
For double or wider row spacing (e.g. for beans) only put a
small amount of seeds in!
Disc markers
Set the disc revolution point (the length varies according to
the working width and row spacing of the drill machine as well
as the tractor track width when marking rows: Fig. 23).
… at centre of tractor:
a) from coulter blades = half working width = A
b) from outside coulter = working width + row spacing = A1
2
... on tractor track, from outside coulter:
working width + row distance – tractor track width = A2
2
Example (result rounded off):
3 m working width (B = 300 cm)
12,5 cm row spacing (R = 12,5 cm)
170 cm tractor track width (S = 170 cm)
A = 150 cm (of tractor centre, from coulter blades)
A1 = B + R = 300 + 12,5 = 156 cm
2 2
A2 = B + R – S = 300 + 12,5 – 170 = 71 cm

FIELD OPERATION
The disc markers are operated with the tractor
control unit:
… at the end of a row set to ”up” – both disc markers
are lifted,
… at the start of a row set to ”lower”
- during operation, the control unit must
always be set to ”floating position”!
If the obstacles make the disc markers fold in during operation,
an unwanted metering impulse can be avoided by keeping
the disc marker vertical but not putting it into its final position.
If the disc marker is completely folded in without producing an
unwanted metering impulse, the tramline switching can be
switched to ”OFF” by pressing the tramline button twice (see
Introduction for Multitronic).
Load Limiting Device:
When operating the load limiting device use new shearing
screws:
M 10 x 35 DIN 601 4.6 (SK)
Note: Only use a screw of the quality given otherwise
damage can occur to the track marker through
overloading.
By twisting the rotary shaft (3) the disc can be set for more or
less grip according to how hard the ground is.

Hydraulic Seed Rate Adjustment
It maybe advisable to adjust to maximum seed rate
in connection with the hydraulic coulter pressure
adjustment.
To operate, switch the path valve (Fig.31) to the
appropriate setting (on the coupling).
Settings „Normal“ and „Maximum Amount“:
„Normal Amount“ – calibrate as usual; star handle
(32/1, page 10) but set as limiter behind the lever
(towards 0) – fasten tightly.
(Cylinder remains retracted.)
„Maximum Amount“ – Fully extend the cylinder, select
„Max. Amount“ by moving cylinder – at (32/2) – and
secure (32/3).
Re-calibrate.
Note: Do not clamp down the transmission select
lever!
Highest transmission setting for „Normal Amount“ =
„100“ minus required extra amount (cylinder path).
Loading Platform
When in operation fold up the lower levels (43/1).
In order to ‘calibrate’, ‘fold in’ the right platform part (43/2)
Never allow anyone to climb onto or ride on the machine (or
loading platform)!
Keep tread steps clean!
Set the machine down before filling and turn off the engine!
When filling the machine remember that dressings are irritants
and sometimes toxic! Protect yourself accordingly!
Loading Bridge
For filling of sacks from the trailer.
Attach the loading bridge to the ”AEROSEM”
Ensure safe conditions!
When filling is completed leave the loading bridge on the trailer.

starting number – e.g. for rhythms 3 and 4 set to 2.
Sensors handle the automatic switching, e.g. when changing
row markers.
For symmetrical tramline rhythms with even numbers start
at the edge of the field with half drill working width; select or
change to the corresponding turns:
Set higher flap lever down/forward (47/1).
If the fertiliser spreader is equipped with a spread limiter, begin
at the edge of the field with full drill working width and tramline.
Up to three sowing rollers may be switched off per wheel track
during tramline switching.
The seed for the tramline will be supplied to the tank by the
turns in the distributor head. The consistency of distribution
will not change.
The machine will turn off when the magnetic switch is supplied
with power; this ensures that operation may continue for the
full number of rows in the case of a power failure (flaps in the
distributor head turns may then be closed if necessary).
Adjusting to the width of the tramlines is very straightforward,
just alter the lower sowing roller hoses.

FIELD OPERATION
For asymmetrical tramlining, switching occurs
only on one single-sided wheel track during each
of two passes in opposite directions. Depending on
the turn direction chosen, the unneeded magnet on
the outer side of the turn must be deactivated by
uncoupling.
(Note: The unit is supplied with both magnet
couplings connected. For this reason the magnets
must be checked after selecting the tramlining
rhythm and drive direction!)
If no tramlines are to be made but the electronic
monitor is to remain active, select rhythm „0“.
(Adjusting the tramlining rhythm: see appendix A,
section 5.1.1)
Current operation data is stored so that operation
may continue in the correct rhythm after e.g. an
interruption.
2-way turns: at the tramline turns the upper flap lever must
be manoeuvrable between the impact hooks (48/a, b).
The lower flap lever is linked to the magnet (48/2) by a screw
(M 5 x 60) (48/1) that contains a reset spring;
Set the ‘screw length’ so that on connected tramlines the flap
is up on the outer side of the turn.
On normal turns (without tramlines) the upper flap lever should
be in the up/back position (47/2).
A maximum of 3 flaps can be moved with the propulsion
magnet..
Tramline demarcation (only in connection with tramline
switching).
For pre-emergence spraying the tramline track can be indicated
during sowing with the disc markers (Fig. 53).
Switching is handled automatically. The electromagnetic valve
is located on the front end of the machine.
Adjust the disc markers to tramline track-width.
For transport, the disc booms must be folded up and locked –
plug (Fig.54).
To make an asymmetrical tramline in off-set tracks (4S, 6S,
8S), fold up and secure the unneeded tramline marker.
